Agreed, even though David doesn't do alot of "fast and furious", it's an emotional style that the brain can process differently. The "trick" David uses is, instead of rapidly playing steps up the guitar neck he uses 2, 3 and 4 semi-tone bends (4 is really hard to do) but then like a true master David slips in an occasional 5 semi-tone bend and somehow seems to avoid breaking strings or shredding his fingertips!!!

This song is about how many managers and promoters of rock stars will do anything to get their boy on stage and put lots of money in their pockets. They are part of the 'machine' which eats up and spits out artists on a regular basis. That is why the 27 club exists. It is a deep cry of pain for the loss of the innocence of the artist and the fact that he feels the only way to cope with selling his soul is to become comfortably numb.

      JandT LivingLife
The chorus progression was written by guitarist David Gilmour, who recorded a wordless demo.[citation needed] The verse and lyrics were written by bassist Roger Waters. The lyrics were inspired by Waters's experience of being injected with tranquillisers for stomach cramps before a Pink Floyd show in Philadelphia on the 1977 In the Flesh Tour.[6] "That was the longest two hours of my life," Waters said, "trying to do a show when you can hardly lift your arm."[7] The song had the working title "The Doctor"

    • @jandtlivinglife3130
      @jandtlivinglife3130 4 года назад

@@lynnhoffman247 Yes, I know about the Philadelphia show but I feel Waters was using that experience as a metaphor (or is it analogy? I always mix them up) for the whole 'Rock God' experience. Floyds pervasive lament, throughout much of their music, of the price they paid for stardom tells me that playing a lead role in a cage hurt them tremendously. Having said that, when I see more recent videos of Gilmour playing, there is a calmness in his eyes which wasn't there when he was young.

@@jandtlivinglife3130 You're probably right - he's said the whole concept of The Wall came to him during a performance on the Animals tour when he was looking down at the crowd and realized they didn't even register as human to him anymore - he had spit on one of the fans in the front row and they loved being treated like that and it fucked him up to realize what he had become, even for just a moment.

Brilliant brilliant brilliant dude but stop stop stop!
You just stumbled into a rabbit hole that you are not expecting😉
First, if you thought the guitar solo was chill then watch Pink Floyd Live at the Pulse Concert - Comfortably Numb....
Please trust me, as an "older" Brit who grew up listening to Floyd the live version will blow your socks off!!!
BTW this track is from the double album "The Wall" but the artwork is the album Dark Side of the Moon.
DSotM is definitely where you should go to start finding your way into Floyd. It's a concept album where tracks transition straight into each other. So to avoid awkward cuts / breaks its best done in order.
Track 1 DSotM is just a very short intro to track 2 and the album.
Please please please, I know suggesting an entire album sounds deep, but please trust me. DSotM sold over 45,000,000 units and charted for somewhere over 15 years so it's not too shaby 😂
If you do this, if you take the red pill, then, buckle up your seat Dorethy, Kansas is about to go bye bye!!! 😂😂😂

You don't have to be tripping on acid or stoned from weed to enjoy it! It just really helps! 😂😂😂 But no it's just great layed back relaxing music! Growing up in the 80's we'd go to the planetarium to watch the laser light show and yes we usually were partying and messed up while watching it. And I've seen them in concert and was high the whole time! But that was much different times back then also! This song live at Pulse has an even longer guitar solo that is worth your time even if not done in a reaction!

You don't have to be trippin to love Pink Floyd. You just have to lay back, chill, close your eyes, listen and you're off into the universe

Ive played guitar for 27 years. The second solo in this song might be the best solo of all time. David gilmour is unreal.

Lmao. This came out in 1977, but no worries. I can't believe that you're hearing this for the first time. I was already twenty one when this tune came out, and it blew me away. You didn't have to be tripping. This tune would take you wherever you needed to go, anyway. P.S. - The guitarist Gilmour was born with golden fingers.

Loved your reaction to comfortably numb, i've listened to Floyd since the 80's, if you love that guitar solo.....that is nothing compared to Gilmour's solo on comfortably numb live at Pulse, easily in the top best 2 solo's of ALL TIME, you should also check out 'Time' from the Dark Side of the Moon album, it's an absolute masterpiece, a song every young person should hear today. Keep up the good content buddy.....Peace!!

You need context - this is from a Rock Opera called The Wall
The main character “Pink” is a rockstar in his dressing room ... the guy is knocking telling him it is almost show time. Pink is having a nervous breakdown (Watch the movie. Bob Geldof was really good!!) You do not need to be on drugs lol

First, the album you have on display is Dark Side of the Moon. Comfortably Numb is from The Wall album.
Second, there are two singers. The “speaking” at the beginning (Hello...hello...hello) , is Roger Waters (bassist). The second is David Gilmore. Lead vocals, and lead guitar (the guitar solos).
David starts singing.... there is no pain, you are receding.

Also, watch the movie The Wall (the Pink Floyd one, not the one with John Cena). Playing Pink is Bob Geldoff who was the creative mind behind the Live Aid concert and was the lead for the band, the Boomtown Rats (I Don’t Like Mondays). m.imdb.com/title/tt0084503/
