  • On 10 June 1944, the village of Oradour-sur-Glane in Haute-Vienne in Nazi-occupied France was destroyed and 642 of its inhabitants, including women and children, were massacred by a German Waffen-SS company. A new village was built nearby after the war, but French president Charles de Gaulle ordered the original maintained as a permanent memorial and museum.
Our daughter took us on a visit to Oradour in June 2013, and we all found it a profoundly moving experience. There were few people about and it was very peaceful, but the horror of what had happened here was all too evident. Despite my poor skills, this film is a tribute to all who were murdered that day, and to those who died or survived in fighting for our freedom from tyranny during WWII.
