Great video . I use both I never go anywhere without the spirit burner and trangia triangle. I use the gas for food and at same time the triangle for a brew.. love it.
I have a 25 and a 27. I use the alcohol burner in the 27 and it is most often used for making coffee or as a second burner. The gas burner stays with the 25, as it is used more for cooking meals for 2-4 people.
I would still rather use the meths one. When I’m camping, time is inconsequential. I also love the nostalgic smell of meths, it has a lot of good memories for me!😁

One thing to consider I suppose, is that the gas is on heat in a moment or so wheras the metho burner needs some time to warm up. The gas adaptor would be good for searing meat, etc. You can buy an adaptor for most gas stoves, etc so that you can take advantage of the 220Gm RVR (Rim Vent Release) Butane Canisters which are as cheap as chips. The adaptor doesn't add much weight and will save you a bomb over a few years. Good video, thanks.
Another thing I've added, is an adapter for a butane canister. The type used in the portable butane burner stoves... the fuel in those bottles, costs a lot less than the camping bottles seen at camp stores... $5 for 5 vs $8 for 1, and you see the difference.
Another great video, thanks for the comparison. I have the 27 and I’m getting this for the times I just want a fast cup of coffee. Selling my other Coleman and others, sticking with the Trangia system and my Firebox I can do anything. Since I car/ tent camp ( I’m a 62 years old woman, and at times camp alone) weight is not so much of an issue. Except when camping in bear country and have to move things around all the time, those buggers are smart and have a great sense of smell. Lol. Trangia suits my needs. Again thanks.
For everyone who is flirting with a gas burner for the Trangia 25 or 27: Try the Primus PrimeTec Stove (1.3 or 2.3 liters). very secure footing, very good wind protection, very fast and very quiet. Disadvantage? Very expensive! - Good work Paul and greetings from northern Germany
What you won’t get with the cheaper version is Trangia’s after-sales service- or fit apparently!!My gas adapter started leaking from a joint - after about 10 years- it was replaced without charge. The pre-heater loop means you can invert the canister.
Just got the Bulin gas burner yesterday. I’m using it with my firebox folding stoves. I also have 5 trangia spirit burners as well as the Evernew titanium spirit burner. It’s great to have twig, alcohol and gas options. Thanks for the video. There are not many out there for the Bulin gas burner. I paid $12 for mine direct from China.
I going to need a replacement knob for the teapot-it melted. I am pretty sure that using the gas attachment (on a very windy day) might have overheated the pot. So I got creative and purchased a cabinet knob to replace the melted one on the teapot-it works great!
Purchased the gas burner for my trangia it is awsome. You can get an adapter so you can use the cheap butane cans directly to the trangia then use the propane if temp is under zero as straight butane will freeze up hope this helps enjoy. Cheers Steve.

Just got a brand spanking new trangia 25-8 ul/ha for £60. Not picked any liquid fuel up yet to try it out but i already have a vango folding gas stove and coleman gas canister. I thought I'd try and drop the vango stove in and and boil up the kettle. It fits in pretty well although not quite flush, took almost 6mins to boil 0.9l of water to a rolling boil. So it's another option that works without any more outlay. Great videos btw😁👍
I still like the simplicity of the Trangia/Evernew burners. I even tried the Pathfinder & it was dismal at best. Save your money & get the Trangia or Evernew.
The reason the pipe goes through the burner flame is to turn a liquid feed into gas, which may be necessary in winter when the gas canister is a lot colder, and therefore will not turn the liquid fuel contained inside into gas when the valve is opened. Furthermore this is a good safety measure as a liquid feed is very dangerous and will turn your camping oven into a raging inferno. Two thumbs up for Swedish engineering.

The Bulin is cheaply made, and after using it a bit, I really don't trust it to hold up. The Trangia gas adapter fits into the Trangia kit better, in my experience, and just works better, for me. Hi paul. I believe if you pull the stainless steel clip ends outwards a little the burner will clip into the windshield more securely. Incidentally, I think the preheat tube is more for liquid fuel such as Coleman fuel.
The biggest issue with people in the EU buying anything designed and made in China, is that Chinese makers copy designs that they will not support if their product breaks or causes any issues. It breaks, probably gets binned and another is bought. It’s unlikely to be an issue for folk like us, which is often why we don’t see any problems with it but safety regs have to cater to people who might use a gas burner as eg. a tent heater. Leaky gas appliances kill at festivals. How would anyone report a Chinese company in the event of it going disastrously wrong? That’s one reason for why we pay more for the same thing made in China by European companies. Pressed aluminium simply does not cost that much, so if cheaper Chinese aluminium kit was used and an EU certified (CE) burner used, happy days. Biggest difference for me I could hear the birds with the Trangia the Bulin was a jet engine by comparison. A couple of minutes wait for boiling water I can wait.
I suppose, with experience, you'll know what sort of position to put the simmer ring at, before you start cooking, perhaps needing a different angle for different food-stuffs ....... Slower - probably won't matter most of the time, bar an icy day when you need a hot drink quickly. I haven't gone down the Trangia route - but did get 2 non-stick 27s recently, and am drawn to the meths burner idea - available everywhere, and cheap
Boiling water in a certain amount of time only depends of the BTU's used. More heat equals more fuel used equals more money. Do like to keep camping simple. Are the gas canisters refillable/ recyclable?

Had both burners mate. Trangia was ok but broke after about a yrs use. Maybe bad handling by me? Bought the generic one of flea bay for half the price. Had it four months now. Downside... it's a bit heavier than the trangia original. Plus side... it's easier to adjust flame than the trangia. Especially when you need a smaller flame. I use mine mainly when beach fishing in every weather condition imaginable. Great vids mate.. Good in-depth explanations and demos well done. Thumbs up
I noticed that you didn't clip the gas burner onto the base. The little wings clip under the trianga base, by sliding one in first and then the other making it a solid fit.
This is the reason why it wont fit snuggly photos.app.goo.gl/1abTNyj5cG1jazF46 The easiest way is to just bend the wing clips with your fingers to widen , then it fits perfectly.
yep I use both; I also use the Trangia 'triangle' stand/sheild because it folds flat and weighs next to nothing; However I use the Army version of the Trangia Spirit Burner which is larger and holds more fuel (has a twist lid instead of screw lid) - I had to do a few mods to get it to fit within the triangle pot stand/wind shield though, and the only snuffer/flame adjuster that fits it is off a 'Tatonka' spirit burner.
Hey Paul, I know this video is 6 years old but I wanted to know if the bulin gas ‘knock off’ of the Trangia gas stove still holding up? They’re £17 atm and was considering buying one, I’m new to Trangia and trying to slow build up my cooking system. Having said that, I do believe in the saying, buy cheap buy twice. had my first trangia meal (chilli) cook the other day on my recently acquired used 27 set because of your amazing cooking vids, have been using a pocket rocket that's useless for actual cooking but amazing for boiling speed. Have to say I prefer the almost silence of the spirit burner but found it still had a small hotspot with the simmer ring. I'll have to try a gas burner as it'll be a wider heat source and probably pretty quiet on low heat
I agree. Why not get this Chinese made burner. It’s cheap. It actually seems to work better too! I also have a Primus Omnilite Ti in trangia adapter for my duossal 27 which can also burn canister fuel. But I bought this cheap gas burner to keep with my 27 set. That leaves my Omnilite Ti back to stock setup and ready for other cool sets. Great video!
Thx for your videos. I find the noise of the gasburners more anonying. I want my burner to be quiet especially for my morning coffee. 10min or 3min doesn't matter to me. But I don't like the smell of fuel on the alcohol stove either. Haven't dared to try the windshields with coals. Otherwise that would've been my optimum setup. A "twig burner" with a option for a alcohol. Alcohol burner for breakfast and when the forest is dry. Wood for making dinner and warmth in the evening. If you know of any such options or if you can burn twigs in the trangia windshields I would be interested to know (could be a interesting video).
I've never used gas stoves for cooking on while camping but I do love my trangia and for the price this gas burner is being offered at then I will give it a blast. Are the gas bottle fittings pretty universal ?

I had thegenuine trangia gas burner and it packed in after 3 camping trips kept stuttering and popping became unusable. Bought a go systems for half the price and 3 years later still going strong.
Is there a tool to remove the hot trangia cooker and replace it with a cold one to continue cooking your meals? I dont have a trangia yet but i think it could be smart to buy another one but only the cooker itself, not the whole Set with the windshield etc..
@@PaulBissekerBushcraft I do have those little cups with a lid to fit in the Trangia #25&27. They are aluminum which some solid fuels corrode. So check for that. I believe the Trangia info says they are for gelled alcohol. I bought them hoping I could add solid fuel while cooking, but I would need fuel which does not effect aluminum. Hi Simon, if i can find moss or grass even leaves i will give it a good rub around to get the worst out. I carry baby wipes so i will use those too. I always carry a carrier bag to put really dirty pans in too.

I have several alcohol stoves & I can tell you that your fuel is not up to snuff. Maybe it is contaminated with water, but the flame is too yellow & not jetting properly.
I've got a clikstand that's the same as a trangia triangle and accepts trangia gas burner. That augments my 27-3. I'm surprised that the Chinese haven't copied the storm cookers yet.
I’ve got a Gelert copy of the 25 and that’s Chinese in origin. Cracking piece of kit. They’re rare as hens teeth now because trangia copyrighted the 3D shape of the trangia back in 2010.

After seeing your demo I might now get the gas-adapter but, with my trangia 27 purchased in the 1980s, it doesn't have that large hole in the windbreak to pass the hose-flange thru. Might need to get the dremel tool out and make another modification.

Ive got the cheap gasburner also i got from wish and i love it, boil my water very fast, and i made a holder with 3 legs like any other stoves where my gasburner fits in so i can use the burner without the bulky trangia cookset if i want to and that works perfect too.
Go Systems do a cheaper version than the Trangia original gas burner. I bought a Trangia one when they were about £30. It is still going strong. Much prefer running my Trangia on butane/propane gas as opposed to the meths/alcohol. So much easier and quicker to boil and cook, no smell and no worry about liquid fuel leaks or spills.
It's a no brainer,every thing you said about control of the flame🔥is bang on ,spead of boiling again a no brainer,having the spirit in reserve as backup is handy if you run out gas,it's a belt and braces job,one other thing is you pots don't get dirty with soot with the gas,the spirit you can get a sooty deposit on your cookware,but I must say the gas is the one to go for in my opinion.

Duossal for serious camp cocking and the other versions if you want to save some weight for light weight hiking. You can also mix the materials. I have added a non-stick pan.
Great review. I wonder if you could use it with just butane as I do not use mine in the really cold weather. I do not know if it would work right as it is a propane burner. Anyone know?
I don't know why your "clasp" doesn't work. Mine does. When I squeeze it, the stove base fits through the hole of the base plate, and when I release it, it locks in. It's perfect engineering in my opinion.
I looked at the Bulin online and they misengineered it! It's like they didn't know what it fits into, and left out the "fold" that makes it lock in place. Oh well, you saved $45.
I have a trangia and it's just simple and brilliant and brilliantly simple. I have heard rumors that there are other cookers out there but I think it is just rumors.

Good vid mate, made an impulse buy of that gas adaptor. Have you tried nomex gloves for handling pots etc when camping ? There are cheaper gloves out there but these don't take up much space and aren't stupidly expensive. They're available on ebay too. ;-)
A lot more compact mate, I've not tried them when wet to see if they conduct the heat more though. Whatever works for you, I've used 'worky' gloves in the past when playing with fire and they're better than nothing if you're not fannying around, keep the vids coming.
I've not hung around but they're fine for quick stuff like grabbing pots off etc. The material is flame proof although there isn't a lot of insulation.

Good point about tossing that simmer ring on to snuff out the flame. I see people toss them all the time and often times they bounce back off.

yep I use both; I also use the Trangia 'triangle' stand/sheild because it folds flat and weighs next to nothing; However I use the Army version of the Trangia Spirit Burner which is larger and holds more fuel (has a twist lid instead of screw lid) - I had to do a few mods to get it to fit within the triangle pot stand/wind shield though, and the only snuffer/flame adjuster that fits it is off a 'Tatonka' spirit burner.
It's good to do mods and find a setup you like. I have done a few tweaks here and there. Thanks for sharing ;)

Hey Paul, I know this video is 6 years old but I wanted to know if the bulin gas ‘knock off’ of the Trangia gas stove still holding up?
They’re £17 atm and was considering buying one, I’m new to Trangia and trying to slow build up my cooking system. Having said that, I do believe in the saying, buy cheap buy twice. Wonder if that’s the case here..??

I did buy twice! They both work flawlessly. I have one in my 25 and one in my 27. Don't worry about them, they are good.

had my first trangia meal (chilli) cook the other day on my recently acquired used 27 set because of your amazing cooking vids, have been using a pocket rocket that's useless for actual cooking but amazing for boiling speed. Have to say I prefer the almost silence of the spirit burner but found it still had a small hotspot with the simmer ring. I'll have to try a gas burner as it'll be a wider heat source and probably pretty quiet on low heat

I agree. Why not get this Chinese made burner. It’s cheap. It actually seems to work better too! I also have a Primus Omnilite Ti in trangia adapter for my duossal 27 which can also burn canister fuel. But I bought this cheap gas burner to keep with my 27 set. That leaves my Omnilite Ti back to stock setup and ready for other cool sets. Great video!

I find the noise of the gasburners more anonying. I want my burner to be quiet especially for my morning coffee. 10min or 3min doesn't matter to me. But I don't like the smell of fuel on the alcohol stove either. Haven't dared to try the windshields with coals. Otherwise that would've been my optimum setup. A "twig burner" with a option for a alcohol. Alcohol burner for breakfast and when the forest is dry. Wood for making dinner and warmth in the evening.
If you know of any such options or if you can burn twigs in the trangia windshields I would be interested to know (could be a interesting video).

Perhaps you already found something suitable, but I use the Firebox Nano for this => twig burner with option for a Trangia burner. Works great!
I've never used gas stoves for cooking on while camping but I do love my trangia and for the price this gas burner is being offered at then I will give it a blast.

I had thegenuine trangia gas burner and it packed in after 3 camping trips kept stuttering and popping became unusable. Bought a go systems for half the price and 3 years later still going strong.

Is there a tool to remove the hot trangia cooker and replace it with a cold one to continue cooking your meals? I dont have a trangia yet but i think it could be smart to buy another one but only the cooker itself, not the whole Set with the windshield etc..

@@PaulBissekerBushcraft I do have those little cups with a lid to fit in the Trangia #25&27. They are aluminum which some solid fuels corrode. So check for that. I believe the Trangia info says they are for gelled alcohol. I bought them hoping I could add solid fuel while cooking, but I would need fuel which does not effect aluminum. All you need is a little metal dish that fits the hole of the trangia for solid/gel fuel. Carry as backup in case of meths spillage.

Hi Simon, if i can find moss or grass even leaves i will give it a good rub around to get the worst out. I carry baby wipes so i will use those too. I always carry a carrier bag to put really dirty pans in too.

I have several alcohol stoves & I can tell you that your fuel is not up to snuff. Maybe it is contaminated with water, but the flame is too yellow & not jetting properly.

I've got a clikstand that's the same as a trangia triangle and accepts trangia gas burner. That augments my 27-3. I'm surprised that the Chinese haven't copied the storm cookers yet.
I’ve got a Gelert copy of the 25 and that’s Chinese in origin. Cracking piece of kit. They’re rare as hens teeth now because trangia copyrighted the 3D shape of the trangia back in 2010.

I always measure out just one cup of water and it boils in no time with gas.
After seeing your demo I might now get the gas-adapter but, with my trangia 27 purchased in the 1980s, it doesn't have that large hole in the windbreak to pass the hose-flange thru. Might need to get the dremel tool out and make another modification.
I had that problem with my 25 series No Hole! I cut mine out :)

Ive got the cheap gasburner also i got from wish and i love it, boil my water very fast, and i made a holder with 3 legs like any other stoves where my gasburner fits in so i can use the burner without the bulky trangia cookset if i want to and that works perfect too.
After everything is said and done which fuel type/brand do you find is the best for these Trangia style burners?

Go Systems do a cheaper version than the Trangia original gas burner. I bought a Trangia one when they were about £30. It is still going strong. Much prefer running my Trangia on butane/propane gas as opposed to the meths/alcohol. So much easier and quicker to boil and cook, no smell and no worry about liquid fuel leaks or spills.
Also no soot everywhere to clean up off everything, including your hands...
It's a no brainer,every thing you said about control of the flame🔥is bang on ,spead of boiling again a no brainer,having the spirit in reserve as backup is handy if you run out gas,it's a belt and braces job,one other thing is you pots don't get dirty with soot with the gas,the spirit you can get a sooty deposit on your cookware,but I must say the gas is the one to go for in my opinion.

Duossal for serious camp cocking and the other versions if you want to save some weight for light weight hiking.
You can also mix the materials. I have added a non-stick pan.

I don't know why your "clasp" doesn't work. Mine does. When I squeeze it, the stove base fits through the hole of the base plate, and when I release it, it locks in. It's perfect engineering in my opinion.
I see know that yours is a Bulin. I have the Trangia (the Primus). Maybe that's the difference.
I looked at the Bulin online and they misengineered it! It's like they didn't know what it fits into, and left out the "fold" that makes it lock in place. Oh well, you saved $45.

I bought one and it doesn’t clip in but it stills works. The clips for this stove is really a waste.
Think ill stick to alcohol burners, fuel are more plentiful at least where I live
big deference. but still only 3-4 min deference. but alchool got no noise! i am in no hurry and love wildlife noise insted of jets,,,,,but. if i go ice fishing. faster is better

Good vid mate, made an impulse buy of that gas adaptor. Have you tried nomex gloves for handling pots etc when camping ? There are cheaper gloves out there but these don't take up much space and aren't stupidly expensive. They're available on ebay too. ;-)

A lot more compact mate, I've not tried them when wet to see if they conduct the heat more though. Whatever works for you, I've used 'worky' gloves in the past when playing with fire and they're better than nothing if you're not fannying around, keep the vids coming.

I've not hung around but they're fine for quick stuff like grabbing pots off etc. The material is flame proof although there isn't a lot of insulation.
