  • An episode of Crackerjack from 1981 (i think) with Stu Francis and the Crankies and a nail biting victory for Tom from Summertown Middle School in Oxford in the final with celebrity partner Wendy Richard!

    My dad hated programmes where there were kids laughing in the audience. Grandad with Clive Dunn, and Crackerjack! I used to love Crackerjack on a Friday evening as a kid in the 70s/80s, Ed Stewpot Stuart and then Stu Francis. They tried to bring it back but times have changed, and even in the 80s that format was looking a bit tired. Best to just let us Gen Xers remember this and shout Crackerjack! at the right time!

    Definitely 1981, not only due to the songs played, but also thats when John Inman did Mother Goose at the Victoria Theatre, christmas 1981.

    I bet the Krankies are wishing they were back in those days, they really are in enormous trouble. What with the SNP's motorhome that was bought with party funds and then parked on wee'Jimmy's mother-in-laws drive.!

    At 11:32 you can clearly hear the lady on the left whispering Charing Cross in the boy’s ear.
    When the other lady said she cheated she wasn’t believed. 😂😂

    I remember those paper hats being a bit of a fad in the 80's. They were incredibly cheap, that was the appeal of them. They could staple one into Lookin' or The Beano, just a flat piece of perforated thin card which popped out into a kind of baseball cap. And silly string! I remember first encountering that stuff when some lads were spraying it from the upper floor of a shopping centre, circa 1983. I fear to ask, what was it made from? I'm guessing it wasn't particularly environmental friendly.

    Hats off to the Krankies for creating the word hubbadubbadoobie. They even had a song with that title. Does anyone have a link to it?

    • @BookieKillah
      @BookieKillah Год назад

      I remember that 'expression' as well, the follow on from 'Fandabidozi' - sounds a bit druggy these days though, 'doobie' and all;
      I also recall The Krankies indeed singing a song on Crackerjack, I think in a 1982 episode, but it was Fandabi-, not Hubbadubba- - the line ended _'...and they danced all night'_ though - might that be what you're thinking of...?

  • @KKAkuoku

    And here I was thinking that Chas and Dave did the theme tune first.
    Anyway, their version (and their intro) was better.

    When the BBC had more cash to make so much more variety than you get nowadays. But ONE PROBLEM, is Jimmy Saville lurking anywhere? It gives you the creeps.

    I'm old enough to remember this boring intro, but The Krankies really boosted the ratings. It's a shame they were unable to attend the revival last year.
    And I don't care what people say about Stu Francis, he was the best Crackerjack! presenter. Yes, his catchphrases were annoying, but at least his addition made the show less upper-class. The Krankies recently revealed the kids were from public schools during the Stewpot era... I'm not surprised.
