Interesting fact: In Ukraine when we learn English at school, we already learn cursive writing, because even in ukrainian we write only this way. So, when I learned that SOME people in America write in block letters and do not know how to write in cursive, I was surprised😯
Here in Chile it's more a generational thing... My parents being really old taught me to write in cursive while my class mates at school, being raised by average age parents between 20 - 40 y/o they all write in block
here in brazil is the same thing, first (3/6 years old) we learn writing with block letters with and then with 7 years old we start writing with the cursive, which is the only one we usually use
It is a pity that calligraphy is not taught to children in elementary school today. It is very important to develop fine muscle motor skills. This skill develops habits of being well-organized and accurate. And these virtues significantly affect our entire subsequent life. 
Practice makes man perfect. I already know this hand writing when I'm in 3rd grade because my father made me do this and then after few years now it's like computer font. And I can write it so fast. So yeah anly practice makes man perfect, I know it is hard, it's boring and time wasting. But once you believe in yourself you can achieve anything. So now I'm good. Cursive is beautiful. I learned it in 4th grade a public school when no one really cared. I moved to a private Catholic school in middle school and they make us write cursive. Suddenly, I remembered everything I learned about cursive writing and I write well now. I don’t even have to think about writing it, it’s natural for me.

In America, we barely teach handwriting, much less cursive handwriting. I've written out work orders in cursive and had the customer ask what it said because they couldn't read cursive.
I'm sorry, I only have 2 hours to turn in a 5 page essay complete with the rough draft attached so the professor can see my mistakes and how I corrected them. Good luck reading it.
That's how we started to practice writing in grade school. As Kids, we never understood why our Teacher keep on drilling us for an hour daily. Later, I did the same to my child.
My dad wrote like this, he once wrote an application for a job for my mum in a sweet shop,she went for an interview and the person interviewing her asked her why she wanted a job in a sweet shop when she had such beautiful handwriting, of course she owned up and said her husband had wrote it, was he a white collar worker, no mum said he's the health and safety supervisor in the railway yard, what a pity with a hand like that he should be where it would be appreciated he said , my dad taught me how to write properly like him, but alas I copied the backhand style and it stuck with me.
I will never forget the Calligraphy course I took back during my college days back in the 80s. I just might pick up the pen again just for the fun of it! Thank you Mister for the inspiration!

I always kept writing cursive from the beginning. But now during my 11th, 12th class, I see every writes simply (except for me) and when I also try to write simply it looks awkward. 😟 Dunno whether it would cause me trouble in upcoming days( Varsity) or not. 😟
The only reason is that😅😆 They have not studied anything so they writing slowly and neatly to get atleast passing marks whereas those who have studied write paras so they have bad handwriting
