Great song. Played regularly on Retro Charts Radio, along with every other Top 40 hit from the 20th century. No ads, no presenters, no shows, no news, no weather, no frills, just the music. A six week no repeat policy! :)
Another perfect tune from '74 🙌👏
I'm a Suffolker but I love this song. Produced by George Harrison and a memory of the working class communities we have lost.
South Shields my local market town...this song was out before i was 2.... Heard it for the first time on Ken Bruce Radio show on Greatest Hits radio sitting in the carpark at Ikea in #Edinburgh ..played on a constant loop since...LOVE IT!!
I've heard this song on one of the offshore radio stations at the end of 1974. Only ONCE. It struck me right away, but I could never find it back, Thoughout the years I never heard this song back again, but the title and artist always were stored in the backside of my head.
When Internet arrived in 1999 and Napster arrived to download songs, I typed in the title in Napster in early 2001. I got about 10 results back. I almost fell litterally off my chair of surprise. I downloaded the song and heard it back after more than 26 years of searching. It was my best Internet download experience ever.
Many, many thanks for uploading.
Wow! You finally struck gold!!!
Ik heb de LP. Dit liedje sloeg er bij mij ook in.
I've just found this song after not hearing it for 48 years, It pops up in my head at least once a week. I didn't know who it was by or what the song was called, all I had was the 'I'm coming home' lyric. I've searched for two decades on and off to find it, I even started to think I imagined it. I have whistled the tune to people but nobody remembers it. I've been off work this week and thought I'd give it another go. I looked through countless 70's singles vids and started to give up but I saw a link for a 1974 TOTP show and thought just one more, it was the last song on the vid. I couldn't believe it when the chorus kicked in, at last the search is over!
know exactly what you're talking about ❤
I was 14 years old when this record came out, loved it then still love it now 😁xxx
A great song about South Shields I think all the North East Coast towns and villages, Northubria, Tyne and Wear County Durham Cleveland from Berwick to Saltburn, my little village Blackhall Colliery, born and raised here, my home and I love the place
I was born in a Tyneside flat. This song reminds me so much of the 60's & 70's in the North East. It's part of my heritage!
Love it!!
Some songs stop you in your tracks…this is one of them. Love it.
There voices blend beautifully how was this not a hit
It was a big hit in South Africa in 74. Went to number 10 in the charts there. Still love it today.
ABSOLUTELY beautiful sooooo many memories 😢Thanks Guys ✌️👌
So many happy memories of the time this record was out. Love you mum and dad and miss the hell out of you both.
Played this a lot when I was a DJ back in the 70s. Always thought it should have been a hit.
Got to number 17 in 1974 in the UK
Beautiful song produced George Harrison for his Dark Horse Record label, Rest in Peace Bill Elliott
A great record brings bk memories for sandancers, and ship yard workers, still living in costafine town 😁xx
Well said, Margaret!!
Absolutely wonderful. Great upload. Thanks!
Music.....I should say so!
RIP Bill Elliott.
My cousin Bill Elliot, such a lovely lad
A nice song-remember buying it in my local record shop.
RIP Bill you are sadly missed.
Mi primer amor.. amor de juventud.. alguna vez escucharas mi voz que te llama.. esta melodía me hace recordarte cuando en tus brazos la bailaba.. alguna vez te acordaras de mi.. Dulce y bello tema❤
I'm 55 and never heard this until a few months back great tune
55 too,and remember hearing this when I was a primary school age kid.
I am 56 and know this song from my youth. I just watched & heard it on a music channel here in
The Netherlands called 192 tv.

RIP Bill Elliot ❤️
I like it.
Superb 25 carat gold !! Quality indeed
It’s kinda odd that after 40 plus years of knowing Splinter and this album, I get to see them move
Thanks
Tremendous harmony!
what a great song....
Probably the best song to be under played on radio ever.. Shame
I was listening to a recording of an early UK commercial radio programme from 1976 and a presenter called Dave Owen played this song. It's a brilliantly written track and English song writing at its best.
The sandies national anthem, lived near there when I was a bairn.
RIP BILL ELLIOT
I love this record! I was only 16 when it first come out! 1978
Your right! I always thought it was late 70's!
I would have got it wrong on a quiz night!
Thanks for the info!
Muito top 👏👏👏👏👏👏
They have a melodic feel similar to Stealers Wheel.
Me lembro que quando saiu o álbum fui um dos primeiros a comprar ainda mais que na época fiquei sabendo que tinha um empurrãozinho do ex Beatles George
Linda!! Saudades dos bons tempos!!
Brilliant, and |I'm a prog fan.
Just a classic
Great song sung double denim blue
Melodies and lyrics this good are no longer written because of short-term commercial constraints.
_Legends. Gone too soon…_
I just posted the 45 yesterday
The first band signed to George Harrisons Dark horse label ?
So this is the early 70s. What do most people think of from that time?
Fog on the Tyne, Slade, Gary Glitter, Elton John, Suzi Quatro, Rod Stewart. And this gets forgotten?Never on the radio, never on the TV shows,....
hi do you have the performance of zigzag doing the bump ,it was on top pop in 1975 i think ,many thanks
George finally got a hit as a producer after no joy flogging his nuts off with Jackie lomax
SV
RIP Bill Elliott.
