Classic. Challenging childhoods for both of us but not what we would call abusive. Strict. Required behavior. Very much old school. Son of a military officer. Daughter of military officer. What are the odds? Both of us had to control our emotions as children - and we've carried this behavior with us throughout our adult lives. Both still struggling with feeling good enough. As far as I can tell third parties have been a lifelong distraction for him - nothing expected, nothing required - and nothing given. Whereas, I become hyper-focused on goals. He loves the idea of being in love, and I simply love, no matter what happens. I get on with it. "Picking up a book" is good advice for me since I have a manuscript to finish before next year's publishing deadline. Not wasting my time mooning over something completely out of my control.
