Hi Mark, great review as always. You are spot on when you describe the engine as being "Turbine Smooth" I bought a TRK 502 in the spring and it has the same engine. If at all possible, the engine has become even better with a few miles on it. I can only describe the experience of riding on mine as like being whisked along on a flying carpet. Benelli is a really serious contender in this segment and they have an excellent product.
@@markpulling12 I've been looking at the Imperiale 400 "Classic/retro" bike to add to my TRK . I think the combination of looks, pedigree and price point make it a very good option for me as a returning biker, learning again.

@@tonysmih4796 Its nice to know that I'm not the only one who thinks both of these bikes are good options. The Imperiale is definitely, 1950s riding without the oil leaks. I have read that the reliability of the TRK 502 has convinced the Italian Police to use them as Municipal Police bikes. Great review of a great bike. I have the non trail version of this bike. I've had it for almost 2 years, ride all year round, both to work and on my days off. Great torque on the engine, comfortable and lovely to ride. The only niggle I have is there are a few bolts that are starting to rust, but she's kept in garage when not in use. Excellent. You stated your height and inseam. Sat on he bike showing stance of feet on ground, and how you set on bike with feet on pegs. No one else does this. Should be the first thing done in all test. Brilliant.

Leoncino owner here since March of last year. Bike is good in terms of power but some issues are there 1) Engine cuts off sometimes when downshifting coming from high RPM or going down hill 2) switches fail sometimes, may be due to moisture going in and rusting the contacts, pressing the buttons again will resolve. WD40 may prevent this in the future. 3) had an instance where the digital display cluster broke, its like when a calculator screen breaks and only portions of the numbers are showing? ganun. good thing is bumalik din, my theory is again moisture kasi i have been riding this thing in the rain of washing it 4) Rust, rust, rust. The frame is mostly steel not an alloy to save cost. and you will notice rust forming in some expose areas soon. There is an area where the rear brake line rubbed against the swingarm and exposing metal and it rusted. Had to sand the part and repaint it to prevent it from rusting further. the rear view mirrors are also rusted and paint starting from the thread are already bubbling up due to rust 5) aluminum corrosion, not sure what type of aluminum they are using but it is certainly low grade. Foot pegs both the rider and the passenger are already showing signs of corrosion same with the brake master cylinder and some aluminum parts. I am concerned about engine parts as it is too aluminum. 6) Chain, the chain rusts very quickly, I am very particular in my maintenance but still could not prevent it. Maybe i just need to replace it with a better one 6) Brake discs rust very quickly too, some of it went to the fork stanchions which i had to clean quickly so the stanchions dont rust. All in all, if i had to go back in time I would not buy this bike. Good looking for sure and engine is very capable, sadly the parts around it are not up to par with other makers. You will be best served by buying something like the XSR 700 for not a whole lot more money.
The day after tomorrow i'm buying a black 2021 Trail , can't wait mate!! I fell in love with it the moment i saw one last year. Italian style with a Chinese engine .. that's fine for me. Great vid !! Now i'm even more excited...your fault 😉
Hello Mark, have just got a 2018 plate version of this bike, and agree with your review, great engine pulls really well, am looking to add a screen and luggage rack for a bit of light touring. Great bike for the money 🙂
I'm seriously intrigued by how you say the engine is so smooth. 360Deg Cranks were previously the configuration espoused by Edward Turner on the British twins of the 40's onwards. As I'm sure we all know they were renowned for vibration. They do have the advantage of an even firing order (unlike the Japanese 180 deg twins) which might explain the torque and what you describe as a smooth sound. I can only assume they have some serious balancer shafts to soak up the inherent vibration. Shame Edward Turner didn't do the same. Anyway, and interesting choice by Benelli when pretty much everyone else has gone 270 deg for that V-Twin sound. I've seen a few around (probably the road version) and my one word adjective to describe them would be "chunky" Quite a distinctive look.
Thanks for the comment Dave ...yes they sound and feel smooth ...just a slight buzz above 6,k revs ...like you said must be the balancer shafts doing their thing ... cheers mark
Thanks Mark for some great reviews. If you had to chose from the Benelli range (inc the 752S) which would be your most balanced, best value, all rounder choice (I recognise the distinct groups the bikes sit in) - best experienced choice.....cheers.
Great review again Mark. Excellent work & very thorough. Not sure if the UK will get the CFMOTO CL-X range of motorcycles. I’m sure you will, maybe later. As always, ride & stay safe 🇦🇺
Nice touch on showing the ride height and seating position. Most never mention anything relevant to riding and instead babble on about "torques" incessantly.
In Australia the Himalayan sells for $7 Kay. This bike interests me more- any idea ball park figures Australian on this one.? I’m 5’8. I haven’t seen any in the Enfield dealership up the road. As of June ‘21 have to check to see if they’re still available.
Hi Mark, that’s a really nice bike, I had looked at few of them a little while ago. I think if you’re just starting to ride, then that bike will probably have all the power you’ll need.
Great review Mark. I am looking to get one of these, but waiting to see what they do with the Sports version and whether it will be shipped out to Australia. Keep up the great work!
I do like the Leoncino, don't see many reviews though so thanks for this. Seems pretty well put together, the Chinese bikes are definitely coming on leaps and bounds. Just the question of long term ownership/reliability/parts availability. Cheers! 👍
Great review I'm very tempted between this and cf 650 mt ,or wait for the cf 700x ,, it will be first big bike, and last me for 3 years or more ,keep up your good work, and stay safe
If you're looking at the MT, I'd have thought the TRK may be more what you'd be looking for. Either way, it'll be a good bike, I had a CF650TR for a few years, and it was an excellent bike, used daily on a 130 mile raound trip commute, all year round.
Great Review again , but tall for me (30" inside leg 800mm depending on seat width is my comfort zone) There's some really nice bikes being produced under the £6k price bracket now, your reviews are excellent Best regards Shaun
Really nice review. All your comments to the point. A small comnent-advice from me: try to keep the reviews at 9-10 minutes. I think you'll get more views like this, from those who are "in a hurry" . Greetings from Greece
nice review , especially detail to seat height analysis. I'm 5'7 an 3/4" but do appreciate being able to put feet on ground comfortably, any idea if lowering seat an inch or two would be possible with out a major project?
It has a lovely design, looks very nice to me. Besides the hight of seat is has a good bench and a very good riding position. Good leg angles no weight on the hands, no stretch of neck etc. GREAT. I wouldn´t consider the Tourance tyres as nobby :) Due to EU regulations, noise emissions, all modern Enduro tyres have street handling qualities and maybe little "offroad" design left over. In total a bike I would consider to buy. But I would feel even more comfortable if the "Chinese" would prove and confirm the ability to provide spare parts in time and for long period for reasonable price :)
Hi they are both great comfortable bikes the Benelli is cheaper than the re here in the UK ....I prefer the engine on the royal Enfield 650 it has more torque and is a bit smoother ...so I would choose the royal Enfield best wishes mark
Thank you Mark for showing and testing another capable bike from China via Italy. For me the "trail" denomination is a bit misleading though as I wouldn't want to take this (or similarly styled bikes) anywhere I wouldn't take my road bikes. :>)
Very good detailed review again Martin. The Chinese are producing some fine machines now. Can't say I am a fan of the short front mudguard or the rear number plate holder but that seems to be the current trend.
I think the positioning of the rear number plate, and how it's mounted is mainly down to current regulations rather than a trend. I'm with you on the short mudguard though, as you'll get all crap thrown onto the front of the engine, especially in iffy weather.
Hey Mark. Commented on your recent review of the new CB500X. Came across this review by chance. Interesting bike. Would really appreciate your thoughts on a back to back comparison with the 2022 X. Most people would walk past the Leoncino Trail to get to the Honda, but I'm wondering, with a few tweaks, whether the Bennelli could actualy be the better bike for the type of riding (commuting, sunday blasts, occasional 'short-hop' touring, easy gravel roads) that your typical X owner would do? Can't test the bikes side by side at the moment since no one seems to have the new X on demo, near me.
Hi Billy the Benelli is very good and I think you may even be able to pick up a new one at a bargain price! I really like them because they have that scrambler look :) But still very capable,I guess very long term ownership get the Honda but if you fancy something different these are worth a shot Cheers mark
Hi Mark, I know this review is a couple of years old now, but how would you rate the vibes on this bike to the Honda 500 engine? I’m really not keen on the Honda 500 engine.
Hi this is a 360 crank which feels smooth at low mid rpm ...the honda is a 180 crank which is ok ... personally I prefer the engine on the benelli Best wishes mark
@@markpulling12 Thanks Mark, the reason I asked is I had test ride today of the NX500 & CL500. I liked the style of the bikes but couldn’t get on with the engine. I found the engine very buzzy and felt it was revving faster than it actually was.
@@wozza59 yes you will generally get that with all 500 twins ...they are quite revvy ....a 500 single would be more of a relaxing feel ....you might be better off with like a 700 size .... tracer 7 ....trk benelli....that's when they start to be more relaxed at speed Cheers mark
Hi Adrian ....no didn't notice it any more than any other bike ...all you can hear when you're riding is just the pleasant noise, like a triple, the engine makes Cheers mark
Another smashing review Mark, I really like the look of the bike. You have got me thinking now after your positive comments. Shortly will be in the market for a weekend bike of this type, off to Royal Enfield tomorrow. I have a local Benelli dealer here in Cornwall I think I better pop by. All the best….cheers.
@@markpulling12 That's great will look forward to see that one. I am in two minds. The cf moto 650 mt is both lighter and more power full than the trk bikes. I think the MT offers better value but like the TRK.
I'm a bit on the taller side (around 6'4). Do you think I could ride this bike? I'm especially worried about the knee angle and the way my legs fit around the gas tank.
Thinking about getting the trail version of this bike ... Main concern i have is being 6'2" with a 34" inseam, the bike wouldnt feel too small to ride? Anyone who has one or has experience riding one, with any info in that regard, lmk, thx ahead of time. Cheers.
I can see it still has a problem with an inaccurate fuel gauge. Rising fuel level under acceleration is kind of funny. Mine Leoncino does this too. It is sad that you can't really know how much fuel is left in a tank.
Is it 'owned' by Chinese or 'built' in China ? I thought I heard ' built in China then returned to Italy for quality control ' . So , are they imported from Italy?
Surely a 6ft rider would struggle too if his inseam was less than yours!! Leg length is usually measured from the ground🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm 6ft by the way with a 29 inch inseam but my weight would compress the suspension and have me closer to the ground anyway..good review.A really good alternative to a Ducati scrambler or triumph!!
Thanks Daniel ....for sure yes ...a tall person with short legs would struggle but like you said their weight would help compress the bike down All the best mark

Great review Mark. I am looking to get one of these, but waiting to see what they do with the Sports version and whether it will be shipped out to Australia. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Patrick yes these are great bikes.. cheers mark
Looks and sounds really nice.
Thanks Jeffery
I love the Leoncino 500 Trail
Thanks so do I
Best regards mark
I do like the Leoncino, don't see many reviews though so thanks for this. Seems pretty well put together, the Chinese bikes are definitely coming on leaps and bounds. Just the question of long term ownership/reliability/parts availability. Cheers! 👍
Cheers thanks for the comment
Most owners seem happy with them ,some have 50 k miles with no probs cheers mark
Great review I'm very tempted between this and cf 650 mt ,or wait for the cf 700x ,, it will be first big bike, and last me for 3 years or more ,keep up your good work, and stay safe
Thanks Steven :)
If you're looking at the MT, I'd have thought the TRK may be more what you'd be looking for. Either way, it'll be a good bike, I had a CF650TR for a few years, and it was an excellent bike, used daily on a 130 mile raound trip commute, all year round.
Great Review again , but tall for me (30" inside leg 800mm depending on seat width is my comfort zone)
There's some really nice bikes being produced under the £6k price bracket now, your reviews are excellent
Best regards Shaun
Cheers Shaun .. ...502c review coming over the weekend :)
The standard version has a 785 mm seat height. Maybe worth looking into if you like the bike
Great review mark looks quite nice and a2 friendly too..new riders now have a huge choice of beginner bikes.
Thanks James ....I love these affordable a2 bikes ....502c coming over the weekend regards mark
Really nice review. All your comments to the point. A small comnent-advice from me: try to keep the reviews at 9-10 minutes. I think you'll get more views like this, from those who are "in a hurry" . Greetings from Greece
Thanks for the tips!
nice review , especially detail to seat height analysis. I'm 5'7 an 3/4" but do appreciate being able to put feet on ground comfortably, any idea if lowering seat an inch or two would be possible with out a major project?
Hi yes I'm sure you could get a motorcycle seat company to lower the seat foam a little and or look into getting lowering suspension links
Cheers mark
Thanks for your review, How is feeling if comparing with RE Interceptor 650. because now there are 2 choices in my mind to get them.
Hi they are both great comfortable bikes the Benelli is cheaper than the re here in the UK ....I prefer the engine on the royal Enfield 650 it has more torque and is a bit smoother ...so I would choose the royal Enfield best wishes mark
@@markpulling12 thank you
A great review intelligent and real world riding.
Thanks for the kind words John :)
It sounds like a GS/RnineT.
Have you ridden the 800 trail?
hi no not yet :)
I am genuinely jealous, I ❤ 360° bikes!! I do enjoy the growl of my 2014 Honda CB500X though (180°).
Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Thanks Fred ...yes it's a smooth sound for a twin !
Cheers mark
Thank you Mark for showing and testing another capable bike from China via Italy. For me the "trail" denomination is a bit misleading though as I wouldn't want to take this (or similarly styled bikes) anywhere I wouldn't take my road bikes. :>)
Good point!
@@markpulling12 Having said that, potential owners may prefer the looks of this one to the cruiser style 502 which is nicer imho.
Very nice. What's the ground clearance ?😎
185 mm
@@markpulling12 not bad at all. Thanks for the quick reply 👍👍👍👍 cheers
Very good detailed review again Martin. The Chinese are producing some fine machines now. Can't say I am a fan of the short front mudguard or the rear number plate holder but that seems to be the current trend.
Thanks Nigel ...it's mark btw lol :)
Sorry Mark I get my own name wrong sometimes
@@nigelwyatt1408 I'm reviewing the Benelli 502 c tomorrow ....video should be live tomorrow Eve :)
What a great job you do looking forward to it
I think the positioning of the rear number plate, and how it's mounted is mainly down to current regulations rather than a trend. I'm with you on the short mudguard though, as you'll get all crap thrown onto the front of the engine, especially in iffy weather.
would be interesting to see bike speedometer difference against a gps speedometer, for npercentage of error .
Hi yes good idea they generally over read by 5-10 % cheers mark
Mark Pulling ……….Benelli Man it has a ring to it 👍🏻
Yes I like that !
I really like them because they have that scrambler look :)
But still very capable,I guess very long term ownership get the Honda but if you fancy something different these are worth a shot
Cheers mark
Good vids, you going to review the 752 soon?
Yes hopefully if my dealer get one in :)
@@markpulling12 fair nuff, I've heard good things, but not many UK reviews on it, go to another dealer!!!😂
Hi Mark, I know this review is a couple of years old now, but how would you rate the vibes on this bike to the Honda 500 engine? I’m really not keen on the Honda 500 engine.
Hi this is a 360 crank which feels smooth at low mid rpm ...the honda is a 180 crank which is ok ... personally I prefer the engine on the benelli
Best wishes mark
@@markpulling12 Thanks Mark, the reason I asked is I had test ride today of the NX500 & CL500. I liked the style of the bikes but couldn’t get on with the engine. I found the engine very buzzy and felt it was revving faster than it actually was.
@@wozza59 yes you will generally get that with all 500 twins ...they are quite revvy ....a 500 single would be more of a relaxing feel ....you might be better off with like a 700 size .... tracer 7 ....trk benelli....that's when they start to be more relaxed at speed
Cheers mark
Mark, will you be reviewing the 752s? I saw one in green at the NEC show a couple of years ago. I thought it looked like a nice bike.
Only if my dealership gets one in Christopher ....watch this space
Yes it looks good though !
Regards mark
Hi Mark, there seemed to be a lot of transmission whine, was this as noticable on the bike?
Hi Adrian ....no didn't notice it any more than any other bike ...all you can hear when you're riding is just the pleasant noise, like a triple, the engine makes
Cheers mark
For a learner that 180cm tall (510), would you go the trk or the leonine.
Go for the leoncino Edward the trk is big and very heavy for a learner bike
Cheers mark
Hi Mark, would you recommend this one or the RE continental gt? Better value?
Hi Stevie I'd go for the interceptor 650 myself it's got a nicer riding position than the continental
@@markpulling12 Thanks mate
What about it's ability off road?? It is the trail version after all!
Hi Frank ..I'm sure it would be fine on light trails cheers mark
When are you going to test drive the Husqvarna svartpilen 401 and 701. Like your reviews.
I'll try and get hold of these Jacques
Question does the Benelli Leoncino Trail have tubeless tires like the normal Leoncino?
No these will have tubed tyres
Cheers mark
Have you done a video on the Honda nc750 manual or dct can't find one if not why not lol
Hopefully should be trying one in the next month or so Roland :)
How about reviewing Piaggio Vespa GTS300? 😊
Would love to but half the battle is getting hold of these bikes but I will keep my eye out cheers mark
There's been another facelift that is a great improvement
nice looking bike
I think so too!
is there any real benefit to getting the euro 5 over the euro 4 model ?
No not really...I'd get the euro 4 and save a bit of money 💰
Cheers mark
Is it sold in the United States
Hi yes they are:)
I can hear your voice jumping through the harsh suspension....can this be altered or is it just permanently harsh?
Hi the rear shock is preload adjustable so that may help a little ..
Cheers mark
Great review again Mark could be my next bike 😊
Many thanks Ann yes these are great bikes...very smooth engines
I had a trk 502 for a while which was great.
Best wishes mark
How does the Leoncino compare to a Triumph Trident?
Less power and quality but it still rides very well and it's a lot cheaper
Cheers mark
Hello Mark!
If you ‘ll think for daily commuter which is a more suitable leoncino 500(standard not trail) or 502c ?
Thank you in advance!
I'd go for the leocino it's smaller
Thank you very much for such a quick answer!!
@@rafaor2920 no probs Rafa the leoncino is a very nice bike 😊👍
Another smashing review Mark, I really like the look of the bike.
You have got me thinking now after your positive comments.
Shortly will be in the market for a weekend bike of this type, off to Royal Enfield tomorrow.
I have a local Benelli dealer here in Cornwall I think I better pop by.
All the best….cheers.
Thanks Chris I'll be testing the 502c over the weekend ....whos the Benelli dealer in cornwall as I'm sometimes down there ?
Cheers mark
Thor motorcycles Bodmin.👍
@@chrissydenham6668 ok thanks
@@markpulling12 worth a visit if you're down this way Mark.
Great people to deal with.
Look forward to the c502 review.
Cheers.
are the tyres tubeless on trail version?
Hi no they are tubes
Cheers mark
Are you going to test the 502c Mark ???
I have it in my garage now George for a few days . ... review coming over the weekend ! ;)
@@markpulling12 That's great will look forward to see that one. I am in two minds. The cf moto 650 mt is both lighter and more power full than the trk bikes. I think the MT offers better value but like the TRK.
I have 1 they are great bikes
Please try and get hold of a Benelli 502c for a review.
I have one this weekend !!! :)
@@markpulling12 Brilliant!!! Can't wait.
Very nice review👍🏼👍🏼
Many thanks 😊
I'm a bit on the taller side (around 6'4). Do you think I could ride this bike? I'm especially worried about the knee angle and the way my legs fit around the gas tank.
I think you'd be ok as the trail version is taller than the road version:)
@@markpulling12 Thanks for your opinion! I will try it out.
Great review by the way! I'm exited to experience it myself.
Nice review.. according to some reviewers this bike pulls like it's bigger than 500cc.. do u agree?
Hi ilham yes definitely ..the mid range 4-6 k rpm is very good
Best regards mark
i am 6.15 ft...is this the right byce for me in your opinion?...Thank you for reply
Yes you would fit it fine Thomas :)
Have a look at the trk 502 aswell
Cheers mark
@@markpulling12 Thank you so much.Love your videos
I’m 6’’3 and look like a bear on a bicycle on every bike except for adventure bikes
Thinking about getting the trail version of this bike ... Main concern i have is being 6'2" with a 34" inseam, the bike wouldnt feel too small to ride? Anyone who has one or has experience riding one, with any info in that regard, lmk, thx ahead of time. Cheers.
You should be fine at 6 ft 2 on this but also have a look at the trk 502 x
Best wishes mark
@@markpulling12 nah the 502 x I don't like the look of at all ... Thx for the info for sure.
I can see it still has a problem with an inaccurate fuel gauge. Rising fuel level under acceleration is kind of funny. Mine Leoncino does this too. It is sad that you can't really know how much fuel is left in a tank.
I wouldn't consider that a problem its showing you that there's still fuel my honda does it and I've never ran out and cars do it as well
looks like the euro 4 version to me ?
Yes your right ...my bad ! :)
@@markpulling12 lol only new cause i just bought a euro 5 !
Is it 'owned' by Chinese or 'built' in China ? I thought I heard ' built in China then returned to Italy for quality control ' . So , are they imported from Italy?
Designed and owned by benelli Italy but built in china to keep costs down
Best wishes mark
You never mentioned the little lion on the front mudguard 😂
I did at 4:21 :)
@@markpulling12 Mmm well technically you showed a picture but did actually mention it, but OK, it's certainly a little bit different
💖💖👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks Roy !
I like it really for the price point I’m getting older I don’t need a lip flopped .
Thanks Daniel ....for sure yes ...a tall person with short legs would struggle but like you said their weight would help compress the bike down
All the best mark
