It seems like Frank is almost physically somewhere else, while the notes he play becomes epic! This solo is giant! Not only great, not only beautiful! He became legendary 🔥 On stage there was Terry Bozzio on drums/ vocals/ percussions Roy Estrada: Guest( gas mask/ vocals) Phil Kaufman: human trombone Thomas Norgegg : some Magic tricks Adrian Belew:guitar/vocals Ed Man: drums/ percussions Patrick O' Hearn: bass/ saxophone/trombone/ vocals Peter Wolf: keyboards Tommy Mars: keyboards you have already seen this Band and some performances of this evening, City of Tiny Lites,Punky's whips... Thank you!!! The guitarists, or rather the artists that you cited were made of the same passion for music and have never compromised, which makes them great and misunderstood...because it is not "normal"down here!!
I started listening to Frank as a young teenager! I hated the commercial bubble gum music on the radio stations! Mostly A.M., but thank God there was F.M., available! People thought I was crazy to listen to Frank, but I stood my ground and expanded my musical tastes while the bubble gum people’s teeth rotted! I was truly saved by Franks truths!!😊😊😊❤❤
This is Frank playing his smoking hot version of Black Napkins, but the version from 1976 (while Lady Bianca was in the band) was much longer and more elaborate. It started with the bionic vocals of Bianca, a violin solo by Eddie Jobson followed by a solo by Ray White and then the searing solo by Frank. Frank's solo started off slow and gradually built up to the smoking playing that he's capable of, all the while Bozzio's drumming following right along, getting more intense along with Frank's playing. This shorter version is more palatable for the fan who wants to get right into the searing playing, and is great, but the longer (18 min) version is a greater overall Black Napkins.
Frank plays the Cop toy car right before Bozzio's drum solo. You must experience baby snakes movie. It's Frank at his all time peak stardom prime level.
Love your comments about Rory Gallagher, Pete Green and Zappa. You're right all massively under rated guitarists. I love Zappa's approach to guitar playing and the fact that he improvised all his solos. I've heard many comments about Zappa's guitar playing being sloppy, but I don't think they understand his approach.
Great review. Being a Zappa fan since the early 70's (Fuck, how did I get so old?), it's my impression he is much more highly regarded now than back then. Many "Rock critics" in those days had an active hatred, or at least distaste for the guy. And it went both ways. He didn't do himself any favors in criticizing the critics, but that was Frank. He was uncompromising in his vision for his music, and he regarded most rock n roll writers as mostly uncreative, failed wannabes, which is not inaccurate.
Playing the cop car toy reminds me of yesss here i go again crazy me but its like when Soundgarden would play the See and Say toy at the beginning of their concert, The pig goes oink! The cow goes moooo! Ok, got that out! Beautiful guitar tone i love when Frank Freakin Zappa plays his guitar 🎸🔥 Incredible! Awesome reaction Rory 😁 Your awesome!! Thank You Dirk for awesome request 😊💓🤘✌️Rory Gallagher is an awesome guitarist and Oasis are awesome too!! Mike Freakin McCready ( Pearl Jam) is terribly UNDERRATED!! Im with you on that Rory! 😊💓🤘✌️
Frank's son, Dweezil, called the way his father did his solos: The chicken Vs the spider, his right hand picking at the notes and his left hand walking like a spider on the guitar's neck...
@@lepetitoiseau Hi little bird. Very slight correction to your description of Frank's playing. One word. Instead of vs., it's "and" I don't mean to sound nitpicky, but they're not "fighting" each other. Left hand is acting like a spider crawling up and down the fretboard while the chicken is just pecking away at the strings. It's like when people describe the Stevie's Spanking video as "vs." or "duel." It's neither. A duet is a better description. Not battling each other. They compliment each other. As always, have a great day.
@@Royale_with_Cheeze You are right, the "vs" is a bad expression in this case, obviously the left hand does not play against the right hand, but they complement each other my wording was clumsy, but English is not my language (it is not an excuse).I repeated Dweezil's expression without really paying attention to it. Don't worry, as long as it remains an exchange, a dialogue it's fine, but I have known arrogant lesson-givers...This is not your case at all!! Maybe I should stop commenting... Zappa was a true improvisor. Somewhat of a rarity in the rock world.

Never pay attention to a “rolling stone” all time list. They put “St Vincent” over Zappa and many other legends.
More attention to Frank rather than the dog next time please.
