  • Just as we arrived in Chance Cove it started to lightly snow. But that didn't stop us from starting our hike. As we made the journey further up the Chance Cove Coastal trail, it started to clear, we were pretty happy about that. As the trail was snow covered, it did make it a bit more difficult to navigate. The forested sections of the trail were so peaceful, and the look out points offered spectacular views. There are a couple of areas where you can get down to the beach, with assisted ropes, something we will try in the summer. We did enjoy the hike, and the views didn't disappoint.

Really enjoying your videos! It's such a pleasure to see your excitement and share your joy as you discover what wonderful beauty nature has gifted to Newfoundland and Labrador! Fun fact: the "moss" in that tree is not actually moss. It's actually a lichen (Usnea Longissima) which is fairly common in Newfoundland, and is often called "old man's beard" or "maldow", and local folklore tells of it's medicinal properties. You'll rarely find it that low on tree branches, however, because it's a favourite snack for our moose! It's been studied fairly recently by Memorial University of Newfoundland, if you wish to research it further.

What an incredible coast path, every corner you turned there was another gorgeous view and cove! It will be wonderful to return in the summer and use the ropes to get down onto the beaches or paddle out and explore the caves.
