    My 3rd season skiing and only now I realised I need to put glide wax on fish scales as well. Thank you sir! It's a great video, you're so calm there, almost meditative.

    Thanks a million for answering my question - glide wax doesn't decrease the grip, it's the shape that affects it. Now I know. I was worried and nobody could explain this to me :)

    Thank you so much for this!! I thought waxless meant zero wax at all! I was about 3 miles out and snow starting building horribly under my skis… it was a very long ride home 😂 went to the shop, bought some, and my skis ride better than ever. Thank you so much!!

    I wax all my fish scale pattern base XC skis. When it is icy the wax is stripped off the base and I need to apply it again.

    I have a crown ski and there is gouge at the edge in the crown area. The gouge is small but reached the material under the base. Can this be fixed and if not, how bad is it if left un-repared? I am afraid that if P-Tex is applied on this crown area, it will be hard to smooth it due to the complex shapes around it

    I love your video Saul. You explain so thoroughly, clear and concise and don't rush through with lots of distracting music etc. You are a breath of fresh air and truly helpful! That said. I guess due to our recent GREAT SNOW COVER here in New England, and maybe less product due to covid, I can't find liquid ski wax available in stores of Amazon soon enough to get out there today and this week. IS there an alternative to true easy on ski wax? Might Turtle wax that i found in our garage, work? Any experience with alternate "wax" products? Thanks so much! You're awesome! I'll definitely subscribe to learn more. PS: I've posted your video on FB and my friends LOVE IT!!!

      Thank you. My wife has been known to experiment with liquid floor polish. Turtle Wax, why not? Let me know how well it skis. Should be fine.

    Hi, thanks for the video! How often should I wax my waxless skis? I am recreational skier, skiing only in ski trails. Should I wax them after every ski? If the weather/snow change? I have the same wax as you are using in this video.

    • @velotiqueBetterWatchSaul
      @velotiqueBetterWatchSaul  3 года назад +5

      You should wax every time you ski. Like brushing your teeth....you might skip occasionally but not recommended.

    Great video. How do you know when it's time to remove the layers of liquid wax from the glide zones and start fresh? Is there a special scraper or process for that?

  • @peterdoyle833
    @peterdoyle833 10 лет назад

    so what about glide wax in the glide zone? or is glidewax only applied to the kick zone? why wouldn't you put glide wax in the glide zone?

    • @GLPeden
      @GLPeden 9 лет назад +5

      I think he was saying to make sure you also put it in the grip zone:)

    If I understand clearly, I would apply my liquid wax, "only" to the fishscale area of my cross country skis? Thanks for the video!

    • @velotiqueBetterWatchSaul
      @velotiqueBetterWatchSaul  6 лет назад +6

      You can use this on the entire base...tip to tail.

    Great video, I was wondering. I am in a -20~30C climate most of winter. can I use regular liquid glide wax or should I get something designed for super cold temps?

    • @velotiqueBetterWatchSaul
      @velotiqueBetterWatchSaul  3 года назад +2

      I have not come across anything specific to very cold temperatures. Remember this is a convenience product not a high performance racing solution.

    hi, I have a pair of atomic motion 52 skis with fishcale grips. should I wax them? with what?

    • @velotiqueBetterWatchSaul
      @velotiqueBetterWatchSaul  6 лет назад

      Yes. Any liquid wipe glide wax, as in the video.

    • @howsyourdad1
      @howsyourdad1 6 лет назад

      great thanks, so not with an iron and some spare snowboard wax? on the tips and tails?

    • @velotiqueBetterWatchSaul
      @velotiqueBetterWatchSaul  6 лет назад +2

      You can hot wax the tips and tails if you like, for maximum durability. Liquid wipe-on wax goes on the fishscales. You can use it in place of hot wax for convenience on the tips and tails but it needs more frequent reapplication.

    Should we do this on skin skis as well?

    • @velotiqueBetterWatchSaul
      @velotiqueBetterWatchSaul  3 года назад +2

      Yes on the glide zones. The actual skins should be cleaned with special skin-cleaner and treated with Special Conditioner.

  • @leonmilner9994

    Should be called low wax instead of waxless.

    I heard no evidence to back up his claims.

    • @SaneAsylum
      @SaneAsylum 5 лет назад +1

      Also not sure how this liquid glide wax is going to prolong the fish scale structure of the grip section. Wishful thinking. Sure if you had an oil pump and galleries constantly reapplying it then it might be analogous to internal combustion oiling, but one application? Nope!
      The way I figure it the base has certain glide properties just like the wax that is good for certain conditions (sled dog mushers use different plastic bases on their skis depending on conditions). So wax can help your glide or hurt it. Some of the time it is best left alone and other times snow will stick to the bases without wax and make travel difficult (as most of us have experienced).

      @Warren Justice Are you kidding? What would that evidence look like? This channel is generally free of advertising and essentially provides a public service from an experienced technician and subject matter expert. If you disagree, just go somewhere else without being a Karen.
