I didn't understand the difference between 2D Art and Drawing until my art teacher explained it to me either. But they're not testing the same skills. Drawing is what it's called, drawing. They're looking for sophisticated mark making, and realistic artwork would fit a Drawing portfolio more than a 2D one. For 2D, they're looking for more graphical things, and you can even do photography for a 2D Art portfolio. If you prefer stuff like graphic design over realistic portraits, then you would pick 2D Art over Drawing. So I feel getting rid of Drawing would put students who prefer the kind of portfolio it asks for at a disadvantage having to pick 2D Art or no AP Art course at all.
Other than that, you made great points. Good video!

@@Shaia_TeamLCE Thanks for informing us! Yeah, I do not know too much about the AP Art classes, but from first impression, they looked pretty similar. Do you believe it is better for both of them to remain as separare classes, should one of them be removed, or should there be a new AP class that's a balanced share of skills from each?

    • @Shaia_TeamLCE

@@Mr.AP5 Of course! Yes, I do think that it's better that they stay as separate classes. AP 2D art would be better for people going into fields like graphic design, photography, etc. AP Drawing cultivates the skills needed for someone to become something like a professional painter or a fine artist!

AP Latin mirrors real college courses which all AP classes should do. A real college Latin class is heavily based in translation and that is what AP Latin studies. The Aeneid and Caesar's Gallic Wars both are interesting parts of Roman history and culture. I believe the main purpose of becoming proficient at translation is to be able to decide for yourself what ancient texts may have been truly saying. Texts can have meaning lost in translation but being able to have a good understanding of Latin allows for a more meaningful interpretation of ancient texts. This may not be a practical use but being a proficient student in AP Latin prepares you for the practical uses as well. To succeed in AP Latin you need a very good understanding of vocabulary and seeing that a lot of words in many languages come from Latin you would understand them.

Strongly disagree. Physics 1 is generally for people with no prior Physics experience and/or no Calc experience. Physics C is also 2 AP’s because traditionally the 2 AP’s are equivalent to a year long introductory college course. However, it’s so difficult and fast-paced that many people just do the first one (Mechanics) in a year, so they divide it into 2 to allow that (which is common), and keep the 2nd one for those doing a full Physics course. Physics 2, however, is pointless. Also note that Physics 1 is one of the most popular AP’s and 140k people take it every year

      THANK YOU
I am so tired of these "elitist" haters talking about some "Precalc is so easy" "Precalc is not a college-level course" DOES THE COURSE NOT FILL IN 6 CREDIT HOURS? It, theoretically, gives more credits than 3/4ths of all APs!!!! It's WAY more useful than 1/2 of all these other Advanced Placement offerings!!!!
Unit 1 is quite literally the entire curriculum of College Algebra. Units 2 and 3 make up the entire curriculum of College Precalc. Which, by the way, are 100-level College Courses, just like your amazing AP Chem or AP CompSci. It has been around for 2 years, but this course isn't some liberal arts course where if the topics align, there wouldn't be issue giving credits.
Also there's the fact that Community and State Us (and even top universities like GT) are afraid of giving Precalc credits because there is so much data that shows that if you have taken Calc in highschool, but you don't have a good Precalc foundation, you are more likely to fail Calculus than if you had a very strong precalc foundation. They would rather students test to ensure their knowledge, especially when different schools have different standards of what is Precalc. AP Precalc fixes this, it standardizes the Precalc system and offers its own test to ensure that students aren't walking in universities with partial knowledge of the basics.
Many TOP schools, like my own, don't offer Precalc, but you can't just ignore the fact that the course wasn't made for elitist cocky students who aim for T25s. It was made for low-income students who aren't sure what they want to major in, or that unsure student who likes math, who wants to take a AP course for fun. For those elite students, it's made as a structured stepping stone, with a consistent system that AP Calc AB/BC teachers can take into account when organizing their Calculus course. This is why many schools are requiring it.
Many highschools also don't offer Calc, like mine had. Many don't even finish highschool taking Precalculus. I took AP Precalc my senior year because it was the most rigorous math course made avaliable for me. I finished with a 4. 0 regrets.

  • @acartoonfan
    @acartoonfan 2 месяца назад +12

    Okay for my opinion:
    1. AP Pre-Calculus was the first AP class I took and I feel as if they could just make the AP exam harder. And since normally people take Pre-Calculus in their senior year and we would only need 3 years worth of Math in high school (at least for us), high school seniors could have a chance at taking an AP math class since subjects can be bias since Math is kind of the only class where you would have to take different levels of in high school (an a little bit of English) but in science there is Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and you can take each class at any point in high school same thing with history (World, Euro, US) unlike Math where there is Algebra 1, then Geometry, then Algebra II, then Pre-Calc, then Calc+. I guess what I am trying to say is that the order in which you take the classes matter for a math class and not any other class. And for me the class itself wasn’t as easy as the exam was.
    2. AP African American History they can change it to AP African History in general(Then again I would be surprised how much the curriculum knows or is willing to teach about African History). I mean they are willing to do AP Euro (I mean the US was created by Europeans). I think it would be really nice for African Americans to learn about themselves and where they came from since America has kept them from this for a while now, the same thing can happen with a class called AP Asian, or something like that. It would be a great way to learn more in-depth material on other ethnic groups (besides AP World)
    3. AP Latin was the formal universal language and I think Latin overall is a hard language to learn but it has great potential to show off skills since learning Latin is worth a lot. I am a Latin III student and it’s really hard to actually learn Latin vs getting a good grade in my class since the bar is set very low, it’s kind of like the opposite of AP Pre-Calc, getting a good grade is a lot harder than the exam was in my class.
    4. AP Spanish Literature and AP Spanish Language I think should be combined into one class since it’s not quite the universal language, but I feel like Spanish isn’t as hard to learn as some of other languages from native English speakers.
    5. AP Drawings. I think they can merge it with a different art class, I don’t see why they would have it into 2 art classes.
These are just some of my opinions! :))

As others have pointed out, Spanish Lit is extremely difficult compared to Spanish Language. You can go into the Spanish Language exam as a native speaker and realistically get a 4 or 5.
I've known many native level speakers fail the Spanish Lit exam. You have to understand literary and rhetorical devices, read old Spanish novels, plays, essays, and poems, and memorize each and every author and the historical context around each one. It was one of my favorite tests I ever took, but most just interested in the language wouldn't pass.

  • @royceharline6813

There are states (like Texas) that require public universities to accept all scores of 3 and above. There are also many non-STEM students that need a math credit. In this case, AP Precal may offer a realistic choice to fulfill a math credit without having to take calculus in high school.
Your AP classes don't shorten your college career by much and often won't fulfill major specific courses. As an engineer, only 1 major specific class was fulfilled by my 4 in Physics C. The rest of my 14 AP tests I passed went toward elective credits and generals, so I was able to take less classes each semester and still graduate on time.

Coming from a Latin student: The thing about AP Latin is that it's another AP language course and it accurately resembles a real college Latin course. The idea that AP Latin should be discontinued or changed because it doesn't have widely applicable uses is no more valid than saying AP Music Theory (for example) should be discontinued-- yes, their content is not very useful for day-to-day applications or applicable to college in most senses, they're not meant to teach you the most common applications of their subject. They're meant to emulate a college course in the subject and provide an academic study of it. AP Latin also functions as a high-level language course just like AP Spanish or AP French, so most students taking AP Latin already know the practical uses of Latin from previous years' study. AP language courses are not introductions to the language-- every one of them assumes you have studied the language for no less than two years, so nobody is able to just choose, on a whim, to take AP Spanish instead of AP Latin as an elective one year or something. AP Latin is an introductory course in Latin literature and academics surrounding it. As for the point that time in AP Latin could be better spent on a more applicable course such as AP Spanish or AP Chinese, while that could be true, I can't imagine any high school student who is eligible for AP Latin choosing to switch to a Chinese course of study-- there would be no point in it. And while it may be "smarter," as you put it, to study a modern language, that's more of a comment on language education in general, not AP courses, and is immaterial.
Sorry if this rant is completely unstructured and incoherent, it's past midnight and I'm not taking the effort to edit this 😭

My district basically decides your math class path at the end of 5th grade, and it naturally crosses AP Calculus AB. If you pass the test you do pre-algebra in 6th which sets you up for Algebra 1 in 7th, Geometry in 8th, Honors Algebra II in 9th, Honors Precalculus in 10th, AP Calculus AB in 11th, and AP Calculus BC in 12th. In this case, I don’t know why you’d skip AB

Yes it’s not very complex, but it does two things
      1. It provides an overview of important information that most people should have a background in (culture, population rates, industry, farming, political landscape etc.)
      2. It’s fairly easy in AP standards, so it provides first time AP class takers with a smooth introduction into what AP classes are like

In my opinion AP drawing is actually much harder to pass than AP 2D art and a lot of people at my school take 2D and then Drawing, since AP 2D is broad about designs and graphics than the fundamental drawing skills explored in AP Drawing. Also a pretty important distinction to be made is that AP 2D art is a pretty broad term, photography, collage, painting, and drawing fall under that umbrella. Drawing would be a closer look at one aspect of this, same as having an AP 3D art, it's also art, just one area of it, since art is not just this one general thing, there's so many forms even if one may seem more profitable to study for versatility. It's like how AP World History contains aspects of AP European history yet AP European history goes further into the specifics since the class is about one area. AP Drawing focuses more on your mark making and techniques you used to get to your finished product, instead of how good it looks. I feel like they really should stay separate classes, it's not like the class is eating up any extra resources, many are taught during the same class period since the AP arts are self study (meaning we pick a central topic to make pieces about the entire year, and then submit them to college board so they can study how we have "grown" throughout the year and challenged ourselves). I am taking 2D and am planning on taking Drawing next year, they are not as similar as they appear on paper, a lot of my work is trying out different mediums and playing around with a theme, where when I look at AP drawing students their work seems to be more central on just one thing, like for example, using pen drawings to illustrate light, which seems counterintuitive, since AP 2D has so much variety, yet it is arguably pretty useful to hone a specific skill throughout a year. However, if you only have the chance to take one of these classes, it would depend on what career path you're going for, AP 2D would be better for people who want to go into photography or just want a casual art class for the credits and AP Drawing would be better for those who want to become painters or artists (Which actually does fall under mark making), or look at a specific drawing skill and hone it, I'd say even comic artists could benefit from Drawing, since techniques and details go a long way into developing your own style. If I had to choose I would pick drawing, I feel like that class is a more centralized look on drawing as it is.

I don't think AP Calculus AB shouldn't exist for the reason of BC existing, I do think it is due an entire change in curriculum and a slight change in the name, with it lining up with college where APCalc AB is AP Calc 1 with Calc 1 content and AP Calc 2 with Calc 2, that may be a challenge since most students who choose AP Precalculus their Junior Year will either end up with AP Calc AB, BC, or neither, as more probably options.

I took Spanish Literature. It was useless for my degree, but I took it because I am from Spain and moved to the US as a kid and didn't really get a chance to study much literature in Spanish. Since AP is mostly an American thing, it wouldn't make sense to have Chinese Literature but not Spanish because there are so many more Spanish speakers in the US than Chinese. At the school I went it was mainly that if you spoke Spanish already you'd take Literature, but if you didn't you'd take Language. Language would have been too easy for Spanish speakers. Also, I feel like most of the Mexican-Americans in my class needed it because in the US they are given false ideas about what it means to be Hispanic, and arguably I'd say I knew more of actual Mexican culture as a Spaniard than some of the Mexican Americans who would supposedly be more familiar with the culture than me.
