I love your videos, the things you choose to carve, the way you carve them, and the way you teach. If I could afford $25/mo right now, I’d be in your classes instead of muddling through with RUclips tutorials. It’s rare to find someone who can do AND teach. It’s a once in a lifetime lucky recommendation to find someone who does both well AND makes you laugh. Thank you💕
It is fun it's like reading a fiction it takes you anywhere you want to go and when you finish you can step back and say I made that. Really enjoyed the carving lesson
How often do you mess one up and what do you do with it if or when you do? I'd love to see someone do a video of how they go about "fixing" a carving when they accidentally mess one up.
I decided that this is my next project. I have a 1.5" piece cut on a diagonal, so I'll see if I can come close to this one. Re the sharpener, do you have just a fabric belt that you add honing compound to? I looked at the Knife & Tool site and I only see belts with different grits on them. I appreciate these smaller, more accessible projects, so thank you for your efforts!
Hello again and thank you for your reply to my previous question about the fabric/stropping belt. I have since had an opportunity to try this project and I’m generally pleased with the result, but have difficulty with the eye detail. Can you refer me to another video where, perhaps, the issue of the eyes is approached a bit more slowly? I’ve been carving for about a year, but my comfort level is still at the beginner stage. Tool sharpness is likely an issue also, but, videos like yours are helping me to progress.
Try Van Kelly Woodcarvings here on RUclips He has a few videos focusing on the eyes, nose, mouth and entire face. That’s about all he has so far, but he is a very good teacher and breaks it down into fewer and simpler steps than many others I’ve seen. Of course he doesn’t have the personality of our man here, but for good easy to follow instructions he’s awesome 💕
high great videos but there is a part of the video missing at 10min 59sec were you define the face would like to sign up on your course but cotton wood is hard to find in UK can you suggest any alternative thanks for all your work Dave
I agree. I was following along trying to copy every cut he made and got all turned around at 11:00 I had to stop and really look at and try to figure out what he did to finish the helmet, eyebrows + hair because the video jumped/skipped forward. Still a great tutorial, just a little difficult to follow a times. Maybe its because I'm just starting out. Someone with more experience would probably have zero difficulty figuring it out lol.
Your Amazon link for accelerant is broken, but I used one of the others and bought my shopping cart. You get credit for anything anyone buys through your affiliate link, whether you posted it specifically or not. I know it’s not much, but every little bit, right? I’ll try to remember to use your links whenever I’m shopping amazon (which is way, way too often!😜) Edit: I bought a little set (mainly for the 1 1/2” whittler) of Beavercraft Ukrainian made knives at 25% off plus an extra 20% coupon code…because Slava Ukraini🇺🇦🌻 and every little bit helps💙💛
I noticed you mention Helvie brand carving knives in this video, but for the last several months every time I log onto their website it consistently says they are out of stock on literally every knife they make and sell. Are they going out of business? Or do they simply not sell to the general public anymore? Does anyone know the answer?
@Alec LaCasse TY Alec. I've heard ober the last few yrs that Helvie carving knives are great, but haven't had any joy purchasing one. So I guess I should see if calling them directly might get me an answer. LoL
It's because they're so popular and they get so many orders. It's just a husband and wife team so they can only make so many so quick. So they shutdown on orders until they catch up on the ones they need to do.
Ty Alec for sharing. Helpful tips 👍.BTW. The nose strap is long to protect the upper lip . It’s to hard too celebrate with a brew after the victory with a damaged lip . 😢 lol Alec keep ‘em coming 👍😇🇺🇸
Man I love your videos but you make me so nervous when you are cutting towards your thumb. I know you know what you are doing but I squint my eyes every time.
From the bottom of my heart, thanks for NOT putting horns on the helmet. I already like it.
Haha! Thanks!

That means a lot Doc!! thanks!

The vikings did in fact have steel! And not just steel, but also really advanced steel for their time. 🙂
Nice project , it’s my next carve 👍
I like your carving

I feel like I mess something up in almost every carving! But that’s a good idea!
That would be a great video!
Thankyou very much for sharing
Of course!
Отличная работа)
I am into Season 3 of “Viking” on Netflix. Going to have to try and carve one of these. Going to call him Ragnar.

They’re is an extension kit that you can purchase that has a fabric belt! :)
And no problem!

Hmm, I’m not aware of eye carving videos on RUclips other than Ron Adamson! My online school also has in-depth videos on carving eyes as well!

I agree.

awesome...but the nose plate is a bit long
Yes, but the Viking inside of this helmet was half Greek. Long nose, longer nose plate.
@@AlecLaCasseArt hahaaa....good enough
😂

Dude, you skipped so many steps around the 11 minute mark
My apologies! I lost a clip!
