  • Spot the pump is done when the apparatus stops at a hydrant to fill the tank. #4 firefighter retrieves the 25’ 4” section of hose and hydrant wrench and sets the hose near the hydrant. They then remove the 4” discharge cap before securing the hydrant wrench on the stem with the handle facing down. They then begin walking the 4” male coupling to the apparatus.
Before connecting they announce “gate valve shut, bleeder valve is cracked”. They then ensure the 4” gasket is present on the intake and make the connection. They take slack in the line and use their hip to tighten the connection even further.
After making the connection, they return to the hydrant and connect the 4” female coupling. They check for a gasket before connecting. They use the slack in the line and their knee to tighten the connection even further. They then begin to open rhetoric hydrant. They open it at a fast walking pace until water reaches the intake and the hose expands. Then they open the valve completely.
Next they close the bleeder valve before fixing any kinks. They’ll open the gate valve slowly and completely before giving a turnover to the engineer.
