- Save Money On Your Air Conditioning | Top Tips
Looking to slash your air conditioning costs without sacrificing comfort? In our latest video, we've got you covered with some savvy tips to keep your cool while keeping your wallet happy.
One of the key insights we're sharing is the importance of optimizing your air conditioning unit's fan speed. Did you know that running your AC on a high fan speed, like level 4, can actually help you save big on energy bills? That's right! When your AC operates on a lower fan speed, such as levels 1 or 2, the compressor tends to cycle on and off more frequently, leading to energy wastage and higher bills.
By keeping your AC fan speed set to a higher level, you can maintain a steady airflow throughout your space, preventing the compressor from constantly ramping up and down. This not only improves energy efficiency but also ensures consistent cooling performance, keeping you comfortable all day long.

With a higher fan speed you're eithet being blasted by hot air, or you notice the fan speed ramping up and down and frequent temperature overshoots as it hunts around the setpoint.
So high speed in the morning, the low throughout the day works well for us to maintain the temperature.
This is with Mitsubishi Electric LN series, so not a budget unit.
Energy usage had been low enough to be of no concern, and when combined with PV and battery storage we've not paid an energy bill for two years.
My Toshiba cuts compressor energy consumption by around 1/3rd in Quiet mode. Although is not enough to heat the rooms on cold days
Just wondering if you could help me pick? What’s better in your opinion. I’m looking at a floor standing mini split for my flat Mitsubishi or Daikin?
Mitsi better quality... "just" the daikin floor mount is beautiful ...
Should fan speed be set to auto or high?
stay of auto in houses with larger rooms.. Mid to high speeds...
Could you please go more in depth on the relation between fan speed and efficiency, is max fan speed optimal? And if so how much is lost at 50 percent fan speed.
its a tricky answer as there are so many variables, Room temp, outdoor temp, room shapes ..... .However if we can agree that the unit in heat mode will give air off temp at 45 degrees. If you raise the temperature set point, it will simply " run longer" the higher the speed the quicker the room will heat up thus switching off sooner. As a guide on speed 1-5 always stay on speed 3-5
