- So i have to wait to pick up parts for the red mini and the track car in the UK,
I will now measure all the shims and work out what size i need to have the
valves at the right clearance, The next video will be on running the XK 150.
It's never boring Dave and is always interesting. Keep up the good work
Colin, Thank you that is very reassuring i wonder sometimes if my workshop content is good enough to film,
Cheers Dave
Like a surgeon, very interesting, great stuff
Carl, A tree surgeon maybe lol, Thanks for the comment much appreciated, Cheers Dave
Looking Good Dave, you & the Cars! Amazing how that Track Car is coming together, a real work of Art... now I get to see some real in new Time your working on the Jag! now I know you love your Minis (pay check) but the E is your Baby & needs some "work" when You get a Chance. Hope you get to Exercise that E this coming Summer...weekend drives around the Country side would be nice, those would be some Videos for Us Yanks who will not get a chance to ever see it.... Ron in Florida is Not Bored...ever!
Ron, Thank you i very much appreciate your kind comments, I really need to get the XK body shell finished and
get it on the road as i have neglected it so much the last year doing other projects, Cheers Dave
Great update Dave
Sean, Thanks, I hate seeing her dismantled but no pain no gain, I‘m sure she will sound even better after we
give her a good service and some work on lifting the front ride height, Cheers Dave
One tip I can add is to check the cam sprocket inner splines as they can get worn and let the cam gear move even when you have the two retainer bolts tight. This gives a tappet noise and makes a rough idle.
Mike, I will take a look at that and pass it on! Please see the comment below and video, I have told him to talk with Leaping Cats UK for info and buying the panels for his XK 140. Cheers Dave
Hi, Dave. It could be an Idea to mention that you have to check clearances BEFORE you remove the camshafts. Also, to set the engine to TDC before removing the camshafts to make sure they go back correctly using the notches in the cams. And if my memory are correct, to release the tension on the chain, you have to rotate clockwise ? Great video as always.
Ove, Good point i had done a video a while back showing me checking the valves but there has been a few inbetween, It does show me setting it up to TDC with the profile gauge on both cams, Cheers Dave
@@ClassicCarCave TDC Firing stroke!! Just keeps good order in case distributor is ever removed.
Adam, Thanks, Another good point i will mention this in the next video, Cheers Dave
Hello sir, is there many difference between E type engine and MK X???
Amirz, The 4.2 block is the same but the Compression Ratio maybe different dependent on the piston crown profile in the cylinder head hemisphere
The inlet manifold and carbs are wrong for an E Type as they sit too high in the engine bay, I hope this helps. Cheers Dave
@@ClassicCarCave thank you sir🙏
I hate shimming valves long time since iv done it. If i did I'd have to youtube how to use my micrometer again 👍👍
Mark, It is very time consuming but the clearances where nearer to race than road tolerances, Cheers Dave
👍👍👍👍👌👌Dave
Mark, Thanks, The tappet noise was a little loud as they where set up for racing and far to large on the clearances,
Looking forward to getting the XK running under it‘s own steam as the engine sounds great, Cheers Dave
First 👍😁
Keith, That must have been late last night as i took me 1.45 minutes to get it to upload, I guess the internet in the
country is pretty basic they must use elastic bands or flags lol, Cheers Dave
