i love these! they deserve much more attention! best editing work, filming and the skater of course too!!! 🙏🏼 thanks for making these edits brett, you create a magic vibe like no one else in skateboarding!
First off Skateboarders deserve way more credit than they are actually getting. Isamu just blew me away. Hands down one of the best flatground skaters I've seen. Primo tricks have always been difficult for me to land. I've only ever landed a varial kick flip to primo once in my entire life. I'd love to see more from Isamu in the future, definitely one skater to keep an eye out for. Secondly, Brett Novak has way too much talent and knows exactly how to put it to use. Very rarely do you see inspirational skate videos these days. This one had everything. And stood out for those reasons. The scenery and all those beautiful shots were definitely what I loved most about this short video. I loved everything else of course, don't get me wrong. People who are looking to get into skating or making inspirational / beautifully shot videos, take a page out of these guys books. They have done the skate world justice and should get the credit and support they so deserving deserve. I entered yo.
Isamu and Rodney met face-to-face for the first time last year at the World Freestyle Round-Up in a suburb of Vancouver BC called Cloverdale at the Cloverdale Rodeo & Country Fair. Rodney said he's nothing short of a genius as well as a great skateboarder. Isamu will be competing starting Friday May 19th,2018 again. There will be live feeds on the World Freestyle Round-Up website for those that wanna see Isamu and 56 of the best Pro/Am/Legends Freestyler skaters live.
This kid is the skating equivalent of Mozart. You can't quite understand how he does it, but it almost brings you to tears because it's so pure and raw.
@Brett Novak I'm not even a skateboarder, in fact I am a freerunner, but this is the most beautiful video I've seen on RUclips in a long time. Stunning work.
Whoa, after watching this I really have tears in my eyes, because the skateboarding of this Boy tells exactly what skateboarding needs to be like. When you're on your Board, theres nothing else. Nothing else counts in that moment. That was definetly one of the best skateboarding movies I've seen in my life! Thank you for that Brett. Ps: I entered:)
This is too relatable! Brett's Skate films make me emotional too. It's something I can't quite explain but each of his films are so so beautiful. I have no words, really.
Tom M The beauty and energy felt from this film expresses so much depth. And indeed when you're on your board, you're in the moment and nothing else can really take that moment from you.
Polinize It definitely hits hard. I use to cruise around on my skateboard and the experience would bring me joy and take me to a place of peace. Personal moments just for me.
He is truly a gifted skateboarding human being. Only a few can reach this level. Most are destined to just enjoy or just survive skateboarding. There are many many different disciplines. Vert, street, park, downhill, slalom, freestyle, cruiser, bowls, pool, transportation, surfskate, long distance, downhill slide, Manny pad tech, slappy grinds, jump ramps, gaps, rails, stairs, ledges, ditches, pipes, the list seems endless. That's why I love skateboarding and have been doing it for 55 years of my 65 year life. It is fully a part of me and like I samurai said I don't know what I would do without it. Never stop rolling!
This may be the best skate video I have ever seen. The skateboarding is so creative, and obviously insanely impressive. The cinematography is absolutely astounding. I can not even imagine all the work that went into this. Thank you once again for an incredible video! Keep up the amazing work!!
Best (active) freestyle skateboarder in the world is a Japanese teenager... not even that surprised. My favorite part was the buttery smooth coconut slides! I entered ;)
As always, your filming connects with me in ways I didn't expect. Even though i nearly always find some emotional connection to your art. Eyes always well up. Great work again Brett. Please don't stop.
Brett, If you haven't t yet, show this to Rodney. He would be soooo stoked. He loves seeing young skaters killing it. People watcher all day. As for the video, you my man made an amazing short film. I just forwarded this to about everyone I know. I'm at a loss for words. Amazing things rarely have words that do justice. Stay gold. Brian
Rodney Mullen knows... Here's what he said about Isamu: "The way he links his tricks together and the speed of them - it’s beautiful to watch, I would dare say that not many could do that, in that way, if they tried. Isamu is one of the most impressive freestyle skaters of his generation." Edit: well... this was 3 years ago so you probably already knew ^^ I didn't look at the date this comment was posted...
6:21 I lost it. This little man is incredible. A surreal understanding of skateboarding. I'm deeply moved and I am now a die hard fan. I grew up watching Rodney, and my dad lived not too far from him in Ft. Walton Beach, I'm gonna guarantee that this lil dude is gonna smash every single flat comp. Dude, I'm just floored. You're an inspiration. Brett, you made an excellent video and have an eye for the details. Props, huge props.
4:53 that double-board primo has blown my mind. His style reminds me of the steady moves from eastern martial arts. Has been her before Andy's vid, but I entered yo! :D
I loved everything about this. You are one of so few people who truly capture how amazing skating is and the cinematic shots showing the detail of the tricks and the scenery is remarkable. I entered yo!
Duuuuuude... This is amazing. I am blown away. I have never seen something like this before. That guy has hopefully a bright future ahead of him. And to you Brett Novak, I can only say thank you fo showing me this. You did a great job also. Pleasing cinematography, that doesn't draw to much attention to itself, superb editing and fantastic use of score. I am really touched by this video and that is not something I say lightly.
the way you present multiple angles of the same trick, the locations, the tricks, the music it gives such a imersive feeling!! I had my eyes on my screen for the entire time! I entered yo.
That scenery, that music..THOSE MAD SKILLS! This guy will be the most talented skater in the history of flatland...right after Rodney Mullen! :) Astounding video, Brett! :)
Bagof-T did you mean freestyle buddy? Also do you see how fucking young this kid is and how much he is shredding, how is this not creative and or gnarly, the only explanation I have is that you're super fucking jealous and you're just downplaying his skills to make yourself feel better
Bagof-T you also must not skate because if you where a skater you would know that "real" skateboarding is having fun and doing whatever tf you want to do and that exactly what this kid is doing
i really loved how brett did the edits to make the theme of the video to be isamu and his board.... all of the far shots through temple doors added to the feeling of being alone and concentration. I entered yo
No bro, I have to disagree. His style is all his own. Isamu is the next step in the evolution of Mullen's street style. It's cool to see him carry the torch. This really shows off freestyle and it's talented individuals, nice to see a different cultural take on the art. Loved how the whole thing breathed too, going from shots that peek in on an enclosed space, to wider shots of Isamu riding in open spaces with smooth flow. Amazing frame work man, keep up the good stuff. I entered :))
Will Ackerman Hey, what is white people culture ? They are the only people who are not ancient . Greeks are not ancient in case you mention that . ....please answer thanks
No clue how you got that garbage from "nice to see a different cultural take on the art" a 'culture' is not a race nor is "white people culture" a valid phrase (i think you meant to say 'western culture' ). My comment references the fact that I (personally) don't get to see many different eastern cultures show off their skating skills on this platform, so i was pleased when this video let me see how ISAMU does things over in Japan. Also i have no clue what you mean by "Greeks are not ancient in case you mention that"... that doesn't make any contextual sense.
The fast pace twisting and sliding is super gnarly! I really need to learn to skateboard! I love watching everyone's videos from the whole Revive and Braille guys! All of you are so inspiring! Keep killing it! I entered yo!
Isamu's skating is obviously the best thing about this video. the scenery was so beautiful and the editing was perfectly executed. im going to look for more Isamu videos like right now. I entered
It's hard to pinpoint which part of the video I liked best, it really is. However I love the shot at 4:00 . It feels like I'm watching Isamu skate from a distance, like I'm actually there watching him. There's not many videos/films out there that make you feel part of the action. Round of applause right there Brett. On a side note Japan looks like such a beautiful place, hopefully I'll end up there on my travels one day. I entered...
speechless.....absolutely unreal footage , images, music just wonderful, and what a young and brillant old school skateboarder .really great job for this video .I love it !
I like the Slow Mo and the panning used in this vid. It's done so dramatically. Making the overall Cinematography truly gorgeous when paired with the music. Fantastic film making! I entered!
The Fishmiser also takes away from the best tricks when you film them all the same way. some points were like damn, but the repetition really took away from those moments
I honestly love the angles from which all these tricks were shot. Had to have taken some planning to achieve. And multiple takes. Phenomenal end product.
Thank you for posting this video. It is pure art. Isamu is a real talent, and I hope that he never gives up on his passion. He has a bright future ahead of him. The music choice is also amazing, and goes with the cinematography very well. I had never heard of Kishi Bashi before, and his music is a breath of fresh air. Thanks again for posting this video.
Holy im back at the 90s With Rodney Mullen. This Kid is amazing. And this Film is epic. The Camera angle the music, cuts all goes hand in hand. Stunning film, you made me a beautiful moment and bring me back in my childhood time
true! and the edit wow no words needed...only respect for the rider he has the freestyle skate spirit! and af course brett the best filmer in my opinion in the world at least from youtube!! Thanks again!!
justinight not just that they take action, there are many people who will never know their true talents due to lack of resources or opportunity to explore said talent. I've noticed that most successful professionals and athletes come from middle-middle class families or higher. It's rare for the impoverished to make it out of poverty.
Ben skates mason Whoa man, that dudes legit his downhill runs reminded me of myself when I was a teenager skating. I miss being able to just bomb the biggest hills in SF. I tweeked my ankle and took a 25 year break. Been back at it a few weeks and small slopes were freekin scary when I first got back on a board. I really liked his style though. Yeah skateboarding is the sport that you most often see the poor kids in as it's far more accessible than most team sports that cost lots of money to become good at. All you need to get good at skating is a complete deck, the will to improve, and a source of inspiration; be it trick tips or just good music that makes you want to thrash gnarly.
I loved the flawless transitions between slow motion and normal speed along with the creative angles and multiple angled shots in this video! Inspires me to get better at skateboarding! I Entered
Can´t speak for other people but when I started skating and I hurt myself really bad (e.g. when my shoulder just popped out randomly when being mid air...) then I was like "I´ll never be good and I´m not sure if it´s acutally worth this pain" and was just totaly dismotivated. BUT HE? When did he start skating? Like with 8 or even earlier? He fell x times and must have hurt himself like super badly, but he told himself to keep going.. while being 8 years old. With almost 20 I had problems doing that lel. - Oh and: I entered yo Ps: Everythime I see someone drive on the 2 side-way-wheels only I just flip the f out. Don´t even know how it is phisically possible to do that? And now imagine Isamu in like 10 years. darn.
to be honest, that's every skaters first test. You either realise what you're getting into; a world of pain and frustration with probably only a personal payout, and keep going.. or you give up and do something else
Well, I'd rather fall xx times at 8 years old than at 15 or so. It sure hurts, but the probability of getting seriously injured when falling from that height is significantly lower, and there is less energy involved in all the moves due to less mass being moved over smaller distances in approximately the same time. If a toddler falls on his face, he can just laugh it off. If a 2 meter guy falls on his face, he might break his nose/wrist or a tooth in the process.
The best things about this video are the tears running down my cheeks as I struggle to wipe my eyes clear so I can watch this and fully enjoy the splendor that is unfolding before me. Brett, you truly are a craftsman unlike any other. How you showcase skateboarding can't be replicated, and all who try fall far short of the mark. I recently picked up skating again after a 15 year hiatus and it's videos like this and Kyanq that stir something deep in my soul. The passion you harness from the skaters you film and from yourself just fills me to the brim with a desire to excel at EVERYTHING I do in life, not just skating. I know this is foo-foo touchy feely crap, but I can't help myself. You and the awe inspiring skaters you film, like Isamu (who brings a smile to my face every time I watch him), bring it out of me. I strive to do my best at skating, filming, editing, songwriting, etc. - and it is driven on even more so because of stuff like this in conjunction with all that the entire Revive (thank you Andy) team does everyday. You have yourself a life-long fan here. :)-WarrenP.S.: I wanted to say "I entered yo!", but, for some reason, I think someone else (who doesn't have the resources or funding) should get the free board. So best of luck to the winner! :D
wow. man. especially watching this on a good sound system. man I have not felt this good about a skate film in a while. it struck a chord in my heart and twice in the film I cheered out loud as if I was watching a live sporting event.
What I love most about this movie is Brett's amazing ability to find the perfect spots for the perfect shots. An absolute gift for putting beautiful skateboarding in the best of light, expertly visualising how much of an art it is. Thank you Brett! And also I entered yo!
This kid can shred wow! I love how no matter where we go, or where we come from, we all have this never ending urge to be great or successful whether it be in school or in hobby. I can remember 15 years ago dreaming of becoming a pro skateboarder. The days I'd get so stressed with school and life and all that would just disappear when I threw headphones on and grabbed my board and just skated, anywhere. Now that I'm setting myself up for a career as a surgeon skateboarding will always be my favorite past time and I can't wait to get -out there hit the parks again! Videos like this really make me hopeful for the continuum of skateboarding. Keep it up ! I entered! ❤️
What I love about this video is basically what I love about all of your work, Brett - the amazing videography and scenery paired with extremely talented skaters. Your videos always tell a story, and I loved how you included those wonderful words he said about how skating makes him feel. It really added to the emotion and how you viewed the video. Awesome, as always. I entered yo (not sure if it's too late yet but I'll try) =)
This video was insane. All the shots were put together perfectly. I loved all the angles and cool spots that were skated. This is honestly super crazy and deserves mad props. Awesome video. I entered yo
The music and the angles help to show the true beauty of skateboarding. The mastery in board control in this video is ridiculous. Most people don't see the true beauty in skateboarding and shear precision that is need to execute tricks so beautifully. This kid has so much creativity in his style and definetly has a future. He seems he is very passionate for skating. I feel this video can show the non skaters the beauty and help them respect it for what it is. The environment really helps portray the skill and making it show that it takes time to master the beauty behind each move. Nothing but love for this video I have entered
What I love most about this video, and with all of your videos, is your story telling. The film angles, the music, the locations, and the mix of slow-mo with regular speed. It's magical and inspirational to me. If I had to pick something specific to this video I would say the end. The super slow-mo with Isamu talking about why skateboarding is so important to him. Really sums up well why most of us love skateboarding. Anyway, sorry for the long-winded answer! lol I entered yo
breathtaking. the mood and flow and use of slow mo captured the touching inspiration of seeing a kid who's dedicated his heart and soul to what he loves to do. what a wizard!
The creativity of this video really impressed me. These types of videos and skate tricks really show how skateboarding is more than it appears to be to the world. I entered yo
Brett, love your style of videos and the way you captured how amazing Isamu skating is. one of the things I love about the video is not only the scenery you filmed Isamu in but watching the tricks in slow motion and seeing how technical each trick is. your totally killing is Brett! (I entered yo)
i love these! they deserve much more attention! best editing work, filming and the skater of course too!!! 🙏🏼 thanks for making these edits brett, you create a magic vibe like no one else in skateboarding!
still waiting for you and brett to make one jonny!
They did one about a year ago. Search "shortsided jonny giger" and you'll find it.
but what about a short skate film feat. jonny giger? :D
kabii
maybe doing the Giger flip, or going through the whole Greek alphabet (alpha, beta, pi, Omega, sigma etc flips)
Agreed Brent Novak is an amazing filmmaker I would love to learn from this legend!

This kid is exuding Rodney Mullen. This entire film is beautiful
this is so motivational and beautiful i never seen it like this until now
speechless.....absolutely unreal footage , images, music just wonderful, and what a young and brillant old school skateboarder .really great job for this video .I love it !
I like the Slow Mo and the panning used in this vid. It's done so dramatically. Making the overall Cinematography truly gorgeous when paired with the music. Fantastic film making!

The Fishmiser thays how you make a 8 minute video out of 5 minutes of clips. nothing groundbreaking. got stale halfway through.
The Fishmiser also takes away from the best tricks when you film them all the same way. some points were like damn, but the repetition really took away from those moments
I like the part when he went on his trucks in a handstand and did a kickflip out. I entered yo.
4:26, Primo sequence was awesome. "I entered yo"
this kid is the dopest ever!
🤘🏾🔥🤘🏾🔥
Holy im back at the 90s With Rodney Mullen. This Kid is amazing. And this Film is epic. The Camera angle the music, cuts all goes hand in hand. Stunning film, you made me a beautiful moment and bring me back in my childhood time
Very cool! I loved the filming and editing on this film!
everyone has talent. but the people who make it, take action on that talent.
true! and the edit wow no words needed...only respect for the rider he has the freestyle skate spirit! and af course brett the best filmer in my opinion in the world at least from youtube!! Thanks again!!
justinight not just that they take action, there are many people who will never know their true talents due to lack of resources or opportunity to explore said talent. I've noticed that most successful professionals and athletes come from middle-middle class families or higher. It's rare for the impoverished to make it out of poverty.
Grab Tack Knee yeah man thanks. people have so much talent but just can't use it, i hate restrictions..
Dope
I love the locations you used ! and the amazing camera angles

I loved the flawless transitions between slow motion and normal speed along with the creative angles and multiple angled shots in this video! Inspires me to get better at skateboarding!

Amazing film. There is no way that Isamu is human.
he's asian
ofc isamu is not human, hu man is isamus cousin
Leo Guo he's crazy
Can´t speak for other people but when I started skating and I hurt myself really bad (e.g. when my shoulder just popped out randomly when being mid air...) then I was like "I´ll never be good and I´m not sure if it´s acutally worth this pain" and was just totaly dismotivated.
BUT HE? When did he start skating? Like with 8 or even earlier? He fell x times and must have hurt himself like super badly, but he told himself to keep going.. while being 8 years old. With almost 20 I had problems doing that lel. - Oh and: I entered yo
Ps: Everythime I see someone drive on the 2 side-way-wheels only I just flip the f out. Don´t even know how it is phisically possible to do that? And now imagine Isamu in like 10 years. darn.
I started when I was able to keep my balance on a board. He was probably the same way.
to be honest, that's every skaters first test. You either realise what you're getting into; a world of pain and frustration with probably only a personal payout, and keep going.. or you give up and do something else
/watch?v=NtM5aFqxXO8 check this out, he never stopped because of a little pain
Well, I'd rather fall xx times at 8 years old than at 15 or so. It sure hurts, but the probability of getting seriously injured when falling from that height is significantly lower, and there is less energy involved in all the moves due to less mass being moved over smaller distances in approximately the same time.
If a toddler falls on his face, he can just laugh it off. If a 2 meter guy falls on his face, he might break his nose/wrist or a tooth in the process.
Lucca Fehn kids have more flexible bones you know that rigjt. Also they have less fear and are more flexible
That was a fantastic short film and some great skateboarding! Props to both Brett and Isamu for this amazing video. Keep it up! 👍
Isamu's freestyling is probably the most beautiful riding I've ever seen. It's awe inspiring. I entered yo
This Made Me Cry.😭😭😭
Why is everyone saying "i entered?"
scot E. king Some new shit I guess lol.
They entered into your butt
Rodney Mullen has officially been reincarnated
Wut
He’s still alive 😂

What a fantastic video Brett, awesome work!! Isamu is really talented

I entered! ❤️
Great video. Make more!!! The people need this quality. Great job man. I entered. And thanks Andy for telling us about this guy!!!
How did Rodney Mullen get reincarnated before he's dead?
My instant comparison also.
It didn't take long to discover that I was certainly late to the BBQ with my comment. I'd LOVE to see Mullen's reaction to this video.
As a noob, what makes you get reminded of Mullen? Is it just style? Or just how good he is?

Thank you Isamu and Steve! This is an unbelievable video

I'm 15 and i can't kickflip, he is 12 and is much bettere than aaron kyron
WTF
Nothing but love for this video

Beautiful! Stunning location, music, SKILLS & griptape art. love it💚💀🛹💚
What I love most about this video, and with all of your videos, is your story telling. Anyway, sorry for the long-winded answer! lol

you've captured such a great feel with this, made me wanna go out and try not break ankles again! well done, really really cool.
I liked the music and the fact I could still hear the skating and music together. I've entered. Much love
breathtaking. the mood and flow and use of slow mo captured the touching inspiration of seeing a kid who's dedicated his heart and soul to what he loves to do. what a wizard!
Amazing. Simply amazing, the skater and the video.
I loved the 2 wheel primo riding at the stairs and the other one that looked like a 360 out. I ENTERED YO!!!
The creativity of this video really impressed me. These types of videos and skate tricks really show how skateboarding is more than it appears to be to the world. I entered yo
Loved it. Very motivational, also very inspirational. This young man has some insane talent. Keep up the good work kid!
Absolutely amazing cinematography and flow both from the skater and the editing. I entered yo.
Thank you guys. Mind blowing
Brett, love your style of videos and the way you captured how amazing Isamu skating is. one of the things I love about the video is not only the scenery you filmed Isamu in but watching the tricks in slow motion and seeing how technical each trick is. your totally killing is Brett!
