  • Come explore the city of Rochester Minnesota as I talk about some of the places I frequent, and some of the work that needs to be done in terms of accessibility in the Med City. We’ll take a look at my walking route to Mayo Field, as well as at some of the intersections in town, the skyways, and the subways. If there’s anything else you want to see or have questions about, don’t hesitate to comment below! I appreciate you checking out my video! Thank you!

I think you should make more videos like this, of places you go and new places. I think having someone with your perspective on how people with limited or no vision navigate and learn new spaces would be very helpful to how spaces are designed.

That sounds like a great idea and I’m definitely interested in making more videos of this caliber and outline but with different concepts, I will definitely look into it and see what I can come up with, thank you for the suggestion and I appreciate your support!

Amazing video! Your perspective is very important to, not only people with visual problems, but the people I work with who have dementia and get confused in many public places because of their design. I hope you can find a way to share this with the government entities that will look at how to improve the spaces.

I have actually met with a couple of people from the city of Rochester and we talked about some ways to possibly move forward with a relationship in which I may be able to lend accessibility help to the city which would be fantastic. Whether that pans out or not, I do plan on making other videos covering similar topics. Thank you so much for your support!

Wow! What a great video, Chris! I found it very uncomfortable to watch because we should be able to do much better at making public spaces accessible. You have so many great, constructive ideas, and you are not asking for it to be "fixed" over night. I hope the City find a role for you in making our city better. A funny think I have noticed is that when you make it better for people with different abilities, you make it better for everyone.
Those subways are really creepy when they are empty, like on Sundays. Seems like there should be some scattered video monitoring to ensure no one gets lost and freaks out down there, with an audio contact point/intercom wherever there is a video monitor in place. Just sayin'....! I would be willing to pay a little more sales tax to support such accessibility improvements / enhancements to our city.

Throughout my life I’ve noticed the same thing in regards to accessibility, when you make it accessible for one specific group of people or any specific group of people, everybody wins. Thank you much for the kind words and support, I really do appreciate it.

    Great Video!!
I used to work downtown Rochester and had to know my way around, it's hard learning it. Having limited or no sight would make it even harder.
I look forward to talking to you at the new Honkers game I go to.

Learning any new city is a challenge, and Rochester definitely falls under that category sometimes, but it’s a great place and there are good things about it too, here’s to hoping I can continue to learn and make things better in whatever way I can.

Dude, I hope you give these videos you make to the mayor's office. She talked a lot about making the city more including. I'm in an oversized wheelchair. I haven't moved their yet but plan to spring to fall of 2023.
Seriously, please send your videos to the city council as well as the mayor herself. I watched another video from another guy and I could hear or understand him most of the time but he came upon multiple doors that the auto buttons didn't work on. I would hat to break the glass trying to open the doors because the electric doors don't work. Who do we report those kind of things to?
You are a voice not just for the blind but multitudes of us that are challenged in one or more ways. Of course I thought, no problem I can get to mayo from my apartment in weather too cold & sloppy & too humid for bad breathing. I got an anxiety attack just watching these videos. Thank you, please continue your work. You can make a big difference & may have already. 💞🙏

I am really happy to hear that this was helpful for you, it’s unfortunate that it Hass to be, I wish Rochester were in a more accessible place all things considered, but hopefully progress can be made. I have been involved with another project with the city and I’m hoping that said involvement will open up more doors for me down the road to possibly be part of helping things to become more accessible in the med city. my biggest frustration is that I don’t want to have to do this all the time, I want to teach and play baseball and enjoy life, but the fact that these things have been helpful and that the reception has been so positive helps to keep me thinking about doing what I can, thank you for your kind words and I will definitely try to pass my resources and perspective on anywhere and everywhere that I am able.

Really, you should be on the planning committee for Rochester Mn or the city council or both.

I’m not a hugely political person, but I actually was asked to be a part of a project giving some artistic and accessibility feedback for a rapid transit project coming to Rochester, I will probably make a video about that process at some point, but I’m hoping that this opens the door for potential involvement with the city in other ways as well. I appreciate the kind words :-)

They definitely need larger lettered signage for destinations plus a more detailed skyway map available. I'm moving there from a small town counting on the skyway & subway to get around in my xL wheelchair. If I get lost I'll have a freaking panic attack for sure. Another thing they need to post is who to contact if the button or the connected doors aren't working. Thank you again.
Actually, the blind overatter should be pointing to those who do not see these challenges around them, especially cities, counties and states...in effect they are the blind ones.

Actually one of my biggest handicaps is my short term memory damage. I'll try to remember the name. If we subscribe it automatically goes on our list. 💞🙏
