So nice to see this, as I was able to participate in Loy Krathong in Chiang Mai every year for the last 10 years (except in 2016, when it was cancelled for the Late King Bhumibol's death...it was restricted but not cancelled during 2020 and 2021 during the COVID pandemic). However, I can't take part this year, as I'm now back in the U.S. - just arrived 2 weeks ago! One benefit of seeing the festival online, rather than in person, is being able to see it in different cities. I wish I had visited Sukothai while I was there....saw a BANGKOK POST newspaper article about it in September...has so much important history. The stupas in the temples look just like the ones in Sri Lanka, where I spent 10 years in 2000=2010, mostly in Kandy. The procession is really well done, and the outfits, for both the females and males, are great...a lot like the peraheras in Sri Lanka. The music is beautiful! And it's good to cover the daytime activities of the festival, and to see a festival with more of a "country" theme in a less urban location...I only saw it in Chiang Mai and Bangkok. So in Sukothai, the festival was on the 18th and not on the Full Moon Day? Well, this year, I'm in New Orleans, where Thanksgiving is a week-long festival that includes outside activities also...with the 1st lighting of Christmas decorations...so I did spend the last 4 days in a festival!

That's something that has always been quite difficult as a traveller - there are so many fascinating and wonderful festivals to experience around the world but you have to either plan to be there on the perfect time or be at the right place at the right time! I love the colourful dresses and the incredible pagentry of it all! One of a kind!

The celebration in Sukhothai is really something special, since it lasts so long (10days I think it was). This was my first visit and Loy Krathong experience there, but what we saw was still just the opening of the festival.
