This reminds me of my childhood growing up in Green Bay, Wi. There was a Chicago & Northwestern line on one side of the river, Milwaukee Road line on the other side of the river, and 3 draw bridges crossing the river. It could be a real challenge to get from one side of the city to the other.
You didnt have Great Northern ir NP up there? We lived just outside Chicago in Arlington Heights. Dad would take me into the RRyards where we'd see everything, every roadname. I was a little guy and loved trains,so to me,it was thrilling.
@@sanddabz5635 I guess it was. We didn’t often cross over to “the east side” as it seemed everything had an east side and a west side location. I do remember the odd time my dad getting very frustrated.
@@rebelbaron7003 Nope, the 2 mentioned plus the short line Green Bay & Western. Now days the Milwaukee road is totally gone, and CN has what old Chicago Northwestern and Green Bay & western is left.
Any time! I will be giving you a shout out when I post my Deshler, Ohio videos. I gave you a shout out when I was making those videos but I haven't posted them yet. I want to get to Logansport this summer to that diamond area that you film
On the north side of Milwaukee you had both C&NW and MILW flat switching the Schlitz terminal at the same time and nobody was going anywhere until they were finished. The cool thing was C&NW crossed the MILW lead tracks on at least ten diamonds so both roads had to work out a complicated dance routine to get the job done. Enjoyed the video, thank you sir.
First from the UK? So Two videos and God knows how long in real time later, and you can finally cross back to your car. Love of trains tested to the limit!
Just an attempt to cut costs by using fewer personnel at the expense of safety. Like in this example, think how many cars had to detour, including fire and police. Look at the rise of derailments. Finally, how do you fit a 10000 ft train on a 3000 ft siding or in a freight yard even shorter than that? Now they are trying to go to 1 man crews all at the expense of safety. Your safety!
I'm glad you did film that! That was awesome. I have never seen tanks like that before. Wonder where they are going. Great filming! Thanks for what you are doing.
Great excellent video, mr Jaw Tooth. Yes wath was the type of the armytanks on the second southbound train of CSX. Wath was the destination for the train. One thing i know for sure, he was long. Greet from Zandvoort the Netherlands.
Part 2 was well worth the wait the length of those trains are like the trains that go through Horseshoe curve in Altoona PA those trains are really long
FYI A Friend of mine that's in the ARMY told me that just about anything ARMY that goes South ends up down in Alabama for reconditioning. Mist of them have been shipped back from various Places overseas . Just thought you might like that info. Have A Great Day God Bless
What a great video and thanks for taking that time to film the two trains. I noticed the following RR car rental companies in this video (tankards and/or hoppers): GATX, UTLX, CEFX, SAMX, CGTX, ACFX, BNGX, CSYX, AEX, SHPX, CBTX, TILX, HKRX, CBFX, VTGX, TCIX, TCMX, GBRX, MWCX, FURX, GAMX, SHPX, and CMNX. I may have missed some of the cars. Also, on the first train, I've never seen an Arkansas, Louisiana & Mississippi engine before. In my area In Pa. NS is the the main RR company.
It looks like those NYC gons should've had an appointment with the scrap yard a long time ago. With respect to the monster trains blocking the crossings and effectively cutting small towns in half, eventually the folks are going to tire of that situation and demand relief, as in possible fines levied on railroads for blocking crossings, i.e., stopped for a length of time. In the long-ago world of railroading, if we pulled into a siding and were going to be there a while, we had to cut the train and clear the crossing. Arriving on through freights in my hometown turn-around, we also had to cut the crossing at the main artery [road] linking the east side of town with the west side. That was standard operating procedure even though there was a crew change. The crossing could not be blocked for more than five minutes. The current monster train situation keeps emergency services from getting to an emergency call in a timely manner.
That's been a HUGE problem here in middle TN with CSX with the blocked crossings. I know one person had a heart attack and died, ambulance took 30 minutes to get to his house cause a train was blocking the crossing. It was in a rural area and there was no good direct way to get to his house other than the road with the crossing. Granted he might not have made it if EMS got there in 10 minutes, but you never know and those first few minutes are CRUCIAL for saving a life. CSX has been apathetic to downright hostile/belligerent about cooperating with the local fire departments/cops depending on who you talk to. Pretty sure the state legislature proposed a bill to keep them from blocking crossings, not sure if it passed or went anywhere though.
Hey JT. I can't wait for a possible visit in the future for the first time if the gas prices go down. There's quite a few railfan hotspots I'd love to show you.
Terrific video as always! Nice shot of the Spirit of Cincinnati on that one engine. FYI - Genesee and Wyoming is rooted in upstate NY and has an interesting history.
He could but he'd need a part 107 commercial license and would be limited in where he could fly it over the trains. A lot of the rural spots would be doable.
I was surprised how fast the Northbound started moving once they got it "stretched", but I would have been tempted to cross between the tank cars before the other train started rolling. Of course I understand you CAN'T/WON'T promote anything deemed unsafe. Some very interesting cars on both trains. Keep the great videos coming and I'll continue to tune in .. Thanks, JT
You gave us a cliff-hanger this time haha! "Will Jaw Tooth ever get back to his car? Tune in tomorrow!" Seriously though, thanks for all the great videos!
Yes!!!! Long trains ! Can’t believe they didn’t have a DPU on the end of the 2nd train. I noticed about 19:00 count their was a curved shadow on the train cars when you filmed to the left. 1st I thought I had a hair on my phone surface. I tried to wipe it off my phone! 😂. U could see enough of the tanks and when the 2nd train started moving it was such an awesome shot! Thanks for videoing!
Nice video as always!!! Fun fact, that military/manifest lead engines were just in my home state of Michigan as M326-05 and M327-06. CSX 5500 has the Spirit of Cincinnati embedded on its cab.
I’ve said before that all trains are just getting bigger and bigger by the day, and when one or two of them blocks crossings for quite a while it can be Frustrating to the people of these small city’s. Seeing those army tanks was pretty cool though. What was the reason they were stopped anyway. Love to see trains “stretching “ when starting up, so cool, but big trains obviously present big problems when They sit still like this blocking crossings. As always thanks for sharing JT.👍🏼🚂
