Emil Johansson’s runs were the most awe-inspiring, emotional, and outstanding part of the event for me. The love that rippled through the crowd for him, knowing his story, and realizing what a world class athlete and champion he is... wow. 😍
I would love to see Rogatkin do some opposite tricks. I don’t think I have ever seen him do any? His runs are pretty rad but I would imagine Bretts opposite tricks are more difficult to learn. That flat drop tail whip was nuts though!! I think style and opposite tricks should be valued more than a run of bangers.
Good event, but the judges are still bad... Separate them and just average the scores without colluding among themselves during scoring. What's the point of a point score if they are just deciding where riders "should" be placed on the ranking and then making an arbitrary point score to justify their ranking.
I disagree. They need to discuss amongst each other so they notice everything about execution and run variety. The point score just gives a general idea to how much better a run was to an other, its mostly arbitrary as it should be. The positions are the only important part.
Maybe because one of them was opposite, on a take off that has next to 0 lip and a dropped landing, and the other was off a FLAT drop. Do you realise how insane that is? He also done a 1080 where Brett done a corky 7 bar, those tricks are equally sick. They had to give the triple crown to somebody though, I think Brett's run was slightly better but hey ho@@TheSkazyyy
I cant believe that drop is 18 feet tall thats just insanely big, my balcony is 13 feet tall and I feel like if I fall on that I would break everything
its almost getting boring to watch Rogatkin win. im torn cuz I love the progression of big air tricks and I like watching him push the limit. I used to be hyped to watch the competition, but now its more like "will Rogatkin crash or win? "kinda takes the fun out of it.
Once the pack of top riders comes closer together we'll be on for some amazing slopestyle. If Genon steps it up, with the new young German talent and if Semenuk comes back on tours it'll be a sick watch. Getting stoked just thinking about it.
they need to change the point system. how do you win 3 of 4 events, the triple crown yet not win overall? you dont get awarded for winning, but you get penalized big for crashing. so you can go big, push the sport and be rewarded by the legacy you leave. or you can play it safe, be consistent be on the outside hoping those ahead of you crash which elevates you to 1st. even brett said it himself he didnt feel like a champion for getting a bunch of 2nd place finishes. I really like nicholi's mind set, his outlook on competition and showmanship. brett, very talented but too often is caught up in the mental aspect of it all. you can see in his eyes during the short interviews that his competitive spirit just wrecks him mentally & emotionally. like the reward is not enough to watch him go through this turmoil. he should understand without those competitors (first brandon, then nicholi) to push him, would we have gotten his best out of those comps over the years. every major champion or championship had someone to bring the best out of them. he shouldnt get caught up in the whole "i got to beat that person" rather just do your best and at the end of the day you find yourself on top then bonus. this is my narrative on him back then but its since changed and i think hes turned that corner from being so wound up in winning and seems much more relaxed and at peace with competition. i guess a bit of that comes with age and maybe if you hit your head enough times. glad to see it. really like reeders ramage win & the movies hes done with trek team.
Publicly he hasn't said much, BUT I suspect he is sick of the shitty judging where they "decide" before the event who should win and as long as that person lands everything, they give that person the win. It's complete bullshit, The judging has basically ruined the enjoyment of the sport for me.
Rheeder has been getting robbed his entire career. He has more firsts and tricks that only he can do than anyone yet no one cares because they aren't flashy like a twister. People always say how can Rheeder compete with Rogatkin and all the the tricks only he can do but they fail to see that Rheeder has and does more. I think the reason so many people dont appreciate opposite tricks or appreciate them enough is that a large portion of the fans are just mountain bikers and don't do any sort of freestyle sport. Unless they don't bother trying to learn opposite tricks i find it hard to believe they would pick Nicholi to win.
Ryan Samhaber I completely agree , he needs more credit , or he should learn oppo twister to piss people off but then nick would learn quad whip and then no one would care anymore
he missed a barspin on the halfcab, a tailwhip on the backflip tailwhip, a barspin on the double truck driver, thats why he didn’t get enough points to win
Because he's a big crybaby and left the corral after he crashed. He and Brandon seem so stuck up. All the other riders seem like they are having fun and supporting each other and Bret and Brandon just seem to care about winning. Glad Semenuk wasn't there in 2018.
I like Rogatkin, but Brett Rheeder had the better run. It was much more stylish, with more varied, much more interesting tricks. Nicholi’s win seemed like it was decided by the judges beforehand. They just wanted him to get the triple crown, total BS. Rogatkin didn’t even throw as many crazy spins as we’re used to. And then they even say the judges did a great job. Hell no. The judges better get their shit together before rampage. Anyway, it’s amazing to see Emil Johansson back on the bike. I love that kid. I wish him the best.
YUP! As long as Rogatkin landed everything they were going to give him the triple crown regardless of what anyone else did... It's sad that this sport's judging is so bias.
MC SwaggerFlagger Nicholi added 2 more combos in his second run so that at least it's 4 points better... And he did crazy spins as always.... Nobody can do a cork 7, double backflip, a Frontflip tuck no hander, a triple tailwhip, a backflip barspin, and a 1080 in the same run ... Do you think this is not crazy
Brett got Robbed his run was so much more technical and he links opposites whereas nicolai just goes for showy tricks. I'm ready for the dislikes. Judges were terrible matt jones also robbed on the first run
showy matters over technicality in these tournaments and thats totally fine! Im ready for the dislikes :D also...look at all dem spins edit: jones deserved way more either way!
Publicly he hasn't said much, BUT I suspect he is sick of the shitty judging where they "decide" before the event who should win and as long as that person lands everything, they give that person the win. It's complete bullshit, The judging has basically ruined the enjoyment of the sport for me.
Congrats rogatkin. His run was way better. Reeder is the favorite. You can tell. He's always trying to position himself in front of the cameras. Even putting himself in frame with other riders after their runs. Don't get me wrong. He's a great rider. But come on man.
All the top riders were rad AF regardless of who 'won'! Can we just all agree to get rid of Micayla Gatto... insufferably lame on the mic, it literally pains me to hear her stifle these guys in their moments of emotional glory/let down. Many cringe. Many.
I've watched many of these events and am wondering why there is always such a lame interviewer at the end/finish line. The questions are lame and uninspired and show a total lack of knowledge of the sport(and I have even less knowledge). Please hire a decent person to interview or just don't have them there.

Emil Johansson’s runs were the most awe-inspiring, emotional, and outstanding part of the event for me. The love that rippled through the crowd for him, knowing his story, and realizing what a world class athlete and champion he is... wow. 😍
That run was nuts
I was there and the excitement in the crowd was unreal!!! I for one have lost my voice from screaming so much!!!!
Haha, awesome! 🤘Glad you enjoyed it, Ash!
I know it was my first event I'm only 11

Much respect to all the Riders!

Godziek and Jones were way underscored!

what is wrong with the judges??? matt jones and simon godziek hopelessly underrated in the first 40 mins... what is this?!

IKR idk what the problem is with landing 5 degrees of straight
Rheeders always been a champ to me, so much style, that's why its SLOPE STYLE.
i like Rogatkin but i love Rheeder!!!
Why does people hate Rheeder? I mean, he's a just great rider,
best joyride ever! it was so nerve racking
Right until the end! 😎
Thanks for featuring bike set up of Matt Jones bike.

Emil has the sickest sponsors
wtf was that first matt jones score.. totally dumbfounded by that. 68.50 with a double backflip and tons of huge technical tricks
59:45 is the winner !
Good event, but the judges are still bad... Separate them and just average the scores without colluding among themselves during scoring. What's the point of a point score if they are just deciding where riders "should" be placed on the ranking and then making an arbitrary point score to justify their ranking.
separate the judges and most of the politics will disappear, slopstyle should only be scored on skill
Derek Smith Well it’s tough to fairly judge style, which is super important in the sport.
I disagree.
They need to discuss amongst each other so they notice everything about execution and run variety.
The point score just gives a general idea to how much better a run was to an other, its mostly arbitrary as it should be. The positions are the only important part.
How can be 3x flipwip better then 1080 and double backflip, trilplewip ?

Wow! Nicholi was great, really great. Clearly Bret was mor tech, mor crazy tricks, mor of everything. He kinda got robbed.
No way, Nicholi had a way more impressive run. Bigger tricks, more fun to watch. He deserved the win!
I just got into this! Love itt.. "Go Big Or Go Home" ye
Congratulations Nikolai

Brett reader has the best bike
Bro, that backflip triple bar spin gave me chills
If it would have been semenuk doing a run like reeder, the judges would have gave him the win.
Yeah because he's local and always gets favoritism from the judges. So glad Semenuk wasn't there in 2018 so the other riders had more of a fair shot.
Does Brett Rheeder have a rear derailleur on his trek dirt jumper?
they need to change the point system. how do you win 3 of 4 events, the triple crown yet not win overall? you dont get awarded for winning, but you get penalized big for crashing. so you can go big, push the sport and be rewarded by the legacy you leave. or you can play it safe, be consistent be on the outside hoping those ahead of you crash which elevates you to 1st. even brett said it himself he didnt feel like a champion for getting a bunch of 2nd place finishes. Where is Semenuk?
Brett's run was better , had more firsts in it , more tech , just as many bangers , more amplitude, more style , how did Nicholi win , makes no sense
Rheeder has been getting robbed his entire career. He has more firsts and tricks that only he can do than anyone yet no one cares because they aren't flashy like a twister. So true. Brett has technicality and I feel that would take so much more effort than just having a few big tricks to look showy
What music plays at 13:06?
Stalking Rheeder after the first run? Why?
Because he's a big crybaby and left the corral after he crashed. He and Brandon seem so stuck up. All the other riders seem like they are having fun and supporting each other and Bret and Brandon just seem to care about winning. Glad Semenuk wasn't there in 2018.
