I just tracked the mic down and pulled it out. As far as hearing playback, that's the main thing it does. It passes the headphone output of the phone through the 3.5mm output on the rear. It does not automatically have the microphone looping into your headphones though. In order to have that you would need to have some kind of recording software that allows you to turn on monitoring of the microphone input.

Don't know how you'd connect this to a computer because of the form fact. I suggest using a video app that allows you to adjust the mic input levels. Don't remember what it was called.

I'm busking on the streets, and while I'm having a "real" portable PA with both microphone and guitar input, I'd sometimes like to not carry around all that stuff and still be able to amplify both my voice and my guitar. I have an iPhone holder that I can attach to the front of my acoustic guitar, so I can look at my iPhone's screen while playing. I thought: why not just use my microphone to pick up both the guitar and my voice, and connect a little Bluetooth speaker to amplify a bit (not to wear out my voice too fast)? While wearing headphones, this works perfectly (sound quality isn't great, but enough for my purpose). But as soon as I connect the speaker, I get terrible feedback issues (no surpise here). So - do you think using a directional microphone like the RØDE VideoMic Me (and placing the speaker in front of myself, facing to the audience), I would get a better result? Maybe you could give it a try? I would love to hear your opinion. Thank you!

HELP! I've had this mic for a few years, been loving it so far, yet I just got a new phone without any audio jack. Rode has yet to release a similar mic with usb-c connector, and I've been racking my brain on how to use my old videomic me with the new phone. Got an adapter, but the mic just won't lock the way it used to. Then I bought a trrs extension and basically use it as a handheld mic, but still there's no convenience of a shotgun mic there. Do you have any suggestion?

If you are on windows, go into the sound icon in the bottom right. Press recording settings, find the interface. Right click it, go to advanced, chose a mono channel like "1 channel, 16 bit, 48000 hz (DVD Quality). That should fix it, I know there is a way to do it for Mac, but I don't know much about Mac's operation system. I know he showed how to do it on Mac in an old video, where he reviews a Behringer interface.

But I'm wondering if I can use Samson Go Mic at a distance of 2 or 3 feet (keeping it out of the frame)? Is this RØDE VideoMicMe technically exactly same as RØDE VideoMicro? (Their specs seem to be the same) I think that a shotgun mic would be a more versatile option than a voiceover mic. What do you think? I can get similar voice quality (rich highs with deep bass) when held up close with a shotgun mic? Can you please compare Samson Go Mic and RØDE VideoMicro (or VideoMicMe, if they're technically same) for (1) typical voiceover (close-distance mic setup with pop filter) (2) out of frame mic, say 2 or 3 feet away? Please don’t not say that. It’s comments like this that made my get and kinda regret getting the IPhone 6s and not the 7(for the camera mostly). I say the solution to that is getting the right kind of adapter like some videos shown or getting the newer version of the Videomic Me with a lightning connector.

sounds suprisingly well for the price, I would probably pick it up if my phone had a better front camera
You can aslways use mic the other direction and record using rear facing camera.

MarfGaming it most likely will. tablets has same TRRS jack for mic and headphone inputs.
As long as they keep the 3.5mm jack, then it should work. +FUnForChu was exactly correct.
