“Let me say first that I am not a prude. But I don't approve of the nudity on the screen today. I think a woman is far more attractive in an evening dress, low cut in front so the cleavage shows, low cut in back, fit to her figure but leaving something to the imagination. I've been to colleges and asked young guys about this, and they say the same thing. The imagination is greater than the reality, I think.” - Dorothy Lamour
Yes, I believe she was Creole as well. However, I believe she falls under the original definition of Louisiana Creole.. which is a person of French and or Spanish descent. Creole is derived from the word "criollo", which means native or local, and is meant to be a class distinction. I think it's the Spanish we are seeing. I'm mixed myself, and that's my hunch, but anything is possible.
Dorothy was friends with Dona Drake who was also passing as white and they were in a few movies together, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Dorothy was a little black.
The blonde interviewer is Rona Barrett, who deserves a video of her own. Hollywood stars were much more alluring back when they didn’t have surgery to look like each other.
"Creole" originally referred to the descendants of Europeans colonists who had been born in the colony in Louisiana the term "creole" used in the late 1700s to represent descendants of African , mixed race people as well people of french and Spanish descent with no racial Mixing I wish you all a nice day
I'm so happy you did a documentary on Her. Could you, also do one on the troubled, yet wonderful, Jean-Michel Basquiat! As soon as possible please, because as your fellow Haitian, his art is rather very interesting, yet beautiful, he's one of the greatest artists of all time, and my very favourite. C'était aussi très intrigant. Je pense que vous êtes probablement l'un des meilleurs conteurs. Happy holidays from your Aruban supporter and Greetings from the UK! 🤎🙌
She definitely gives me creole. I definitely think there is some black in her somewhere. Very Tina Knowles(ish). Definitely not white. Or a white woman passing as black. Her features are too strong.
My late mom stated she recalled as a child, seeing Dorothy in Marshall Field's when she was an elevator operator in Chicago. I really liked "The Hurricane". I never heard rumors she might be mixed race. Who knows. I never knew she was part Spanish. She does look a little Asian.
thanks for this info on Dorothy. I do a lot of sewing and have some knowledge of vintage fashion. Just wanted to let you know that a sarong is not a beach towel, though it made me laugh when you said that. It is actually a piece of cloth draped and sometimes sewn into skirt form (not towelling) 😄

When people come into comment sections and start preaching instead of talking about the subject matter, I'm sorry, but it doesn't make anyone look good...
I'm Catholic. I go to church at least once a week. You're embarrassing and awkward. You're not trying to make this about God. You're making it about you and you're an extreme narcissistic troll. You're not making people want to be Christian. Do you understand that? You're making all of us look annoying and selfish.
@@JennWatsonAs a Christian I apologize on her behalf. This person probably isn't even Christian. It's probably just a troll. Most of don't act like this. Have a good night.

My family left Haiti (came from France) and went to Jamaica, while others ventured to Louisiana; we have similar bloodlines and there are somewhat similarities (not that I look anywhere like her!). Just the overall vibe of racial ambiguity. I have naturally frizzy/kinky hair, an olive complexion, we have a similar face shape ((probably not relevant?), my lips are more full though. People often ask me, "what are you?".. bizarrely. I'm Jamaican (Creole), first and foremost.. Ethnicity-wise, I'm French, Spanish, African, and some other European ethnicities.

That's why when MTV came out, a piece of my imagination died.

She's simply gorgeous. I love her eyes.
My favorite feature on her 😍
From New Orleans!! Yeah. She was Creole.

Can you please do Alain delon, Jack Cassidy, Gloria Jean? I love how thorough your research is in your videos!

Coming from New Orleans, she could easily have been a Creole.

Her ethnicity doesn’t matter to me… she was an iconic actress in Hollywoods Golden Era
I don't know about her feet, but her hands are gorgeous, as is the rest of her. I love her long hair!

Karine, will we get a Alyssa Milano deep dive? ❤
Why do you keep calling mixed women black?
