His death scene really showed how cruel world of fate/zero (and our world as well) really is. He just wanted one thing, to die in noble fight and even that one thing was not grented to him. Other prople wishes and goals were what made his dream fall down and let him die without being fullfilled with his life and that was really sad and painfully realistic outcome. Shows how stomping over others is sometimes needed to be done to achuve our own goals and feelings of others sadly need to be looked over or we ourselfs will be the sad in that outcome.
I think in the last sentence you are not exactly right. Diarmuid's story isn't about the supposed naivete of honor per se but the naivete of assuming others are as pure in heart as you are. You need to stay focused on your goals and honor your ways but also need to remember others don't always play fairly, and there are people who never do. So if someone starts to force you into something you wouldn't do out of your own free will - GTFO of that relationship ASAP and go your separate way until you find fulfillment.
One thing that I always found interesting about Fate/Zero's story is how some of the servants have their own history repeated from their past lives. Diarmuid has the biggest hindrance out of any servant in this story, and I'd definitely argue he is one of the most tragic characters in the story(which is saying a lot). Great video! Made me reflect a lot on Lancer's journey, one of the many reasons why Fate/Zero is my favorite anime.
His Backstory and Reborn shows us how cruel the world is. We may pour our blood, sweat and tears to our dreams but it doesn't always mean we will succeed we may go even go far but if you're not really destined for it you will never achieved that dream.
Destiny is a dangerous concept in all honesty - it is a great excuse to forget any progress in your life when some tragedy hits you and then unalive yourself. Or to explain your good start in life and quick success with fate instead of a hard work of your parents or easy circumstances, which is just another side of the same coin as drowning yourself in pesymism. We answer to the consequences of our own free will and decisions we make. This point of view is completely opposite to the whole concept of the Fate/ series but, ironically, it compliments the series greatly when you see how people owning up to their decisions would make their tragedies avoidable. Like i.e. Diarmuid could avoid a stain on his honor by resisting Grainne's advances [the binding spell excuse wasn't mentioned in the series and isn't a case in Diarmuid's original myth, it's probably added in OtakuDaiKun's video mentioned by Alec in the clip], or Kiritsugu could learn his dream is unattainable by actually reflecting on his methods before he even joined the Grail War, or Lancelot would resolve his situation by admitting the romance with Guinevere to Artoria and asking for her judgement right there and then. However, we wouldn't get a beautiful story and katharsis as an audience - that's the charm of a Greek tragedy. The "lawful" choices or accepting consequences of previous poor decisions would resolve confilcts in all of the Fate/Zero Servants' and Masters' circumstances. Of course you have to take others' unwillingness to treat you fairly into the account, like maybe Fionn would be spiteful either way. But in that case Diarmuid would have a clear consciousness and wouldn't need to repent because he would have already done all he was obligated to do.
My heart cried so much for this tragic character. Such a terrible end both times despite having such a kind and big heart. My heart is torn to pieces. I have seen millions of tragic anime character but this just hit very bad.
Thanks for this one man ! He really was a true real one and his death really showed that this world the world of Fate was one of cruelty and would never hesitate to stomp on people's dreams and ambitions. Lancer will always be in my heart just like Rider as well as Fate Zero in and of itself !
"Darmuid is the most interesting character" Yall just jelly of my Gilles, while the other be having ptsd, tragic death and life altering revelation, ma boi is just chilling with his master trying new kind of decoration.
Thank you for this. Lancer has long been my favorite character in Fate/Zero due to the intimate, naive sort of purity in his character, & I think he's the most unappreciated character in the show, if not the franchise in general. His unwavering sense of duty & honor make his stubborn, strained innocence truly endearing. I feel like his vibes are similar to Samwise from LOTR-if Sam were to have had a bad ending. The scene of his death makes me tear up every time. Mans was done absolutely dirty in both of his lives, the least we can do is appreciate his character in ours
...Am I the only person who wants to yell "COVER YOUR FACE! WHY WON'T YOU COVER YOUR FACE?!". Also... yikes. Poor Lancer. Poor EVERYBODY in that grail war. Except Kiritsugu and Archer. They're assholes.
One my favorite shows of all time However i wish they explained his back story better Most Other servants had this lack of proper explanation too specially berserker Great video btw
Both Lancers always resonated with me so well. Something about their jaded attitude combined with enough resolved to keep them going. When I think of them, I picture someone with a righteous or pure goal in mind but one that they realistically can't achieve it. That goal is what really drives them so when an opportunity comes to work towards that goal both will take it. With Lancer from Unlimited Blade Works it was helping Rin so he could fight Archer once more, which he didn't get to do at the end. And Lancer from Zero, with as you mentioned, switching master to save his previous one (which again didn't get in the end). Great video as always, really enjoy your work. Very analytical without being too pretentious or philosophical.
In fate/grand order you can summon him as a saber servant and give him the battle he wanted against saber Most people use the fact that he is saber to put him up against lancer Artoria
Hey Aleczandxr, thanks for this inspection, lancer is an amazing character. If by any chance you read this, could you hint me in on how you get past the agonizing copyright claims on every single Fate;Zero clip on RUclips? I recently made a half-hour long analysis on master-servant dynamics (that I’m fairly proud of) but I can only upload it after disputing the claim, and even then it’s blocked in many countries. Thanks for the help
There’s no way around it, really. My stuff gets claimed pretty regularly. Just keep disputing it until it’s completely free of claims, or re-edit it if you’d prefer.
Alec's Scattered Thoughts wow, that stuff must happen a lot to you... kinda sucks how long disputing claims takes. Too bad it’s the only way, but thanks for the advice
Gilles De Rais is amazing. Call me messed up, but Gilles and Ryuunosuke was my fav team from Zero. "It shall be the greatest 'COOL' you've ever seen in your life!"
Thank to every timeline is canon . There maybe a timeline where kayneth use his command seal to give diamuid his wish but he still probably curses kiritsugu .
Rolled in the Fate Grand/Order on the Fate/zero banner while listening to your video 4 summons later! I got him! In case you don't know, normally this wouldn't be special. Lancer Diarmuid is a well below average servant of the 3* rarity(The most common rarity as 2* and 1* cannot be rolled with premium currency). But Diarmuid was recently, re-released as a 4* Saber and he is quite strong
You had a video titled the hope or light in fate/zero I can't seem to find it, Alec :( Edit: I think it was titled "The Heart of Fate/Zero" Edit2: found it
Coul you please indicate, where i can find the video mentioned at 1:20, namely "the heart of fate/zero"? I really wanna know your opinion on the subject of relationship between Waver and Iskander
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 music! It's very much a different story, but, besides how powerful Diarmund's struggle is, this video reminded me once more why Jin is my favourite character.
I think the loyalty part is a bit wrong. The loyalty he was denied was from his master from previous life who pretended to accept his marriage but killed him. In holy grail war he was expecting loyalty and appreciation from his master and tried his best to not repeat the same sin therefore pushing sola ui away.
That doesn’t quite make sense. What loyalty was owed him by the man who killed him? Sure, it was exorbitant and heinous for him to leave him to die but there was no loyalty “owed” to him at all. In fact, it was the other way around. Due to his digressions, he owed others much more than they owed him. He doesn’t go around thinking about how much he is owed loyalty in Fate/Zero. He instead acts in a way to be as loyal as possible, even to a fault at times. None of that quite fits with your interpretation. He does without doubt desire a good and true master but it doesn’t make sense for the “loyalty owed” line to apply to that aspect of his character.
Lancer a top tier character that needs more attention man
ikr cu chulainn needs more love
Doffen 02 nah he’s had enough tired of seeing him
He's really good, though Karna is still my top Lancer
I prefer the blue-headed one

Yeah it like you can be a good person but bad things happen to you while bad people have good things happen to them he shows in that's bad to be naive

God this anime is absolutely brilliant, all of its characters have such depth and Lancer in both Zero and UBW meet such tragic, unfulfilling ends
I thank you for bringing attention to this much deserved great character ,
Everything you said you felt about him I was like "me too man me too" .
Lmao that pfp is absolute gold.

Was and is still my favorite anime character because of his story and its sad ending. Great breakdown on it!
Man I adore this anime
Diarmuid's death broke my heart
as an irishmen i always flinched when the anime would pronounce irish names
before lancer dies he says i hope the grail only brings misfortune or sommet and he was right

Except Kiritsugu and Archer. They're assholes.
Except that, even though I didn’t really like him, archer had every right to be cocky
One my favorite shows of all time

I have to fully agree. Both Lancers, Diarmuid and Cu, are both my fav servants. Especially Cu, that dude is just awesomely amazing.
Catching up to your backlog of videos I haven't seen is such a treat, lol
What’s crazy is that, more likely than not, lancer would have beaten saber and changed the whole outcome
Great video on my boy Lancer!
Thank you so much for making this video. I really appreciate it so much.
I was thinking about Fate/Zero just this morning. What a coincidence! It's been so long I need to rewatch it.
I recognize that music, fantastic choice
Astonishing vid, definitely should throw it on the main channel. One of the most underrated appreciated characters impo.

Well He Wasn't Untrue About That Curse, The Grail Really Brought Hell!
I loved Gilgamesh, Iskander, Diamurd, and Gil de rayes(sp? Caster). They were all such enjoyable characters for different reasons.
Gilles De Rais is amazing. Call me messed up, but Gilles and Ryuunosuke was my fav team from Zero. "It shall be the greatest 'COOL' you've ever seen in your life!"
He was one of the best FATE characters and still doesn't get any attention.

great video for a great anime
probably would not have the same feel or tone of speech in a podcast format.
Diarmuid ftw
Nice vid bro
Why don't you post this video in your main channel? This is a great video!
I didn’t post it on the main channel because Fate/Zero videos give me copyright issues. Glad you enjoyed it.
Great video but your pronunciation of the Irish names could use some work 😅 keep up the good work
Wait Lancer is dead😱😱😱😨😨😨🤭🤭😢😢😢😭😭😭😭
You watched this while you're currently watching Fate/Zero?
Lancer ga shinda!
Oh no, not again

Imma say what he wants was rather a selfish desire.
