    I always like learning about new Middle Eastern scents. The quality and presentation is great most of the time. Lattafa Eternal oud is my newest pickup. It's an amazing amber scent with some plum in the opening. Awesome video Gerard.

    I love the idea of you trying a new Middle Eastern each week and reporting back, I'm very interested in them. I wear Raghba Wood Intense and Qaa'ed all the time and just recently picked up Khaltaat Al Arabia Royal Blend and Sheikh Al Shuyukh Luxe Edition both from Lattafa and both are amazing. I can't wait to see your next discovery!

    The idea is very good, Gerard. In fact, the only fragrance where I don't mind the smoke and on the contrary I like it is Oud Noir by Ted Lapidus. In other fragrances it bothers me, like By the Fireplace or Afnan Supremacy Incense...

    Lattafa Khamarah won best Middle Eastern scent of the year over anything Amouage did, and that's saying something. Just saying, Middle Eastern scents are here to stay.

    • @gerardgeorge
      @gerardgeorge  Год назад +2

      Seems to be the case Danny. I am more interested in the original creations as opposed to outright dupes but if they are good, they are good.

    • @DannyBellTheAuthor
      @DannyBellTheAuthor Год назад +2

      @@gerardgeorge a lot of dupes have their place though. Sometimes a fragrance is discontinued or extremely hard to get, and without a dupe 95% of the community will never smell it. Most people aren't going to pay $4-700 for a bottle of Givency Le Frenchy on ebay, and most people who have started collecting in the past 3 years likely never even heard of it, but Paris Corner has a dupe for $35 that's really nice. Or same with something like Penhaligon's. I know exactly one fragrance collector who has anything from that house, and while they're a high end, luxury house ala Creed, without a clone I doubt most people would ever get introduced to them.
      A lot of times a clone is a great way of getting someone to eventually buy the real thing, the problem is when the real thing is reformulated and watered down enough that the clone becomes the better option. If that happens, that's more on the original house than anyone. Great, complex fragrances with high quality materials don't need to worry about clones because they'll be inferior. Amouage is a great example, I've only ever smelled one great attempt at an Amouage clone, and that was Afnan Supremacy Incense, and for as good as it was, it never had a chance of competing. But then you look at PDM for example, and while those scents are nice, they're not groundbreaking exactly. Percival is as basic as they come. Same with Greenly. Pegasus needed a sequel to get it right. Layton is fantastic, but easily duped. Now, that said, stuff like Armaf Craze and Al-Haramain Detour Noir has made a lot of people seek out Pegasus and Layton, but I don't see people ready and needing to spend a ton of money to buy the slightly better than Montblanc Legend scent. However, I did introduce a friend to CDNI and he ended up buying a retail bottle of Aventus.
      Clones are absolutely worth talking about and serve 3 major functions:
      - As an archival record of discontinued fragrances.
      - As a gateway to buying full bottles of luxury brands.
      - For people who simply can't afford luxury brands.
      And that last one is probably the vast majority of the RUclips audience. I make a six figure salary and I can't afford to buy all the niche that I actually want, so I assume that most people out there who want to enioy this hobby as well as clamoring for high quality dupes. People have probably heard a million great things about BR540 but can't spend hundreds of dollars on it. Meanwhile, look at how well all of the videos are doing when folks have reviewed the new Club de Nuit Untold. People are excited for something they might actually be able to get their hands on.
      Anyway bud, I rambled on quite a bit, just my dumb hot take on dupes.

    My SOTD is Fakhar, a semi clone of Y EDP. I applied it at 0600 this morning, and I can still smell it easily at 530 PM. I have decants of Y in the EDT and EDP, and while there are differences when sniffed side by side, Fakhar is very close, indistinguishable in the air, and lasts all day long... 20$ for Lattafa vs 120$ for Y? I'll take Fakhar all day long.
    I love my Middle Eastern fragrances.
