Ancora ricordo le urla per i vari sorpassi con una Ferrari tanto veloce quanto inaffidabile. Da quel momento Nigel divenne "Il Leone". Grandissimo pilota.
F1 peak era. Best cars, best drivers, best racing, best noise, best commentators. Sometimes the young HAVE to accept, the mature are wise. And in this case it’s true
30 years ago. Thanks to watching Nigel's skills I got to be an unbeatable simracer. He inspired me because even with crappy cars he could do great things.
D'ailleurs il a fini avec le bout des doigts en sang car la boîte à palettes était très dure à activer avec les doigts. Pendant la transition avant la cérémonie du podium, on voit les infirmiers qui lui pansent les doigts
What a gorgeous looking Ferrari that one was. All these modern cars with high air boxes and razor-blade aerodynamics. The curves of that car looks like a finely toned supermodel. No wonder all Italian males were crazy about those cars :)
The best part is that he apparently said after the race that he had booked a plane ticket for halfway through this race because he didn't think the gearbox would last more than about 5 laps lol.
"An absolute barn-storming race" - I loved Murray's words. I remember being so excited Mansell was going to Ferrari back then aged just 14. Great channel CM ;-) Thank You!
I disliked Murray he was biased as a Britt, made foolish gafs constantly and always made it quite clear he did not like Ferrari as a Tifossi his voice was like finger nails on a blackboard. Brundle is good I enjoy his insight and perspective but miss Hunt.
"That's the first time I have seen 5 wheels changed in the pit stop: four wheels (two on the front, two on the rear) and the steering wheel"... - Murray Walker
Now you've been there James why on earth whould you want the steering wheel out ? Well the only thing I can think of Murray, the levers for gears are underneath the steering wheel ,and if he wsa having trouble changing gear they will have told him come in bung another wheel on and hope every thing connects up properly
In the John Barnard biography, “Perfect Car” the two of the three steering wheel’s screws fell out, and they had to replace the steering wheel...the story is much more dramatic...John Barnard was completely flummoxed by the winning result. TK
Murray got so excited, he used to say "new goodyear boots!" and also got his cars mixed up, nigel in a williams, no a ferrari, lol, we love you Murray!!!
Absolute MAGIC. Such a tonic after the previous year of McLaren domination. The Ferrari V12 sounds like.....actually, words fail me. Makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. Murray Walker fabulous, but also had the perfect foil in Hunt - all public school understatement to Murray's frantic babbling. Happy days...
I remember this race well, particularly the first corner crash. The Ferrari guys had early flights booked because they figured the then new semi automatic gearbox wouldn’t last long.
ahah yes because actually "ultima volta" means really something in italian (the last time) but on this occasion ultima volta it's portoguese and means obviously last lap :)
God that engine. It may have been unreliable, the gearbox was shockingly unreliable but it looked and sounded astonishing. Has to be one of the best looking cars in f1 history. Particularly the spec lacking the air intake above the driver.

As these memories get older they become even more incredible and unbelievable. Both of mansells wins in 89 were legendary. As he is.
Them cars looked so beautiful. A precious win for Mansell

This win made Mansell the first F1 driver to win with a semi-auto gearbox... shame it barely worked the rest of the time lol
it was new thing and needed his time to develop.. now everyone has it..
I remember this win! What a beautiful car what a excellent drive from Mansell!
No DRS No KERS ... pure Speed, pure Mansell

Fun fact: This was the first race they used flappy paddle gearing in motorsport, in the Ferrari
Its amazing how much faster it became 🏁🏁
D'ailleurs il a fini avec le bout des doigts en sang car la boîte à palettes était très dure à activer avec les doigts. Pendant la transition avant la cérémonie du podium, on voit les infirmiers qui lui pansent les doigts
the only innovation Ferrari has come up with
Thank you!!! These Murry/Hunt BBC vids are a real treat, here in the states we never never got to see them.

"It's the first time i've see 5 wheels changing in a pit stop. 2 in the front 2 in the back and the steering wheel" EPIC !
Very Brave Driver!!! Congratulations from an Ayrton Senna fan...
Well done LION!!! THE BEST FOR EVER!!
Still remember that race and the great surprise to see Mansell winning in his maiden Ferrari race.
"An absolute barn-storming race" - I loved Murray's words. I remember being so excited Mansell was going to Ferrari back then aged just 14. Great channel CM ;-) Thank You!

Murray Walker was da boss @ commentator's what a personality, and Nigel is simply awesome as well

This takes me back.
Can't believe it's already 21 years ago.
Thnx m8!
It's 31 years now
Real Circuit Real Cars Real Racers... THIS IS F1
Thanks
Murray got so excited, he used to say "new goodyear boots!" and also got his cars mixed up, nigel in a williams, no a ferrari, lol, we love you Murray!!!
Wheel on the grass then drive round the outside of Patrese, awesome.

Very happy memories. A relative moment in time we’ll never have again
Never has he been so glad to miss an early flight I guess
Fantastico, grazie!
Great driving by one of the best English drivers :) and those Renault and Ferrari engines sound purely beautiful :)
Absolutely Fabulous! the five wheel pit stop just brilliant!
I remember this race well, particularly the first corner crash. The Ferrari guys had early flights booked because they figured the then new semi automatic gearbox wouldn’t last long.
McLaren and Ferrari both beautyful cars!
ahah yes because actually "ultima volta" means really something in italian (the last time) but on this occasion ultima volta it's portoguese and means obviously last lap :)
I was there..
Spettacolare....
Nice music at the start of this
Mansell had an early flight home booked because he was convinced that the car would fail him. I think he was pleased he missed the flight home.
I remember that too. Great memories
Mansell is flying!
The Brazilian crowd was almost as pleased seeing Prost being owned TWICE by Mansell as if it was Senna! (See that marshall at the first overtake?)
Ultima volta is not italian..it's portuguese! :) (I'am italian and ultima volta in italian means: the last time)
God that engine. It may have been unreliable, the gearbox was shockingly unreliable but it looked and sounded astonishing. Has to be one of the best looking cars in f1 history. Particularly the spec lacking the air intake above the driver.
Thanks !! Super nice!
The 640 was a beautiful F1 car, if not a great one.
Great Start :) !
As someone once said....."FAN-TASTIC!"
Murray showing off his Italian "Ultimo Volta" haha
@suprashot1 @suprashot1 Hi, it's called The Ivory Tower by Klaus Doldinger and Giorgio Moroder.
v12 magic !!!! :-)
Ferrari V12.... Un elicottero
oh right, I've no idea actually but that makes sense because they speak Portuguese in Brazil right? I just thought it was Italian for some reason.
Indeed..... the irony !!!
Which track is this? Rio?
Unpopular opinion: Berger was the faster driver but got unlucky more often. Mansells championship had a lot to do with his williams.
@lucianoestivill prost actually finished 7.809 secs behind mansell to be exact
5 WHEELS CHANGE ! ! !
Excuse me…i must pop to the shops to buy a « Phillips car stereo » whatever that is😂
is F1 no kers no drs..... come back mansell, senna, prost, patrese, XD
how come hen changed his steering wheel?
v12 are fantastic ..... not V4 turbo ...... the turbocompressor is boring
nigel mansel at minute 0:06 he looks like mario land
@channelmansell ...... HAVE MY BABIES
(cuore
0:59 Brasilians cheer 1:05 Brasilians becoming doubtfull 1:08 Brasilians wanna kill Berger...
Ferrari back stabbed mansell and then employed prost, and then prost got sacked for being a b++++.
Alan Partridge wins for Ferrari!
