Hi Simon, Ryan here golf operations manager at Trefloyne. We all loved this video and many thanks for the kind comments on the course. All the staff and myself work hard in the summer to hand water all greens as we have no irrigation and its nice to see it pay off year on year! We would love to have you back with us soon!
Hello Ryan, I first played there about 20 years ago on a summer holiday. I seem to remember a lot of staked trees and it being fairly open. I think the course layout is wonderful, a great mix of holes, different challenges. I could see just how hard the guys had worked, it was in great shape. Greens were really good. It was such a harsh year and the course didn't suffer from it. That's hard work. Going to Dorset this summer for our holiday but we will be back to Tenby again. I've been going since I was in a carry cot so I guess it's in my blood! Thanks.
It always makes me smile when I get a RUclips notification that you’ve published a video. Cuppa tea, slice of toast and watching your video. Great start to my day
The course was just about wide enough to accommodate me. Plus the back 9 meant I could put that driver away for a while! Loved that stroke 1 hitting iron and iron.
The turf wasn't bad here at all. All courses have suffered this summer, I was surprised it was so green compared to Tenby only a mile and a quarter away. Very playable, espacially from the forward tees. Strange thing is there was a Seniors oPen on in the morning, I could of played that instead but then there would be no video.
When I looked at the green David I thought go left of the flag and it will roll down. It stuck! Nice to be tested though and have to dribble it down. I think this year most courses have raised the cutting height to cope with the sun. I doubt I would do so well in an ordinary year. I bet they are quick normally.
£30, that's a steal!!! What a lovely little course! Well played yet again - particularly that par, with the penalty shot! Just the sort of golf that you want to play on your hols!!! As for the driver....!!!! But, at the last, what a great drive. Had you had more luck on the greens too, well, level par gross would have been on the cards! All that said, Judith made an interesting observation during the vlog. She said "I like watching Simon, he's a normal golfer" which set me thinking as to why she said that? It's because we can, absolutely, relate to you as you hit the ball similar distances to a "normal" amateur golfer! Like us, you 3-putt in front of the clubhouse(!!!). We hit the ball into the trees, into the rough, into hazards, just like you do! We rarely get up on a par-5 in two (2020, with a very strong following wind was the last time!!!). And our shirts have visited the fridge more times than the washing machine as well (the secret is always to buy a size that you can grow into, especially after you retire!!!!). As for "Golf Mates", who are they????? Watched once, neither understood or liked, haven't watched again!!!!
£30 is a steal. Such a great course for so little money. An hour in front of me was a Senior Open and I was tempted to enter. Then the rain and thunder came as I was on the range. I was stuck there for a while. I do hit ordinary distances, I don't have lag or shaft lean, my irons now go a little shorter than they did in my prime but I've gained skill over the years. Better timing anyway. Golf mates. Haven't wathced him since early 2020. Known for having a perfect lie in the rough every time. Likes a little cheat off camera. Thanks, for taking us around another course, the stroke index one was indicative of how difficult it must be to play a course that you don't play regularly, great par . Those greens looked like, you could take them home in your pocket
The greens were excellent. Would take a ball, freindly speed without being slow and half a dozen that were awkward from the wrong side. I would be a member there and be very happy.
Awesome vlog as always. Looks like a nice couple of courses around Tenby. In my news I beat my best score of +10 (79) set earlier this year by one shot +9 (78) today at the forest of dean, I wasn't expecting this at the start of the round as I started with a triple off the first. I knew I had a chance at 9 because I was only 4 over and kept it quite steady in the back 9. Some of that is down to watching how you play golf in a more controlled manner. So thank you.
Woohoo! Nothing like beating your best score. Now we have had some rain the course will play easier for us. I played this morning and being able to get the wedge into the ground was great. Plus knowing your ball will stop. I hope you have a great autumn Gary. You cna take advantage of the better conditions. I think I prefer that course over Tenby, it just suits the eye better with trees. The holes are defined, takes away a bit of the guesswork.
It looked like you had the course to yourself, Simon. No such luck here in Arizona, between the overseeding closing courses temporarily and expatriate snowbirds escaping winter in the north, it's hurry up and wait on every hole. Nice to see that, despite not having your A game, you were still able to score.
There was a Seniors Open that morning, I could of played in it but I would not of matched the winning score(s)! These seniors are bandits! It meant the course was empty the rest of the day, apart from a greenkeeper I never saw another soul. I think I shot my handicap which means I had a good day out. No complaints, course in good shape, ball running.
I thought that 1st putt was going in. So many lip outs out there, ughh. Solid play tee to green Simon. I know I would have found all those dead areas were balls go to die. Great looking course. Love that long par 5 on that last hole. Nice 💣 off the tee and fairway there! Great round!
I few putts got away. A few bad shots ended up being lucky. On that 18th I think I enjoyed the 3wood better than the drive and then a SW to pin high when I was on the limit for that club. Favourite holes were the par 3 across the valley to a green with a big step in it. That would have been hard with the flag at the back. Stroke 1 where you could only hit an iron off the tee and that 18th. Open the shoulders and give it large!
@@ChiliDippaGolf I got on that tee and didn't remember it all. It was 20 years ago and i'm getting old now..........plus the trees have grown up. I would happily be a member if I lived in the area.
I get told about it David. I'm sat in the clubhouse and people come up to me and show me video on their phones. It's quite funny! Last week I got told he's playing off 9 now. It is a nice course. @@davidwalters313 He doesn't pay for anything. You give him free green fees for everyone and free golf carts or he doesn't come to your course. I remember a video back in winter 2018/19 and he is playing with OMP. OMP hits his tee shot on the par 3 13th. Short of the green. They are stood by the ball yacking then it cuts to the next clip and the ball has moved 6 feet. He got called out, took the video down. It went back up 2 hours later with the cheat bit removed. Another video he chipped on 5 feet past the hole. The ball finished 1 inch from an old hole. Cut to the putting and he has 3 feet and the old hole is 2 feet behind him! @@thehairygolfer yes. Its amazing why people do. And his followers are very partisan - any criticism and they are on you like a ton of bricks. Its very strange really
@@davidwalters313 They are the football crowd. Loud, brash, can't leave the swearing out on the course and get louder and louder on a saturday afternoon as they drink the beer. Then they drive home with 5 pints on board and everyone heaves a sigh of relief when they have gone. I wouldn't want them to watch me.
A thoroughly enjoyable watch and listen Simon. Like you said, the course is in great shape considering the lack of rain. Your game is of a standard that many will envy despite your not being that chuffed with it currently. I've just started to get back in to the game again and have to temper my expectations and build my game back up 👍😊
Paul, thankyou. It was just a little untidy. You know you can feel when you're not using the middle but getting away with it a bit. The course was wide enough for me. It's surprising how much confidence plays a part. I've had a low the past dew weeks and am now getting back to work to build mine up. Sadly or fortunately I have video evidence! Cheers
@@PaulOutdoors I prepare for a video like it's the club championship. I will up my practice a bit. Off the top of my head I think you get to see 1 out of every 5 rounds I play. Of course with the camera I'm so wrapped up in that I have no idea of my score. It's not like having a card in your hand on a sunday morning thinking you need to par the next 4 holes to be out in handicap. I mention this in a later video. It is liberating in a way. It's like when I'm on the 10th I'm thinking about what I might say in voice over rather than worrying about the 12th. It's funny how in real life our mind gets ahead of the play. I haven't putted out but I'm thinking about the poor shot I hit last week on a hole I don't get to tee off on for another 20 minutes. Why do we sabatage ourselves?
I have to agree. I dropped mutilple strokes when i got my driver fit and learned how to hit it. My biggest numbers on course start with a bad drive then a drop so far from the green i need 2 more shots to get there.
I was motivated to try and improve my driving and avoid the big numbers. I still get in trouble from time to time but I find myself playing a number rounds with a ball before I finally lose it. Getting straightened out with a few lessons is really worth it. It was the key element to dropping my scores.
It's rare that everything works. I canned a long one somewhere, pure luck, and had a good chip or two. No complaints from me. Holed enough 4 footers, very had with the day out.
Well, it's been spotted on someone elses channel and I was asked to go look at a video and give my opinion. It was funny. Never seen the ball sat up so much!

When he came down here to play Painswick and he hit a monster pull off the 8th and then found it at the side of the fairway. My phone was ringing off the hook as everyone knew that was a cheat too. I was shown that video 3 times in the clubhouse by different people!! 8th is far too narrow to accept even a slight pull off the tee. I just ask them why they keep watching it?
@@thehairygolfer yes. Its amazing why people do. And his followers are very partisan - any criticism and they are on you like a ton of bricks. Its very strange really
@@davidwalters313 They are the football crowd. Loud, brash, can't leave the swearing out on the course and get louder and louder on a saturday afternoon as they drink the beer. The golf clubs only tolerate them because the beer sales are high. But they love watching a pair of people dicking around on the course.
Then they drive home with 5 pints on board and everyone heaves a sigh of relief when they have gone.
I wouldn't want them to watch me.
Great vlog! Love your commentary ☺️
Thankyou. Glad you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed the course.
Cheers
@@thehairygolfer I love the honesty of your videos Simon. You show the reality of golf for us meer mortals 👍😊
Can't want till you start converting the birdie chances
It's rare that everything works. I canned a long one somewhere, pure luck, and had a good chip or two. No complaints from me. Holed enough 4 footers, very had with the day out.
I like the good honest golf without good lies in the rough as you say
Well, it's been spotted on someone elses channel and I was asked to go look at a video and give my opinion. It was funny. Never seen the ball sat up so much!
@@thehairygolfer yes I know who you mean it's a bloody joke mine never sit up like that, but there only making themselves look like cheats which is what they are doing I unsubscribed from that channel a while ago now
@@arthurrytus7318 I left them back in 2020. I couldn't watch it anymore. Disappeared up his own arse. I saw too much cheating going on. Called him out on one cheat and he took the video down and edited out the bad bit and put it back up.
Agree this would be a nice course to be a member of. Attractive and playable.
Golf Mates lie! 🤣 Don’t watch them so wouldn’t know.
Poeple come up to me and tell me. Did you see the latest Rick Sheils? Did you watch Mark Crossfield 2 weeks ago? Have you seen that cheating c----? His handicap is now 9.
It's tiring Neil hearing about other people. Now if anybody wanted to talk Golf Sidekick I could go on for hours.
Nice course, right amount of difficult greens, a few tighter holes, some wide ones. A great mix. I don't remember much about my first visit 20 years ago but it has matured rather well.
Your driver and mine must know each other
Close cousins! I still haven't fixed the problem, been too busy to get to the range sadly.
Hi Simon, would it be possible to have a game with you around Lillybrooke? My friend used to be a member there but he's sinse left.
Let me know and we will sort out a time if possible.
That would be fine. Still got some weekend competitions running. Then the course is closed for an amatuer championship. No time after work at the moment.
It looks like we might be getting monday the 19th off for the Queen. I've just booked a 1:54pm tee time just in case. If not Saturday the 8th of october is possible.
@@thehairygolfer 8th October is good for me, I'm away from the 19th September to 1st October (Turkey) so I will hopefully be free for the 8th, it nkght be a bit last minute but I'll see if you are free and I'll make my way up from Swindon and meet you there. 👌
@@MadDogsandEnglishman I've just forgotten I can't book guests in before 1pm on a weekend. B team is playing so first tee time that day will be around 2:30pm
@@thehairygolfer hi Simon, I will get back to you closer to the time because I may have work coming which I have to cover, so I hope that I'm free for a game with yourself at lillybrook, really looking forward to having a game and to meeting yourself.
@@MadDogsandEnglishman I'm probably going to have a couple of days off in October. I ahve to book days off more than a week in advance so will be watching the weather forecast and hoping for the best.
Feet are aiming spot on, shoulders to the left, just an observation?
You're spot on Steve. And a few videos after this it's even worse! My ball position has crept forward a bit and that's ruined me. Didn't I just do a video about set up???????
I'm fixing it now.
I played last sunday and hit 5 fairways and still shot my handicap of 5. So it's not all bad. Just as annoying as hell!
@@thehairygolfer You are on the path to greatness, i have a long way to go, but that is the fun part, getting better brings joy.
@@SteveSmith-zz4ih I'm on the path to old age! I'm desperately clinging onto my handicap as best I can! But seriously from a score point of view I've had a very consistent year, It feels like 2011-2013. Perhaps I'm getting too old to hit the ball enough to lose it......................?
That looked a tough course Simon, I hated sloping fairways. What happened with your car issue. Ron
It was quite wide Ron. A few tight holes and a few awkward greens but overall easier than Lilleybrook.
Car was fixed a day before we came home from holiday and the warrenty covered it thank goodness. I enjoyed yesterday mornings video but didn't have anything sensible to say (not that that problem has stopped me before.......)
@@thehairygolfer The warranty covering the repair must have been a relief. I've never played Lilleybrook, - thank goodness. Keep swinging. Ron
@@ParkinsonsWalks Huge relief Ron. It would have made a dent in our christmas savings for sure. I might only have had one serving of christmas pudding!
Lilleybrook is for mountain goats, I'm sure one day I will look at that hill and think sod it!
That first drive looks like to tried to knock the crap out of it!! Does it happen to you as well? I know when I go after it does fade out to the right. Course looks nice and for not hitting it good off the tee you still played fairly decent!!🏌♀😀
I was trying to get my right side through properly. It's not been working very well recently. It's not wild but it's not where I want it to go. The golf course was fairly forgiving to a bad one and the other shots are still there. Hitting my 4 iron really well at the moment. Chipping and putting still sound. I'm just a little off with the long clubs.
Nice ocurse, would ahppily be a member there.
