Another winner. After a system is installed, usually by someone else, you are left with a complexity that is often hard to comprehend. Many of us just live with the malfunctions until we open our wallets to a service guru. Jay eliminates that need, saving money and time. By the way, I just replaced my Hunter main control box with an Orbit. It is simpler to program and has a Bluetooth app that lets me control the system from my phone, saving steps and time. I love it.
Harley, I prefer to do the adjustments with the system running, although it's not necessary. The pliers featured in the video allow you to grab the top of unit and pull it up out of the sleeve, so adjustments can be made. But, I prefer to work "live", although you're gonna get a bit wet. With the sprinkler head extended and running, you can now set the fixed left edge of the sprinkler arc, as well as adjust the set screw to open up or diffuse the spray a bit more, and you can set the amount of the arc by adjusting the right edge of the spray arc. Those are all set from the sprinkler top. The one thing you can't do with the spray on is change the nozzle in case you want another spray profile or GPM rating. I hope that helps! Best, DFJ
Margaret, yes, but you have to be very careful as the force that a "vice-grip" type of tool exerts can scar the shank of the sprinkler pop up section, or worse yet, crush it. I hope that helps! Best, DFJ
Thomas, I don't think so. From what I see, the parts are not available as a kit. I've even searched other videos and all point to just replacing the whole head. I've also checked on the Rainbird® website and they don't offer rebuild kits. I suspect you've got grit in the heads or the grit screen at the bottom is clogged and you are getting enough pressure to get the sprinkler to pop up, but with limited flow, they don't rotate. Check that before replacing. Let me know how it turns out! Best, DFJ
fatboybutch, the set screw allows you to preset the pliers to the maximum amount of jaw spread you want for the type/size sprinkler you are working on. This means you can confidently squeeze the pliers without fear or breaking the plastic in the sprinkler head. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching and writing! Best, DFJ

Great video. I was wondering how the holdup tool works and you explained how to use it perfectly.
I use this tool set almost everyday. I love the pop-up tool. Best for upgrading nozzles.
Thanks
Welcome!
I'm new at this...I don't get how to adjust these when they're in the ground. Do you do it while they're on? That way they're popped up..

Will vice grips work like a hold up tool?

Is it possible to rebuild a 5000? I have several that pop up but won't rotate

Thank you very much Jay. I will try that and let you know. I appreciate the reply very much!

I've been practicing ventriloquism, but haven't perfected it yet. LOL! Best, DFJ
Made in China no thank you.
So is 99% of everything else. Your cell phone or computer that you wrote your comment on is likely ... wait for it.... Made in China!
@@pauldt 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I was about to say the same!
What's the set screw for?
