I recently bought an older model car to travel to work in, I could only pick up a radio station that played classical music and so the journey began this week listening to this music. I am falling in love with ancient music 🥰
I heard this several times before realizing the perfection of these titles. Not a universal perfection which would impose itself on everything else, no, but a small personal perfection, a small inner cosmos which means that if you change a single note, cut one idea from the whole, the songs would be found irremediably impoverished, because everything is in its right place. The right notes and ideas come at the right time. Nothing are missing and nothing are superfluous !

Totally agree, but I still enjoy the recording with John Holloway, and have great fondness for the pioneering recording by the sweet- but very large-toned Susanne Lautenbacher.

The method of development of these works is a sort of continuous variation in slow, fast, slow, fast,etc. style. Quite common for the period they were written.
I always wonder why people leave the ''von'' out? It is an intregal part of the name. If ones name is McNamara, one does not leave the Mc out is it. Namara?? Heinrich Ignatz Franz von Biber...........
You are so right! Same as with Beethoven, his name is Van Beethoven (not even Von, as you would expect from someone being born in Germany), and I don't know why people leave this out.

Biber himself was devout. There weren't many atheists in those days. Hobbes might have been one, but he kept quiet about it. Why? If the church was so powerful, how did it get powerful? Because people believed.
I have listened to this countless times...as soon as I hear the first note, my spirit is lifted to a higher place.

These sonatas for violin in scordatura are for sure the masterwork of Heinrich von Biber. The virtuosity of Reinhard GOEBEL is very pure.

Biber was one of the masters of music with a sensibility both Baroque and modern. He was a musical genius. His ancestor Justin not so much.
