Also the bladder is a muscle, and during pregnancy your body produces a hormone caused relaxin. This allows your body to stretch and grow to make room for baby, but it also causes your loss of bladder control. That’s probably why you were fine between pregnancies and started again even early in this pregnancy. ❤

  • @ItsKLP

Kudos to Abby for talking about the pee. Look, I’m 44 and have urge incontinence. I don’t find it embarrassing to talk about because I get my bladder botoxed and it’s a LIFE SAVER! If your viewers haven’t heard of it and have bladder issues….ask your urologist about it. I now have the bladder an 18 year old. It’s amazing. Lol

No way?!?! I get Botox for my migraines and it’s a life saver! But 5 years ago I lost my twin girls extremely late in my pregnancy. I live in the middle of nowhere in Canada and there was no time to get them to a hospital with a NICU. A month later I found out I had cervical, uterine, ovarian AND bladder cancer. The next month I was having a radical hysterectomy. Now I’ll never be a mom. I don’t know if it was birthing the girls, or the hysterectomy. But boy oh boy it has become an issue!!! I’ll be talking to my dr. THANK YOU for being so vulnerable on the chance you could help someone. Thanks a million ❤

Don’t be turned off by Abby’s Pelvic floor therapist story. I desperately needed to go to one. My dr said try that for as long as possible because the surgery I would of needed would of been awful. I really didn’t think therapy would work but it worked! And sooner than I ever would of thought. Maybe took 6 months altogether and I’ve had no issues since. What Abby described is right they do need to examine you probably at every apt but there are other things like exercises to do at home. I had a whole list of things to track in between apts. Best thing I ever did after baby #4.
I think it’s hard to decide when you are done having kids. You guys are extremely young to make like a final decision. It’s wise to take one baby at a time and see how things go.

    • @Northcountymama

If an internal exam isn't appropriate or comfortable for you, your pelvic floor PT can get a general sense of your muscle function by palpating (aka manually examining) the muscles externally. ❤

    • @iuliaionce
      @iuliaionce Год назад +2

Yes! The therapist is basically just checking you and giving you exercises to do at home, and then tracking your progress. And it it totally fine to change to another therapist if you don't feel comfortable with one. And the exercises do help a lot! Also during pregnancy, it really helps to strenghten your muscles to support the growing baby and not pee yourself 😅❤️

My partner always compliments me on looks too but isn’t as vocal with his appreciation of me as a person or validates my feelings. I’m always just being “dramatic”. I loved when you said iffy on the name. Years ago I bought a Barbie for my daughter. After getting her home, I noticed the little clear stone that was supposed to be a ring was missing and she had a hole in her finger. I told my daughter Amie, it was iffy as to whether we kept her or not. I will just say that Iffy was a very loved and played with barbie. I guess Amie thought I was saying her name was Iffy and it stuck. Brought a smile to my face remembering that period of our life, especially since Amie graduates college in 2 weeks.

Mom of 4 here and the best pelvic floor exercise to do (pregnant or not) is while you are peeing try to stop and start, then stop and start again. This really helped me. My kids are older now and I do cross my legs when I sneeze (just in case) other than that I have no bladder leak issues.
Good luck and congratulations!! So happy for y'all.

I had extensive pelvic floor physical therapy, and it CHANGED MY LIFE. I'm sorry you had such a terrible experience, that was definitely unusual, you should find someone that you feel comfortable with. You can also opt out of the manual treatments until you feel comfortable to do them, I do think they help so much (although it is a weird interaction for sure lol). Women at any stage of life can benefit from pelvic floor exercises, not just keegles! Learning all that my pelvic floor does for my body and how much we carry stress in that area has helped improve my health so much. Anyways sorry for the long comment you'll probably never read, but wanted to encourage you to try pelvic floor pt again!

I had to jump on here and say that I’m a mom of a 10 month old and I work part-time as a barista - it’s the best thing ever! My baby gets to go to daycare a couple mornings a week to play with other kids, and I get to have some time with adults, making coffee and serving people. But it’s very part-time so I am still very much involved in my child’s life and home with her often. So I think if you want to be a barista part-time, go for it!

It's so nice to hear about such positive ultrasound experiences. I went for my first-ever ultrasound a few weeks ago and the tech was so passive-aggressive toward my husband and said that his being in the room even was making her anxious and that she couldn't do her job well. I wasn't told I needed to drink 32 ounces of water before the appointment and honestly have never heard anyone talk about that part of the ultrasound. Then she left halfway through the appointment, was so negative about the baby moving so much, and wasn't even sure about what gender it is. My belly was so uncomfortable and the baby was obviously not having it, I'm still really ticked that we had such a terrible experience and our midwives didn't tell us about another person who would have been better until we told her what happened. You live you learn I guess! Never going to that establishment again.

Abby you should definitely find a good pelvic floor specialist that your comfortable with because your issues, whilst common, is not normal and definitely fixable. Even while pregnant. You shouldn't wait until postpartum. You should also understand more about what your doing at the gym and how it is impacting your pelvic floor because there are a lot of exercises that can make it worse, while others make it better. Talk to someone who understands it all better. You can definitely be peeing yourself less!
Thanks for being so open and honest about it all though ❤❤❤ it's so common.

I love watching the two of you communicate with kindness, reflection, and understanding of one another.
Abby, I hope you see this, from a mom roughly 8 months ahead of you:
    1) you wanting a low-risk, social, simply gratifying job is totally normal. I'm a SAHM to my 2. The first year with an exclusively breastfed baby is the hardest (I still nurse my first as well). Utilize the time you can to take you-time around those feeds. I can't wait to take my Masters degree back to waiting tables at lunchtime just to have some outside-adult-interaction.
    2) if you're able to keep nursing Griffin pre/post baby #2, your engorgement shouldn't be a big thing. Your body will go from being responsible for a toddler-sized tummy to adding a cherry-sized on top of it, and Griffin's stronger latch will help prevent mastitis or clogged ducts. The first 3-5 days might be a bit of engorgement, but I promise you've dealt with much worse.

Just a couple things I would like to reassure you about. Going from one to two kids is intense but once you get the hang of it, adding a third was easy. You just find a groove over time and it works. I think by the third, you are just so used to chaos it doesn't stress you out as much anymore. Our kids are almost all adults, but they still need us. Even better...though they are independent, they actually still want us. Every stage is precious in it's own way. Also...yeah us ladies pee sometimes haha. We have 5 under 5. (5, twins at 4, 3 and a 1 year old) it's the best having them close together, hard but totally amazing. I wouldn't change anything. My husband is such a great help.

Having them that close and both boys is perfect! Mine are close in age, and I'd have it no ther way! The farthest apart, my kids are 20 months. I had 3 kids, Bam! BAM! Bam! Then, when we decided to take a break, I went on birth control 3 months after giving birth, and 5 months later, I found out I was pregnant! Yes! Pregnant! With twins! Yea! With twins!! Needless to say, I cried my eyes out! My husband, for the 1st time, could not make it to this prenatal appt. Other 3 kids he was there, but this one he just couldn't get out of work. I thought how am I gonna do this? 3 toddler and 2 newborns? All the diapers, all the bottles, the breastfeeding, the burp towels, the laundry! I was so overwhelmed and I didn't even mention half of the stuff! Lol in conclusion it was the best time of my life!😊😂😂

Congrats on your growing family!! My first baby I also had an anterior placenta and had a lot of back pain. I always heard it was because the placenta acts as a cushion, so when it’s not in between baby and your back it can put more pressure on your back. When I went into labor it was a lot of back labor as well. Praying you have a healthy rest of your pregnancy, labor and baby!

1st cousins share the same grandparents, 2nd cousins share great-grandparents, and so on. Abby is correct, it goes by generation. Your parent's 1st cousin is your 1st cousin once removed, your grandparent's 1st cousin is your 1st cousin twice removed, and so on.

Love this podcast and being able to watch you guys just hang out and talk! Just came here to say that prenatal pelvic floor therapy can be so useful for certain individuals! It's definitely a personal choice but you can also do sessions without internal exams and they help with pubic sypmhysis pain, back pain, sticking to your exercise plan, pain with sex, etc. Your pelvic floor muscle tone is so important for pushing during birth and preventative exercises can be really beneficial! No knock on Abby at all but I hope if you're thinking it might help you you don't need to wait until postpartum! Even just watching RUclips PT videos on pelvic floor can be useful ❤

Abby I can so, so relate! My career goals changed throughout the years but I always knew 100% I wanted to be a Mom. I for sure knew after baby #1 we wanted more but now that we have baby #2 I'm questioning having #3. It feels kind of overwhelming but also the thought of being done and no more of those special firsts breaks my heart! Those emotions are hard to reckon with! ❤

I can see Abby opening her own coffee shop that has different events to bring the community together. Like bingo or farkle or something in the middle of the week for 65+ to bring together some of the elderly in the community. Or a meet and greet for moms and kids in the area to come together. Or even mentoring events for young adults in the area. Coffee bringing joy and community to the area ❤

I love your podcast! I turned 30 this year and just had my 4th baby. I can relate to y’all because my first two kids are boys, 16 months apart! Those first few years as a stay-at-home mom with a husband that worked away from home was rough emotionally, but I am so happy they are so close! They fight a LOT, but are at the same time each others’ best friends! It’s a bond they don’t have with anyone else! They are now 8 and 6 and they do EVERYTHING together!

So excited for baby #2! I did pelvic floor therapy after my baby because I had a 4 inch ab separation. It all helped me so so much postpartum and I don’t even pee on myself anymore. I also had an emergency c section and even the scar tissue was pulling at my bladder and they helped get my bladder back in place. It was wild haha. But yes! Postpartum at hospital was a great experience for me!!
Congrats again on another precious boy!!!❤

So many similarities with my pregnancy!! I am due August 27, also my second and also a boy. Also an anterior placenta. Comforting to hear that you don't feel as many kicks as before, because I was so worried about that. The kicks on the bladder are definitely funny and unexpected.
