There is another New Yorker trick that goes very quick--called the Time Step Surprise New Yorkers With Kicks.....
Chasse LRL (Lady RLR), and then kick RF through in New York Position (Lady LF)....
Then, Chasse RLR (Lady LRL), and then kick LF through in New York Position (Lady RF)
Repeat ad lib. (Note - Open Facing Position in the chasses, but underturn the New York in the kick-throughs!) I made this move up because I experienced the Derby Kicks in Lindy Hop/East Coast Swing, which has nearly the same physical movements.
Count: 2 and 3 (and) 4 and 1 (and).
All of these New York tricks are cool enough. But don't use them in a closed syllabus dancesport heat in cha-cha (especially Newcomer)--tricks like that in newcomer closed syllabus are forbidden and you will get penalized. Use them in open-style heats, however, without fear of being marked down.
Overturned New Yorkers. New York Checks, Butterflies, Syncopated New Yorkers, New Yorkers in R or L Shadow Position, New Yorkers With a Ronde-Chasse Ending. I had seen all that! I tried a few of these New York tricks in Cha-Cha........
