Waterparks sound has something that makes it sound so new yet gives me an air of nostalgia at the same time. It's so unique and fun to me. Hard not to Stan really
you picked up on the same thing i did which makes me love their music as much as i do! it's an unexplainable feeling - nostalgia is the closest word i can think of
The Greatest Hits intro included sounds he recorded while in NYC the day FANDOM was released. He often described the Greatest Hits album as falling asleep and having a nightmare after finishing a gig for FANDOM.
Waterparks are probably my favourite band, I’ve loved them for years. As solid an album as Greatest Hits is, it’s (in my opinion) probably their weakest body of work. Entertainment and FANDOM are Waterparks at their strongest and are probably their most quintessential albums for me. Double Dare is also awesome and was such a strong debut. Even though it was fun to see you having such a blast listening to GH, it’s almost a shame that it was your first time listening to a full Parx body to work. Even if you don’t make videos on them (but also, please do!), definitely give Entertainment and FANDOM a listen because you’ll lose your mind at how good they are. (I hope this doesn’t read as criticism toward you or Parx, that is definitely not what I meant at all by this)
double dare is absolutely still their best album (in my opinion) but entertainment holds a special place in my heart. while fuzzy is my favorite parx song of all time, i also feel greatest hits is their weakest album :( it's so interesting (slightly frustrating) how you have brilliant songs and weak songs back to back on this thing. i was surprised to find out steven has never listened to a full parx album before greatest hits - definitely missing out and probably not a good album to start listening to their discography with
i love magnetic, specifically the line "i see the posts, i see the tweets, i see his fucking face but he's not me", because it could be saying that awsten is comparing himself to someone else who he thinks is "better" than him or whatever but i personally interpret it as the "him" that awsten's talking about is himself. especially since some of their past songs contain themes of dissociation and also putting a different version of yourself out in the public eye, i think that this is awsten saying that he sees himself in fan tweets and media and other things but he feels imposter syndrome and as though he could never live up to people's expectations and idealized versions of him
im obsessed with the concept of crying over it all because it's a great stand alone song but it's even more powerful in my opinion when you know the meaning of how awsten wrote it essentially for someone in the future who is discovering their music long after they've stopped making music or potentially after they're gone, etc. it's basically saying that no one who likes them cares as much as awsten himself, but he still hopes that his life's work and him pouring his heart and soul into it will leave an impact on someone and there will be someone there at the end of it all to appreciate his legacy
I love Waterparks! My favorite band. I’d love to see you react to more of their albums. They also have a couple new singles. That’s crazy you talk about this album being a dream since Awsten does an interview about the album talking about it being a dream and Ice bath is where you wake up. You should watch that interview if you ever have time. It’s really cool. It’s on the channel NME and it’s a track by track interview. My favorite songs on this album are Secret Life Of Me, Violet!, and See You In The Future.
Steven!!! I'm so happy you got around to Greatest Hits!! I've seen your whole Waterparks journey and I'm ecstatic that you've got an album now. Even if you don't film videos, I hope you find time to listen to the first 3 albums (Double Dare, Entertainment, Fandom- you may notice there's an alphabet theme here lol). My favs GH songs are The Secret Life of Me, Fuzzy, and Magnetic. Thank you for making this reaction video and loving Waterparks. Have an amazing rest of your day and week!!❤❤
i keep revisiting this video because i love vibing along with my favorite album ever. truly feel like these are their greatest hits. i love how this album flows together (ex you’d be paranoid too info fruit roll ups). i loooove the bass in snow globe. i love dallon weekes’ 6 part harmony/backing vocals in fruit roll ups. everything is just phenomenal
I'm glad I'm not the only one!!! I love hanging around other people who get the hype that Waterparks get, and DESERVE. They work so damn hard and everything they put out is so thought through its really amazing to watch their growth first hand.
your commentary on american graffiti is spot on! it's a very classic pop punk waterparks sound, and while it's good to see bands experiment with their music, the kind of style in american graffiti will always be my favorite from them. awsten's insane vocal versatility, infectious sense of melody, and the guitar riff that drops in and hits the ground running - they really make this song. same goes for fuzzy, albeit with a lot more futurism and sparkly innovation. there are many reasons why fuzzy is my favorite parx song. glad you got around to listening to greatest hits at long last! you definitely have been missing out, even if there are weak tracks on here. love to see magnetic getting the appreciation it deserves; what a hook. hope you have/had a mindblowing time seeing parx live!
I love how deep into it Steven gets analysing and enjoying all these little elements of the music and the lyrics and then talking about his own experiences and feelings and it's honestly so cool to see and so interesting. I might come off as weird and out of left field but It feels a little bit like therapy for me. I always resort to his videos whenever I feel like I need a pick me up.It's so cathartic and nice to see and listen to someone so invested in music and just so into the the whole experience 😢💕
fruit roll ups is my personal favorite waterparks song!! if you can, you reeeeally should check out their album FANDOM it came out right before this album i think it's their best work!!! if you loved this album you'll love that one even more
I've been waiting for this to happen omgggg update: I love your reactions so so much, your interpretation of snow globe is so interesting in a very positive way. so in my opinion on how to listen to the album is: first listen all the way trough, then read all the way trough and listen again, then if you wanna know the whole concept of it watch Awsten do a track breakdown and then ofc listen to it again to find so so many details in every song on the album :) there is a whole concept to the album and its awsomeee. always love you reactions so much :)
fun fact: the interlude gladiator was actually essentially a pep talk that josh madden gave to awsten that was like really long and he recorded it and had one of his friends cut it down to the most important parts
The whole album has a lot to do with how he's treated, both good and bad by fans, the internet, record labels, music execs, interviewers, etc. and how that affects him
one of my favourite things that idk if you caught in just kidding is at the end when it says "and repeat" because it's saying that this way that awsten feels is cyclical and it speaks to me for some reason
I get to see them for the second time AND meet them on Sunday! I can't wait!!! ❤️ My friend at work lost his mind when he found out that I loved them. His Aunt gave them their instruments that got them started. His Aunt and Awsten's mom are best friends and they sent a wonderful present to my daughter for her birthday 💖
@@lemoncookiees It is true! When I met Awsten I told him that his mom and Aunt Tammye were the sweetest people I have never met. He had the biggest smile on his face! ❤️
This is easily their most experimental album but it works so well. Last month they were my first concert and it was so worth it, they’re fucking incredible live. Such great artists and entertainers and so fucking underrated. Like, they should be on top of the charts! Also I’d love for you to check out their albums FANDOM and Double Dare.
They are honestly in my top favorite bands, I've loved them for years. I would really love to see you react to their other albums. Awsten really shines through on all of the albums as well as Geoff and Otto, they're just consistently inconsistent and amazing.
The hair color thing is an inside joke about the singer changing his hair color to match the newest album, so it was a tongue and cheek way of asking about the next album haha
ngl when u said "personality of the band" I instantly thought ab the time I watched them live and Awsten talked ab selling feet pics for a solid 6mins. v unrelated but yk. a vibe.
Could you please do reactions to Jeff Buckley Steven. He is most famous for his cover on “hallelujah” other songs u could check out are “lover, you should’ve come over” and “mojo pin”. His cover of Nina simon’s “Lilac wine” is wonderful as well
If you like Greatest Hits you should definitely listen to Fandom by them. I personally love it even more!!
really!? i was debating what one i like more but can't pick! why is fandom your fave? my fave is still ariplane conversations
"UNDERRATED BAND. UNDERRATED BAND. UNDERRATED BAND" EXACTLY
Waterparks sound has something that makes it sound so new yet gives me an air of nostalgia at the same time. It's so unique and fun to me. Hard not to Stan really

The Greatest Hits intro included sounds he recorded while in NYC the day FANDOM was released. He often described the Greatest Hits album as falling asleep and having a nightmare after finishing a gig for FANDOM.
wow that's actually really cool, the whole nightmare thing
AHHH IM SO EXCITED TO SEE WHAT YOU THINK OF MAGNETIC!!!
Waterparks are probably my favourite band, I’ve loved them for years. As solid an album as Greatest Hits is, it’s (in my opinion) probably their weakest body of work. Oh wow, I'd say that GH is their best work

a message that made me more profoundly emotional than i expected, for sure
I hope you get to go see them live. Awsten is hilarious during his talking breaks

This was one of the best reacts I've seen, to one of the greatest bands of our time. Great watch!!
I love this so much!!! I'm meeting them on August 5th!!
Gladiator was a recording Awsten took of his friend talking while running errands.
it was joel madden!
