One of the most interesting (and probably frightening) things about this song is that if you play the chanting in the beginning (which seems nonsensical, and it is indeed) *backwards* you'll hear "nige rarenai", which translates into "You can't escape". Probably referring to the curse of Oyashiro-sama / Hinamizawa syndrome, that if you try to move out from the village, you'll end up being insane or even dead.

This song and video sums up all the beauty, danger and mystery of the Higurashi saga so well! They could not have chosen a better song to open the original anime!!
Higurashi is what sparked a fuse in my mind. This is one of the first series that introduced me to horror and psychology. I still remember being a young teen when I first found out about this series after thinking anime is just romance and comedies, I was so wrong LOL. I'm starting my second year of college this fall with having psychology as my minor and I think this played a big part in introducing me to that interest
10 episodes is a long time to get hooked on a particular series, especially if a series is aired 1 episode at a time per week. If you are not intrigued by episode 3, then odds are it's not your cup of tea. Episode 1 seemed to drag on forever...then I went and looked up the series (read a bunch of spoilers) and how the story was constructed with its arcs. That intrigued me and spurned me on to keep watching.
Finaly!!! I found out what she sais at the begining!! It's "adnianeraregiN" (Nigerarenainda backwords) What would be "yawa nur t'naC" ( Can't run away)
Absolutely love this song, the darkness of it, it's an absolute masterpiece, and EXTREMELY underrated. The original 2006 Higurashi When They Cry was SO much better as well in ALL aspects, before it slowly got unfortunately ruined over time, very sad how the new studio couldn't stay more true to the original and pay the respect it clearly deserves, but this song, and Eiko's vocals are haunting and fantastic all at the same time.
