Hi Kaja, (English guy here), I can so relate to everything you have expressed in this blog. I too have a long history with Bangkok. Ive lived and worked there and have a Thai step mum. Although I'm now back in London I try to head back to Bangkok each year and aim to retire there when possible. I loved the way you explained your relationship with the city and I feel very much the same. When i lived there all manner of things sadly went wrong and there some tough times. Yet that has not diminished my fascination and love of the country, city and the people. As you said time helps and you recall mostly the good times. The city, the people and the country now have such a powerful affect on my its draws me back. I seem to have something in me that drives me to try to fathom and understand the place. I want to make sense of the confusion and madness i experienced there. But anyone who truly 'gets' Thailand knows that us foreigners never really reach that total enlightenment of absolutely understanding the people and the country. Just when you feel you are getting somewhere with language and culture you realise you know nothing. It's the perpetual itch, the force that urges you to keep trying to understand everything but you never quite do. Its so funny when i watch your blogs you really remind me of the very same emotion and excitement that i also felt each day there when i worked. I feel what you did and your blogs make me smile and homesick for Bangkok. I completely relate to how you feel in your fab blogs. This video where you head back is beautiful and the happiness and nostalgia you show is wonderful and an indication of how special your time was there. I feel exactly the same. If you head to London get in contact and it would be fun to hit a Thai restaurant here and share stories. Philip

Hi Kaja, great videos by the way. I enjoy so much your videos. I was also living in bangkok for a year and I could understand really how it feels and this video mostly describing everything I ever experience. The chamchuri square, the chula shuttle, siam paragon, you do really make missing chula and bangkok so much, I exactly went to the same places as yours in this video. when at first I left for lao and feel alone and lost, I watched your video and it did cheer me up. Thank you and hope to see more of your video hopefully you'll back to bangkok and create more video there. Have a nice day!

Great video, brings back memories. Used to go to Chula often when I worked in Bangkok around 2005 - 2006. The irritating bit used to be the way the campus was plugged directly into city roads making it convenient for cars but quite unpleasant for pedestrians who need to suffer vehicular traffic in addition to the heat.
What you talked about at the end of your video really resonated with me. When I first travelled to Bkk 3.5y ago, I was overblown by the big city and didn’t like it. Also, it was the first city I travelled to on my own outside of Europe. Since then I went back a few times and like it more every time. Now, I’m looking for unis to pursue my masters (still a long way ahead of me first though) and eyeing more and more at Chula. So, always give Bkk a second chance, it deserves it in my opinion. If you feel down in the first few days, สู้ๆ, you will probably start loving it soon.
