I live in eastern Pennsylvania and I remember, a few months ago, we had a supercellular and tornado warned thunderstorm (no tornado formed) pass to our north in the Pocono Mountains. We did not get the brunt of that storm (thank God) but it was dark out and the lightning was nonstop! A few years ago, however, we did have an EF2 tornado strike a high school in Allentown, PA (luckily it was summer vacation, the building was vacant and there were no injuries). I felt the wind from that twister and, let me tell you, that was bad enough! I can't even begin to imagine what EF4s or EF5s feel like!! God bless the people who have experienced those and RIP to those who did not survive. Moore, OK and Joplin, MO come to mind. Great video! Thanks for the upload!!
cracking video hope you do more Adam as I hate thunderstorms this would rank number 2 on being really in tense and another good thing you kept informing us what's going on and showing your reaction to the lightning close and far away even with the thunder too..
Early AM, like the T-storm I got on June 5, 2010, which didn't have hail that I knew about, but was super loud! I also got that video in SD, with a Canon PowerShot A530. No tornado that I knew of, either.
Usually when I view a thunderstorm, it is to help fall asleep. The sound of someone talking to inform me what is going on just interferes with what I'm watching. I will usually watch for two or three minutes to see if the talking is going to stop. I am considering cutting that down to twelve seconds.
We had the same thing 16 days after this video was shot, complete with observable rotation and a lowering wall cloud over Lakewood, Washington, but no warnings. We also had a massive line if storms come over the cascades just three days before this footage was shot.
@25:43. Don't know if you guys realised but if you pause on the lightning bolt there's a positive streamer coming off the lamp post thingy then a fraction of a second later a positive streamer comes from inside the decking area you were standing on. You had a bit of a lucky escape. Great video though. Really enjoyed it.
Awesome storm. Storms like this are rare where I live.(I live in Adams NY). However before my last day of school last year, we had two severe thunderstorms. The first one wasn't that bad. The second one was strong. it had loud thunder, frequent cloud to ground lightning and a small tornado touched down which was rare.(and the date this happened was June 17,2014). We had to go to school the next day though. I was hoping they would cancel it. lol.
Rule #1: Make sure your recording device is FULLY CHARGED. Low batteries do not tend not to last as long as you'd expect. Be prepared. Rule #2: When recording thunderstorms, (audio and/or visual), have recorder/camera mounted securely on a tripod. Holding it in your hands, fiddling with it, giving a running commentary etc is a MASSIVE no no. Rule #3: Leave camera WELL ALONE, from start to finish. Do NOT keep moving it, breathing near it, talking in the background etc; in other words, KEEP extraneous noises to an ab-so-lute MINIMUM. Rule #4 If your editing computer/device can handle it, record on the highest possible settings. Rule #5: Wherever possible, record from start to finish with as FEW interferences as possible; yapping dogs, background TVs/radios, traffic, kids playing, commemorative parades, earthquakes, (ok, so maybe saying earthquakes is a little unfair, lol), ETC ETC ETC will ALL but ruin your thunderstorm video recording/s. Rule #6: Stay safe. There's no point being maimed or worse still, dead, if you want to record other great storms. For this recording, you lose points for breaking too many parts of the above rules. That said, it was great that you had a go and even better that you're still alive. 6/10.
Epic Loser Anyone with half a brain knows that sarcasm doesn't work on the net unless it's a face-to-face webcam, (with audio), chat. Anything other than that then it's an exercise in futility and stupidity.
Thank you for this footage I know storms are very dangerous but thanks for risking your life for recording this video you sound like a tornado chaser or a future meteorologist I hope you can record more in the future.
Scary thing is that most people were still asleep when this came through or were just waking up. One of the most vulnerable and dangerous times of day for a severe thunderstorm to strike coupled with the fact that it was striking an area where tornadoes should never occur.
Awesome job on filming this buddy !! I like how you guys were quiet but calm and at the same time showed some emotion in your voices which kept the viewing engaged. The explainations on the different parts of the storm especially at the end with the radar pics were excellent. Thank you for sharing..crazy storm, holy cow!!
I believe that there was a rain wrapped tornado either forming or was already on the ground near the 36 minute mark. When you moved the camera it had a center view of what looked like a very low cloud. That is very heavy rain. And even though its dark, it looks like it has a little rotation to it. Plus that is moving much faster than any of the clouds..i don't know for sure but its possible.
+Adam Weiner As I say I come from near Glasgow Scotland, the best or worst thunderstorm I can ever remember was way back in 1961, it was a Saturday evening and strangely enough there was not much rain with it but the lightning and thunder was spectacular, my uncle told me he had only seen a storm like that in the tropics, not in Scotland ever, so so matter where you are you can get spectacular storms at sometimes or another.
+Guy Hurst There was a violent thunderstorm on September 5th, 1958, that also triggered tornadoes in and around Horsham. The thunder was as far as Oxted, and Warlingham... although I was born 31 years later, so I don't know exactly what it was like.
Never was in a tornado one went over the house Dad bulit for us Summer of 75 but did not touch down have had do have some pretty severe thunderstorms though winter storms too get very pretty damn huge too this yr any way this winter summer spring will be here severe thunderstorms im sure will roll in for us in West Allis Wisconsin !!
It´s unusual time for storm! Isn´t it?? Storms are mostly developping in the afternoon and evening. During he night and in the mornigs they disappear. I remember only a few storms in the morning. But sometimes they come also.
Very very nice.. Intense and heavy lightning and thunder.. Just loved it... And you nailed 2 clos-ups at 25.42 and 26.23... But tell that buddy of yours to stop complaining about chaking the camera next time.. That was just a little bitt anoying :D .... But what the hell of a video.... You can be very very proud of that hour of beauty.... And thank you for not putting on some stupid music...... Greetings from Oslo,Norway!!
I think i was wrong haha. Just saw the 38 minute mark and that rising motion is a broken up tornado. You can see a distinct swirl motion. And its kicking up small debris but it dissipated about 30 to 45 secs after you panned over it with the camera. :) 👍 nice job!
It sucks I picked to live in Lewes DE where there are never any good storms. Bear, Cecil MD and Glasgow and Dover get awesome storms. Lewes DE has an invisible shield around it :(
FEELS THE SAME FOR MIDDLETOWN! Anything moving toward us misses us to the north and south, or is just boring, and Middletown is not far from where this video was recorded!
If i was with the whole Orchestra at London Hyde Park in july of 1991 me and whole orchestra would saw this Supercellular Thunderstorm Heading towards London
spring is already ramping up this year to bring severe weather in the plains and south. Texas already got like tons of rain and has massive flooding. Poor people. May is just around the corner for us.. and so is the severe weather. I live in indiana btw..
Get away from the windows? Glass is an isolator, no electricity will flow trough it. And if lightning strikes your house and you ghave no rod, it doesn't care where you stand, it just strikes trough almost all material.
Since when is a thunderstorm automaticaly a tornadoe? Where is the tornadoe in the vid? And since when do all thunderstorms come with furious winds? So many questions, one answer: It's only a thunderstorm. If it was a tornadoe, than you should be standing at the window and say HI.

Most definitely! I was up at like 330 in the morning to watch a meteor shower from a live stream, but then storms started developing all over the place along a warm front and I tried an hour of sleep, but was woken up at 600 AM by the tornado warning!
That thunder does not sound nice at all. That must be a supercell. I live in Brantford Ontario Canada, & we've had some close calls. There was that one night back when i was living in Waterloo, back in 2010, & they were issuing severe thunderstorm & tornado warnings. Luckily, i slept in my basement because that's where i originally was. The rest of my family would have joined me in the basement had the rotation continued. But it passed. also the other time, the year i moved to Brantford, there was a tornado warning for the city. I was with my dad & one of my sisters buying new shoes for school, & i heard on the radio that a tornado warning was issued. So i began to get nervous, especially when the thunderstorm came around 9:00 in the evening. I was scared of the thunder, even though i'm not normally scared of thunder. But we went to the basement a while later, but i wanted to go to the basement right when the thunderstorm came.
One off the best recording off a thunderstorm that i have ever seen !!! My compliments ! Watching this from The Netherlands .

My astraphobia is flaring up right now. Even I wonder why it is I binge watch videos of realizations of my worst nightmares.

That's a great example of how valuable it is to be able to see the couplets for early warnings.

26:22 that was insane.
My grandparents had a bolt of lightning hit their boar fence and it fried the modem and the wifi router including the whole telephone system
I thought this was going to be filmed in Scotland xD
+Sloth from The Goonies There is more than one Glasgow in the USA but only one Glasgow in Scotland
Alan Morr But the one in Scotland is larger and more well known than all the American Glasgow's put together.
+Sloth from The Goonies there is also a new glasgow in nova scotia canada
+GeneralDave and that's where I'm from
+Sloth from The Goonies Me too.

I would love to switch places with you. Living in the Ohio valley is the pits. Constant severe storms. They make my life miserable!
Frequent lightning is very overwhelming especially when it keeps going and doesn’t stop for even two seconds
I think that storm woke me up last year.
Lol

Being from Scotland and being totally confused when you are like 'that is not a glaswegian accent!'
No it’s Glasgow in Delaware United States probably named after a Scottish founder we got a new Glasgow in Nova Scotia Canada too
Is it just me or after the 28:00+ mark the image takes on a tornado green hue? Very freaky and nice video you shot here. Thanks for sharing.

Adam nice shot and reporting the rotation.
Way to much camera wagging all over hell. Thought I was on a dam rollercoaster.
You did an awesome job filming this tornadic severe thunderstorm, the lighting is really freaky. Love the video hope u film another
49:31 you can hear the wr-100 in the backround
You're right! It's so faint, but you can hear it.
Dude keep that camera still and stay quiet let Mother nature do the talking
yeah i agree i wish he would have kept quiet too and didnt touch the camara
I dont mind him talking and hes also trying to capture all the lightning strikes :3
I think i was wrong haha. Just saw the 38 minute mark and that rising motion is a broken up tornado. You can see a distinct swirl motion. And its kicking up small debris but it dissipated about 30 to 45 secs after you panned over it with the camera. :) 👍 nice job!
I was incorrect once again...ignore my insolence. I most likely have no idea what i'm talking about 😞
Nice job Adam you definately have great eye never stop or give up what you want to do in life I enjoyed it thnx
When its really really humid as it storms we get lightning every half a second

Do tornadoes normally occur in the state of Delaware? Awesome video!
Tornadoes occur in all 50 states
That thunder sounds scary
Thank you so much!!! I subbed ;))
That is one scary storm.
Yup exactly I wouldn't want to live there 😬😬😬😬😬 very intense lightning and thunder yikes⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️

Flying debris, and high winds can easily break windows.
+ExtremeDeathmanThe weather stations says that you should stay away from windows when there's a thunderstorm.
But glass breaks in a tornado.

Tornado** and this storm was a supercell, meaning it had a rotating updraft and could produce a tornado at any time.
The other day in Delaware the lightning strikes were bad
This video is really nice.. When you guys aren't making noise. I think people just wanted to watch the storm. Your kid should be a weatherman.
that bolt that your dad said it was on the street... was on your deck. frame by frame it. the bolt hides out your deck rails, you got lucky lol
🌟🌟🌟🌟TERRIFIC VIDEO🌟🌟🌟🌟 You have no warning sirens in your area??? 🤨
defiantly rotation!
awsome storm and video
Oh Lord I'm moving to Delaware new castle in June we don't really get bad weather so me and my husband have to prepare for bad weather
Weird our city is Glasgow but it's not here.
wtf why was it so early
25:44 😳 woah that bolt was REALLY close to ya
omg haha I live in Glasgow Delaware too I remember this storm I woke up and saw a tornado warning had to bring the fam in the basement
I know that I should have gone in the basement when the Tornado Warning was issued but this storm was too rare for me to not capture...so this was the result! ;)

A good tip is to set the cam up somewhere good then just go to the basement so you get the awesome stom but you're still safe too! :D
I was totally considering that! But I had been watching the radar and saw that the storm itself was evolving out of its supercell form that was seen in Maryland and I just couldn't miss a second of this storm. It was not the safest option but it was definitely one that I don't regret! ;)

hah... I'd probably do the exact same thing... even though we never get storms here and since i'm only 12 i'd probably be scared crapless!
I like this ⛈
At 49:39 you pulled out a national wether server radio? Do you mind telling me where you got it with a link and or how much they cost? Thanks
That radio is a Radioshack 12-993 handheld weather alert radio. You can find them in Radioshack stores, I could not find it on amazon. Cost is $50.
