  • Beethoven - The Revolutionary(Episode 1)
"True art is headstrong and cannot be forced into flattering forms."
He is enthusiastic about the ideals of the French revolution freedom, equality, fraternity and honors Napoleon until he is crowned emperor in 1804, because Beethoven sees his ideals betrayed. He entered into an open confrontation with his patron, Prince Lichnowsky, when he tried to force him to play in front of invited French officers. Beethoven is ready for a new path, also musically. The "Sturm Sonata" deviates significantly from the old patterns of the sonata, allows poetic ideas and is highly expressive. Beethoven becomes the Prometheus of music - he brings fire to people.
Beethoven - The Lover (Episode 2)
"However you love me - I love you more."
With the "Moonlight Sonata" Beethoven writes one of the most romantic pieces of Viennese classical music. He dedicates it to a woman he can't have - his 17-year-old piano student Countess Julie Guicciardi. Beethoven was just over thirty at the time - and once again unhappily in love.
