All sorts of mythologies have freaky shit. Zeus once transformed into a swan to rape a woman, and a bunch of classical artists _painted_ that. (Some of them even had her looking like she was really into it.)
I feel a special kind of relief seeing that title, and knowing that no one will try to make a 2010s-esque shitty Nerd Culture(tm) parody song where they mixed Pokemon with Not Like Us, wearing the shittiest costumes money can buy. That's one part of the past I don't miss.
Reminder that it recently came out a day ago that nearly all of the docs were basic machine translated and have major discrepancies between what is written vs actually conveyed from thorough translation; even the whole “child age” part of this isn’t even said nor any grooming/unwilling aspect with the hermit Typhlosion. A lot of the info was just passed on 4chan with poor translations and were ran with by everyone without checking the actual text. *MOHG DEFENDERS, RISE ONCE MORE! ALLEGATIONS HAVE COME TO BE BEAT.*
That whole "debunking" was done by a single literal who on twitter, who simply said "it's machine translated so everything's wrong" like we didn't already know it's a rough translation and provided no additional clarification or even his own translation beyond "source: my ass". Pokemon Twitter is so eager to spread misinformation it's insane just like the palworld situation.
@@GameBooAdvancePlus Except that it was provided and the whole thread has been updating from input and corrections by others The whole point of the thread was that it WASN’T spread that it was a really rough translation since everyone kept on using it as face value. They literally even say that the thread is redundant in nature at the very beginning but it was rampart misinfo at that point already from the 4chan threads. …it even starts out with people who helped with translating it and sources for everyone else who made inputs in.
That thread just clarifies the context of it being a Yokai tale and their typical cliches, but no one bothered to do a straight retranslation of the entire thing, I want to read that. And the attempted murder charge is still there
I think people who actually know what this is about are more or less aware that it's just a reference to some folk tale, because japanese developers do that quite often, it's just not everything makes the cut. But the situation sorta got out of control because of people who went "WTF pokemon, why would you do that?!" and "Oh no.... but what if?" crowd. It may not have as much staying power as vaporeon stuff, but i feel like it's here to stay nontheless.
all the overreacting to a leaked and scrapped myth reminds me of all those "pokemon is secretly dark and morbid" theories based on the fact people eat pokemon, a.k.a the writers acknowledge that the food chain existed. like have you never seen a farm?
Supposedly, the version of the story that everyone knows is a wonky machine translation of the story that missed a lot of context and contributed the script to an author that doesnt exist. In reality, the Typhlosion disguised itself as a hermit and saved the girl from a snow storm. Where it took her back to its home and they uh... lets say *got together* from there. Its based on a shapeshifting badger yokai called a Mujina. And the girl in question was likely a young woman around 16-20. Its still all very weird, dont get me wrong. But the incorrect version of the story makes it sound way worse.
The human-made translation clarifies some things, but it ultimately is the same story. Yes, the typhlosion does save the girl, but it does prevent her from leaving by feeding her berries that make her sleep all day. When she gets worried about her father missing her, the typhlosion hypnotizes her to forget about her family. It’s still pretty bad
The OP of that thread stretched the translation to make it seem way better than it was. He's called on it in the comments. The term used for the girl is one only used for girls aged ten to around seventeen. The pokemon brainwashes her and almost certainly raped her.
It's all just standard myths with find->replace being used with a pokemon name. basically all of it. i.e. literally who cares other than for the amusing joke
It's almost like creative work has intrinsic value to the future iterations even when the final version is changed from its original concept. It's almost like having an archive of the creative process allows future creatives to draw on the past from people who are no longer at the company or dead.
@@Vanity0666 It isn't like that at all. Most things belong in the trash with the napkin it was written on. The finished product may be worth archiving, but all the drafts on the way generally are not. If future workers need something to learn from, we should preserve the good things. Preserving iterations does nothing but damage the signal to noise ratio, making it harder to determine what's worth learning from and what isn't. Especially in the scenario where the original author isn't available to identify which is which.
Everything gets put in the vault. Nevermind the full translations for all of these stories are 10 pages long and didn't actually say force, or imply it or anything. And of course a woman writes it because we saw what women choose with the bear. And the bear choose free food.
This IS the series where every pokedex entry for psychic, ghost and dark is like “This pokemon was born when the 100th child in a village dies. If its eye ever opens the world will end.”
Remember: marrying pokemon is canon. People turning into pokemon is canon. The line is basically nonexistent. These folklore stories not being canon doesn't matter, because the Intent is blatent and on the table
I think it is really funny that people are pedo investigating a fake creature based on a fictional depiction of it in a story from a leaked non-canon and out of context document
There is a tragic air to the pokemon fanbase The world's most popular role playing game franchise of all time, and it appeals to people who pretty much can't read
the funny thing about this, if you talk to every NPC in all the games you will find this is pretty standard for the Pokémon world like finding out humans in pokemon actually lay eggs as humans are part of the human shape egg group or that one woman who talks about banging her dead husbands machamp while she is standing in front of her dead husbands grave plus hypno
I know people took the "Hypno kidnaps kids" thing and turned it into something worse, but I thought there was never any actual implication of anything other than eating dreams.
What are you talking about, the Woman talks about how her husband's Machamp hates being in a ball because he died while the Machamp was in a ball so now it works as a Ride Pokemon. She even gives you the contact information for you to use it
TBF to the leaks some of the story does just read as some japanese folklore tales but with pokemon instead of weird yokai or some shit. But then theres also the story of some fisherman just raping some octillery he finds on the beach (probably a joke reference about the fisherman's wife art/tale of a woman fucking an octupus.)
I find this all hilarious as someone whos been into pokemon since the begining. Theres literally a page of a book in the gen 4 games that talk about how at one point people even married pokemon as they were viewed no different than man or something to a similar effect. Theyve messed around with mythology and these concepts for a while, while also not going obviously so far its wierd. If you even take some time to go through the pokedex entries theres stuff a ton of parents would clutch their pearls over. Theres at least like....3 child stealing pokemon. Descriptions of how pokemon boil other pokemon alive or could nuke the universe. So i could definately see them spitballing so many ideas and a ton getting left behind due to the nature of them lol
Yep the problem is people don't read in game lore as much or at least they don't retain it. It's basically always been a thing but this is the first time where people had it directly in their face outside of the game.
Everyone knows that, this just shows that they had bigger ideas with their brainstorming drafts in terms of the concept (plus more Youkai/folktale/mythology stories). Like reading a short description about marriage is one thing, but then seeing cliffnotes about how some guy's half octilery spawn fought an Ursaring to the death is another thing. Hence why it blew up outside of the fake and forced moral panic.

4:24 so funny you say that because a lot of this stuff *did* make it into the game's just in a sneakier form. Sinno Folk Story 2 is a reference to the Typhlosion story, the Veilston's Myth is a reference to the Octillery/Lapras story, Sinnoh Folk Story 2 is a reference to the Ursaring/Rapidash story, Sinnoh Myth as well as a bunch of dialogue in Legends Arceus reference a line from the story where Arceus gets knocked up by a guy, and lastly there's an encounter in Legends Arceus that heavily implies a guy had kids with a Froslass in a story that heavily resembles the Typhlosion story.
There are over a dozen pokemon that are creeps and/or serial killers. But no one give a shit because that's all in the Pokedex; and gamers don't like to read.

its funny watching people experience this and not realize that virtually everyone in creative circles does this, regardless if its in a professional work environment, if you have the ability to draw, then your likely gonna make porn at some point, hell even Osamu Tezuka had doodles of a naked mouse girl he kept locked in a drawer that wasn't found until after his passing, it just happens XD
Mostly because people are stupid and take things at face value. Like the opposite it very true. If someone known for making porn decides to make something SFW, people will acted surprised or even offended.
Creative people just want to create things.

There is a big difference between raunchy coming from fans vs it coming from official sources.
Salazzle is what Woolie was talking about. She canonically has a harem >w>
8:14 This makes sense. People don't care about people. People care about fiction. That's not unique to Pokemon, that's just fandom.
I think most people aren't following the leaks or aren't even aware of them they just see people talking about these "weird pokemon sex stories" out of context and then it keeps spreading from there. Most people I see who have the context of what happened mention the personal data that was stolen and how awful it is. Though you are still right lots of people are selfish and care more about their fandom than anything else.
Thousands of Social Security numbers were hacked in America a month ago and everyone moved on from it immediately. There's not much anyone can do, and it happens so often that people have become desensitized to it.
Yeah the dead society claim was a little…….off to say the least
Let's be real, there's been no going back ever since they decided to design a Pokemon who resembled a green-haired anime girl.
There's that one grass type who starts off as a berry thing and ends as a "step on me" domme mommy, and her name in Japanese is thought to be a reference to dominatrixes.
Still can't believe that's the go-to. Sure, back then it was uncommon for a pokémon to be humanoid, but Gardevoir doesn't even have a mouth, and its whole body is misshapen... you might as well say you'd smash Jynx if all it takes is "looks human"

@@GameBooAdvancePlus Except that it was provided and the whole thread has been updating from input and corrections by others
The whole point of the thread was that it WASN’T spread that it was a really rough translation since everyone kept on using it as face value.
And the attempted murder charge is still there

i don't think that any of this is more "gooner shit" than lopunny or salazzle
You'll be sadly surprise how many people don't know that meat and other food products come from animals.
So just reality then, as dark as reality.
Remember the comic where Pokémon just…die in battle? What happened to that anyway?
Japan would *never...*
Willingly have a protagonist that absolutely geriatric.
The OP of that thread stretched the translation to make it seem way better than it was. He's called on it in the comments. The term used for the girl is one only used for girls aged ten to around seventeen. The pokemon brainwashes her and almost certainly raped her.
Same exact thing that happened with neoprog hyperventilating over some random creator who worked on BMyth Wukong
It's all just standard myths with find->replace being used with a pokemon name. basically all of it.
i.e. literally who cares other than for the amusing joke
Woah woah back that up , whats up with Woolie and Reshiram? 👀
I'm not shocked someone drew the Typhlosion Sex Cave or whatever. I'm shocked they kept it saved on company servers?
Oh no the story was written by pokemon's chief lore director
It's almost like creative work has intrinsic value to the future iterations even when the final version is changed from its original concept.
It's almost like having an archive of the creative process allows future creatives to draw on the past from people who are no longer at the company or dead.
@@Vanity0666 Especially since modified versions of most of these stories did make it into the games

This whole thing over something that’s wasn’t even gonna be in any game in the first place is so stupid.
