6:46 Jim Crow was a system of laws and customs that enforced racial segregation and discrimination against African Americans in the United States from the late 19th century until the mid-1960s. The name "Jim Crow" comes from a character in minstrel shows who was a caricature of a black man.
Under Jim Crow laws, African Americans were required to attend separate schools, use separate public facilities such as water fountains and restrooms, and were often relegated to the back of public transportation. They were also denied the right to vote through a variety of means, such as literacy tests and poll taxes.
These laws were upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in the 1896 case of Plessy v. Ferguson, which established the "separate but equal" doctrine, allowing for segregation in public facilities as long as they were supposedly equal in quality. However, in reality, the facilities provided for African Americans were often of lower quality.
Jim Crow laws were gradually dismantled through the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s, culminating in the landmark 1964 Civil Rights Act, which prohibited discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.

3:30 Marxism is a political and economic theory that was developed by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in the mid-19th century. At its core, Marxism is a critique of capitalism, arguing that it is an inherently unjust economic system that creates inequality and exploitation.
Marxism is based on the idea that history is defined by class struggles, with the ruling class exploiting the working class in order to maintain their power and wealth. Marx argued that capitalism, with its emphasis on profit and the accumulation of capital, was the most extreme form of this exploitation.
Marxism advocates for the establishment of a socialist society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the workers. This would involve the abolition of private property, the establishment of a planned economy, and the eventual transition to a classless society in which the state is no longer necessary.
Marxism has been a major influence on political and economic thought throughout the world, and has been used as the basis for a variety of political movements, including communism and socialism.
The question of why Marxism has not worked is a complex and contested one, with a range of perspectives and opinions. Some argue that Marxism has not worked because it has been poorly implemented, while others argue that its core principles are inherently flawed. Here are a few reasons that are commonly cited:
Centralized control: Marxism calls for the centralized control of the means of production and the economy. However, critics argue that this can lead to inefficiencies, corruption, and a lack of innovation. In practice, centralized planning has often resulted in shortages, rationing, and other economic problems.
Human nature: Marxism assumes that people are inherently altruistic and will work for the common good. However, critics argue that this view is naive and that people are motivated by self-interest. In practice, this has led to issues with motivation and productivity in socialist and communist societies.
Lack of political freedom: Marxist regimes have often been characterized by a lack of political freedom, with dissent and opposition suppressed. This has led to authoritarianism and human rights abuses, which many argue are inherent to the Marxist system.
Resistance to change: Marxist regimes have often been resistant to change, with leaders clinging to outdated economic policies and resisting market-oriented reforms. This has led to economic stagnation and a lack of innovation.
