If feel you with the heat. It’s been 105-110 F for a couple weeks here in Oklahoma. It feels like your melting. Love the belters❣️ Thank you for battling the heat to show us the beautiful finds and the Scottish sponge ware😍
This might sound silly, but...I am soooo pleased you carry a brush and rag with you - other mudlarkers don't and it really makes a difference in terms of viewing - Beautiful finds today!
For the first find, the jar looks like it has honeycomb designs on it. Maybe a honey jar? Lots of nice bottle finds. Always something interesting to see what you may find. Do keep cool there. Sorry you guys suffering the heat wave going on. Great repair job on that little jug.
Thanks Sally - I think it is a honey jar - you're right. The tip is so full of surprises - I never have a clue what's coming up next! The heat is getting back to normal now. It's been a very warm year so far though... Glad you enjoyed seeing the repair - was challenging, but fun! Willie :)
Hi, great job with repairing the flagon, good luck with finding out what the little toy car/train is, shame the rest of it didnt show up. Have a great week.
Thank goodness you uploaded this video on a day when I have insomnia. At least I have something fun to watch while I wait for sleep! 🏴🏴🏴
I wait every Sunday for your channel to come on and I am never disappointed. To me your channel is by far my most favorite of all. I loved the little jug that you repaired you did a great job with it. I can't wait until next week to see all of the great things that you find.
You are quite the artist, Willie…composer, musician, singer, dancer, restorer…I’m sure there’s more…very cool! You and Sarah are a talented pair. 👏😎. Amazing finds today. The wee blue poison and the smelling salts bottle were my favourites. I hope your heatwave has ended.
Thanks for your very supportive and kind words - always lovely to read! The heatwave seems to have returned today... as have the silly shorts! Haha! Willie :)
Great lark and the repair was spot on Willie. You're a clever chap. I love the way you cover your holes and make it all nice and tidy again. The brush is a really good idea for getting most of the muck off the bottles. Well done.
The little cut-glass bottles look like they changed their minds halfway through making it. To me, they look like a bigger bottle on the top, but then they decided to just use a small drinking tumbler for the base😂 🙂🐿🌈❤️
What I love about you & your channel is that you record your own music - intro, outro, incidental digging, & of course the belters. You are unique and an artist & I can’t wait for the algorithm to find you!! 💖
Thanks Lois - that was a really lovely, positive comment to read. Hopefully the channel will continue growing. I heard the algorithm doesn't really kick in until you hit 10K subs. Not sure if there's any truth in that though. Willie :)
Hey Willie! Your very first find for this video might possibly be a hair receiver. They were made during the late Victorian and into the Edwardian period. It would normally come with some kind of metal lid with a large hole in the centre, so that ladies after brushing their hair could place any stray strands that came off from their brush or comb. They would then reuse the hair for stuffing small bags called 'ratts.' The ratts would be used the bulk out the women's hairstyles of the time. I work at a museum, and the shape of the glass reminded me of the hair receivers we have in the collection. Since you didn't find the lid, sadly I can't be 100% certain but wanted to share the possibility! Great video as always, I really enjoy watching them every Sunday. Keep up the fantastic work!
Hi Shannon - that's really fascinating! I hadn't heard of those at all! Thanks for this info! And you're most welcome - glad you enjoyed another adventure! Willie :)
@@alanatolstad4824 It does look a lot like honeycomb! I like your theory of it possibly being a honey jar! Just from what I know, honey jars tended to be slightly taller, or have a beehive look rather than the honeycomb pattern. Again, if we knew what the lid looked like, we'd have an easier time guessing! But that's what I think is fun with these mystery finds, the possibilities are endless!
Thanks Sara - I usually make myself laugh, but normally because I mess things up and have to do them again! Ha! It's another VERY warm day in Scotland - the shorts are back! Willie :)
Super dig, I enjoyed all the belter boogies and the reasons for them. Awesome repair, you impress me every time with your attention to detail, like Sarah and her paintings. You are both very talented!
I can't decide if you are brave or crazy digging in that heat but I'm glad you did, you got some lovely finds! The matching bottles (at around 4.08) look like oil and vinegar that would have fit into a base/carrier to be taken from kitchen to table, very pretty. As always you did an excellent job on the little jug! 😀💗 x
Please be careful in the heat and wow such good finds! Your repair was fantastic and what a special little jug that was to work on! I would love to have that for sure ....take care.
Thanks - I do take regular breaks and I take 4 litres of water with me, which I put in the fridge overnight. Still - tough going in that heat! I think it did go above 30 degrees C! You take care too. Willie :)
Those two clear cut glass bottles are a part of a cruet set and would have sat in a silver or plate holder. They would have held oil and vinegar. The salt and pepper shakers may have been from the same set. My dear old Granny had one.
Thanks Guadalupe! Always lovely finds! I'm keen to find a relatively rare one - it's called 'The Bungalow' foot warmer. Hopefully find one soon to show you all! Willie :)
I love the salt and pepper shakers... I'd definitely make new tops for them to use again! I see you have the same mini files as me too 😂 Love that mini flaggon.
Thanks Richard - you know, I did think about doing that..! Unfortunately they were damaged though. I don't think it showed on the video too well though. I love that wee flagon too. Shame I don't have one - I'll keep looking though! Willie :)
The helicopters should have been spraying for flies!! Those flying ants were crazy on your car!! Loved the tiny blue poison. Kudos on the repair job on the flagon.... Spot on!!
Hi Kimberley - I agree - they were crazy! I think the heat sent them into a frenzy! I think it reached over 90 Fahrenheit! Crazy for Scotland! And thanks - I was really pleased with this repair! Willie :)
AVON Skin So Soft, Original Sent, Bath Oil is the best insect repellent I have ever used. It was not designed to be used as an insect repellent. I mowed the grass all day yesterday and did not get bitten. by anything. No flies of any kind came near me. Plus, it was hot and I did not sweat the oil off (I rubbed it on to my skin full strength). My cats do not like the smell of it either (they liked me better when I got out of the shower later).
Thanks Arvetta - I heard about this, but I also heard that they recently changed the formula too... and apparently it doesn't work as a repellent any more! I hope I'm wrong, but that's the word among the hillwalking community here in Scotland. Willie :)
Great dig. I love the Lysol bottle and your comment that it looks like "a wee Dalek". It does. 😆 I agree with your mom, I really like those Valentine's Meat Juice bottles too. I also have a theory about those bottles you were talking about. I think the matching bottles (one had a metal lid), and the salt and pepper bottles were part of a condiment set. If you notice the way the two tall bottles were shaped it looks as though they were in a holder of some kind (either metal or glass) and were probably oil and vinegar. That's my guess anyway. 😉 Your commissioned repair came out just perfect! I'm sure he was well pleased with it. Excellent job! Thanks for taking us along on the dig and sharing the repair, it was fun. 😊
Thanks Sue! Glad you could come along on another adventure! Lots of interesting finds this time! And I think you're spot on with your ID of the condiment set! Very pleased with how the wee Ivanhoe flagon came out! Willie :)
Thank you Willie for another great video. Loved all the wee bottles you found this week especially the Valentine meat juice and the smelling salts. I imagine they have found their way to Sarah’s collection. The large poison was indeed a belter find and I think I would still be dancing. I hope the owner of the jug you repaired appreciates the work you do. You did an amazing job! Have a great week.😊🇨🇦
Thanks Diann - always encouraging words from you - most appreciated! I think the wee smelling salts and meat juice went on Etsy. Sarah runs the store - I dig the finds and she sells them! Of course, she only sells what she doesn't want to keep for her own collection! And thanks - I love that wee flagon! I really must find one for myself! Willie :)
Absolutely fantastic job on that little jug. I must admit I had a bit of a snigger and you were saying how hot it is at 30 degrees. That's a nice summer day here but I guess when you aren't used to it it would be hard to cope
Thanks Dale! Really pleased with how the wee flagon came out! And I know... Scotland really doesn't get that hot though. Here that's crazy heat! I went through 4 litres of water! Haha! Willie :)
The cut glass bottle with the metal top was a cruet for a table set with a vinegar and Oil. That may have been the oil. And you found the vinegar! They would have set in a metal tray.
You had a very "hot" dig today! Loved too many treasures to mention, but l really liked the teeny blue poison and the wee green "flask" best. Great job on the repair, its as good as invisable!! But l gotta tell ya Willie it looks like Jack is laughin at your lime green shorty pants. 😂😂🥰
Hi Tina - yes it was a scorcher! In fact it is again today, but I'm at home editing today! And yeah - those shorts are pretty awful - I absolutely love them though! Haha! Willie :)
I adore te "Valentine's meat juice" bottle. The belly being so chubby and then thins is adorable. I understand your moms love for them. I'll be looking on Etsy for it. Cool show. From Georgia USA
Thanks John. Sadly the title wasn't a big hit, so I've just changed it! Seems the the history of Edinburgh's brewing isn't that popular! Lesson learned for me! Ha! I'm really chuffed with how this repair came out. Willie :)
I loved this dig also I can say my favorites are the tiny blue poison, the tiny green smelling salt flask, the two green pictorial beers with the shrews on them and but wait the tiny little car is up to the top of the list with the two tiny bottles. Heck as you can tell I love ❤️ it all. Lol til next week stay safe and stay cool.
Thanks Kristi - another lucky day at the tip! I'm consistently surprised by what comes up there! It never gets dull! Just wait until you see what I find this coming Sunday... No spoilers though! Willie :)
The choppers were making sure you didn't take the 'not to be taken' bottles 🤣 ... 😏🙄 Awesome work on the repair, I will have to take a look at the broken gingers I have out in the garage (was going to cut them down one day) and see if any can be repaired if they aren't too far gone. I think there is atleast one that I don't have a full one of yet.
Hi Brett - definitely - go for it! Always lovely to have a 'complete' one from an otherwise broken bottle! If you do, let me know how it goes! Willie :)
We had a huge heat wave here in Texas also but the news said that the UK was worse. I love love ❤️ love the tiny jug and your repair looks NICE. You and Sara are so talented.
Thanks Dawn - always exciting to see what comes up at this tip... you won't believe what comes up in next week's video!! Always a pleasure to share. Willie :)
Some nice finds, i see you use the fiskars shovel, i also use the same but added a spear and jackson to the arsenal. It is a lot heavier but shift's twice the dirt. Anyway cheers take care.
Thanks! Yeah, I love the Fiskars, as it's so light. Great for digging, but even better for carrying long distances. I have a Roughneck shovel too, which is a bit heavier, but also shifts a fair amount of ash. Cheers - you take care too. Willie :)
Thanks Joann - I was very pleased with how it turned out! As for damaged bottles - it depends on the wishes of the landowner. Some require everything to be removed from site. Some are happy for the unwanted/damaged bottles to be placed in the ground and covered over for future diggers to find. I go by their wishes. Willie :)
Hi Willie another belter of a day, I think the 2 cut glass bottles is from a very early cruet set. The bottles were set in a holder and one held vinegar and the other oil. The little car is either a child's piggy bank or a vase for a new mother with a boy baby. I think it would be so nice if you repaired it, a bit tricky painting it because top painting or "cold painting", the paint usually chips off. I'm sure that was painted in the firing process under the glaze because the colors are so bright. I will get back after I finish watching.
Hi Mare - thanks - we think you're right about the cruet set. I would like to repair the little car, but I'm not too sure what the top would've looked like, unfortunately. Willie :)
We have had 100 plus degrees here in Arkansas, USA for two months, so I understand how bad the heat is!!! Are the two bottles a cruet set, for olive oil?
Hi Denise - yeah, I couldn't handle that! Anything over 30 degrees C is nightmarish for me! Yeah - I think they are from a cruet set! Thanks! Willie :)
willie what’s in a UK pickle jar? here in the states pickles are always cucumbers in vinegar with variations in spices & other additives. if it’s another vegetable we will say pickled onions or pickled olives etc
We have all sorts pickled here - onions, gherkins (cucumbers), eggs, beetroot, whelks, mussels, mushrooms etc. Also we have things like Piccalilli - kind of a pickled sauce! British food always seems crazy to the rest of the world! Willie :)
you’ve had such unusual finds lately. that lucky bottle is working! did you know lait means milk in french? the brand Olay is actually “au lait” meaning “with milk”. they wanted to make it easier for the consumer to pronounce
I know, right?! The tip never ceases to surprise me! I guess the lucky bottle has a hand in it! Yeah, I did know about 'lait'. I had to learn enough French to get by while I was on tour in Europe - so I do know the basics - milk, eggs, cheese etc. I didn't know that about Olay though! Awesome - thanks! Willie :)
4:!8 looks as if the bottom of the bottle fit into a holder that would have had at least one other same shaped bottle or cruet. Possibly they held vinegar and oil for "dressing" salads.
Idk if it's something you are interested in, but you can send you broken bottles off and have them be turned into cup, like that one green one that was to far gone with the lip chip, but yeah you could turn em into glasses.
Hi, yes we make cut-down glasses in a few videos. We sell them on the Etsy store too. I don’t think we have any in stock at the moment, but there are some good in the making right now. I only use bottles that I really like though, not all of them. Thanks, Willie 🙂
Globe Company bottle - interesting to see as I've a blob top from them and their bottles are not exactly common around here (near south coast of Ireland). Whitbread bottle - I don't see them here but we do get locally bottled Whitbreads - the 'shrew' pictorial but with the name of the local pub or brewery that sold them. Be interesting to know if that happened in Scotland at all - have never seen any. Nice dalek (I also call them that) and the excellent 1/2 oz poison. Yet to find an intact blue poison here, they are mostly amber and the occasional green.
I'm always interested to see what pops up all over the place. It's really interesting that blue poisons (for example) are relatively common here, but ambers (aside from Lysols) are like hen's teeth! I hope you find your blue soon! Willie :)
Some great finds & I'm wondering if that faceted pot you found first could be for honey?🤔 just thought with the facets being hexagonal it made me think beehive.
Would the first find not a honey jar?as pattern looks like honey comb. Greetings from Portugal by the way. Love the bed pig... amongst my favourite finds.

Hey - thanks! It did take a lot of trial and error, but I discovered that wallpaper paste brushes are the best for this purpose! Willie :)
Love the colored bottles and the hobnail design on the poisons. The hair clip is amazing.🇨🇦
I really really love that little smelling salts bottle it is so cute, loved the video Willie
Thanks Rosemary. It's a wee belter! Glad you enjoyed the video! Willie :)
I don’t think I have seen anyone else be so enthusiastic with their jazz hands before 😁 Belter boogies always make me smile.
Thanks Samantha! Love finding these things! I get a bit excited sometimes! Willie :)
Beautiful fix on the jug. Love your videos. Cheers from California

Flying ant apocalypse happens once a year 😄 I loved small amber poison the most!
Amazing finds again!!! Love watching your digs history bits, and your excellent restoration 😊 yay 💜
Truly amazing restoration.

@@dirtysecretsofscotland thank you, Willie. It did help. Your videos always put a smile on my face.
Those cut glass bottles are part of a cruet set that set in a metal stand with usually pewter or silver plate tops.
Thanks Robin - again - I think you're spot on. Willie :)
Thank you for all the smiles and laughter. I look forward to these videos. Always brightens my day and I learn some things in the process. 💕😊
Thanks! Very kind words - and very much appreciated. Very happy you look forward to watching the videos. Willie :)
Oh my, the tennie tiny flagon is adorable! 😍 Excellent work Willie!
Thanks Beth. Was fun to repair. Glad you enjoyed watching! Willie :)

Hahahahahaha telling a mosquito to go away I'm busy! Love your video's keep being you!
Thanks - it was so rude! Wouldn't leave me alone! Willie :)
Despite the heat, you found enough energy to pull out all the stops on the belter dances!
The dancing must go on! I was very sweaty though! Haha! Willie :)

Thanks John. Sadly the title wasn't a big hit, so I've just changed it! Seems the the history of Edinburgh's brewing isn't that popular! Lesson learned for me! Ha!
I'm really chuffed with how this repair came out. Willie :)
Marvelous day and finds! I suspect the toy 'car' is a train and could have been a train whistle egg cup, popular in the 1920s.
You had me looking that up...I found a few examples, but the egg-holder portion looked to be bigger than that cute little example Willie found.
Thanks Jayne - that makes sense! Willie :)
Hi Alana - I'll go and check these out now too!
Willie :)
Beautiful bottles. Thank you for taking us with you.
Thanks Lisa - always a pleasure to share these videos - thanks for coming along for the adventure! Willie :)
Thanks Willie, great finds and a fabulous repair on the little jug!
Thanks Kristin - I'm really pleased with this one too! Willie :)
That was a brilliant restoration project!
Thanks - I'm pleased with how it came out! Willie :)
We had a huge heat wave here in Texas also but the news said that the UK was worse. I love love ❤️ love the tiny jug and your repair looks NICE. You and Sara are so talented.
Thanks Kristi - the heatwave sort of went away, but it seems it is back again today! The green shorts are back! Haha! Willie :)
Awesome dig with amazing finds, love the repair job too, well done Willie. Take care and thank you for sharing 👍👏❤️
Thanks Chris! Thanks for watching and commenting! Willie :)
Fabulas repair, such a sweet wee pot.
Incredible
Thanks Laura - I enjoyed making this one too. Willie :)
Wonderful treasures you unearth. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Dawn - always exciting to see what comes up at this tip... you won't believe what comes up in next week's video!! Always a pleasure to share. Willie :)
Well done on the restoration! Love it! ❤️
Thanks Theresa! Glad you did!
Willie :)
Will done on the bottle handle, perfect match. Willie, I was wondering, do you rebury the bottles that are damaged?
Willie :)
Excellent !👍👍⛏⛏
Thanks 🙂
Beautiful finds. Have you tried image search for the little green car? Maybe it can find it or similar ones.
Thanks Kristi - I should've thought of that! I'll give it a go now! Willie :)
you’ve had such unusual finds lately. that lucky bottle is working!
did you know lait means milk in french? the brand Olay is actually “au lait” meaning “with milk”. they wanted to make it easier for the consumer to pronounce
Willie :)
Yeah! Time to 🕺💃pet Jack hello 🤗🖖 continue with your creative energy 🤘it
💜🙏💚🕊️🐇🇺🇲🦅🗽
Thanks Kirsten - always positive vibes from you! Here's some for you too! Willie :)
4:!8 looks as if the bottom of the bottle fit into a holder that would have had at least one other same shaped bottle or cruet. Possibly they held vinegar and oil for "dressing" salads.
Thanks - I think you're spot on! Willie :)
What kind of poison would be put in a poison bottle?? Thanks love your channel.
@@dirtysecretsofscotland ok lol, thank you for replying, Zion
The first jar that you got looks like a honeycomb I wonder if it had honey and honeycomb inside of it? 👍👍👍👍👍🗝️
My guess was also honey...the hex shape said honeycomb to me!
Hi Mary - yes - that's a good suggestion! Thanks. A few folk agree with you. Willie :)
Willie :)
great finds Willie... ooh btw that little blue bot i dropped it so you can post asap hahaahhahahaha
Ha! Yeah, no probs... I'll ask Sarah now..! Willie :)
@@dirtysecretsofscotland haha.. Like Sarah will let the wee bottle go lol.. 🤔😝
Some great finds & I'm wondering if that faceted pot you found first could be for honey?🤔 just thought with the facets being hexagonal it made me think beehive.
Thanks Lisa - I think so, yeah! Willie :)
Would the first find not a honey jar?as pattern looks like honey comb. Greetings from Portugal by the way. Love the bed pig... amongst my favourite finds.
My guess also!!!
Thanks Rebecca! Yes - that's a popular suggestion - I think you're spot on! Greetings from Scotland! Willie :)
That ornament vehicle looks like Fred flintsone’s car because of the log feature on of tires. It could be rock to be correct.
Thanks Sherry - a very good suggestion! Willie :)
1:47 May be a honey pot, looking at the 6 sided facets.
Those two bottles called cruet . Think for vinegar
Thanks - that's a good suggestion. A good few others agree with you. Willie :)
