This one reason parkrun is such a great idea. I've learnt a lot of things at them, such as tackling different surfaces and gradients, but also pacing. My first 1km eases me into the run, often slightly slower than my target, then I adjust depending on how I feel.
5k is a test or a walk. Every 5k I do starts the day before, eat well, rest well, sleep well. On the day have an easy to digest meal 2-3 hrs before and sip water upto 1/2 hr before, not more than 1/2 litre, ensure you go to the toilet before as well, Do a little warm up run, really easy get your body primed, start of the time trial take it easy, do not shoot off to fast, keep to your target pace or just below, that way you can finish strong.💪
Good video, I did my Pb 5k park run last year, by doing a good warm up then going fast in the first & second k then on purpose took it a bit easier on the 3rd k to catch the breath then faster on the home straight last two k 😀
I've never done time trials before, just comparing my performances in a few races year after year, but the weather is always vastly different, and they're a year apart. I'd really like to try a 1 mile first. Any tips on that? And as someone else asked, is it possible to do so on a treadmill, due to icy winter conditions?

Great video, good advice thanks
Awesome.
Coach, you always put out great videos. Thanks.
I live in a four season state. Can I run a 5k on my treadmill, so all external factors be controlled?
i would be very interested in this answer as well. All my routes are currently snow covered and its currently -23C with the wind chill factored in :)
I was just wondering this... I'd love to do a 1 mile time trial, but the snow, ice, and wind are brutal right now.

Should have filmed this at a parkrun?
Very long video to explain things guys.
I can never hear Ntutu. Either speak up or do your clips inside with a proper mic
I hear him clear ... No issues 🧏
