I love watching marching bands from black colleges. They are the most entertaining. I hope in 16 years when it is time for my son to go to college he goes to a prestige black college. I never went and would love to see him go so he can experience something like this in person.

SU vs FAMU = Entertain vs Impress I was in attendance to be entertained and I confidently speak for the majority on that. Therein lies why SU is always a fan and crowd favorite. Not just for the musicians/instrumentalist in attendance, but for everyone.
All I can say the band coming behind the jukebox will have a hard time drilling the football field , there's no band that can compare to drilling a football field like the HUMANJUKEBOX, the band coming behind SU will need a GOD saving miracle !!

Jim Jones and you can't predict what FAMU and BCU gonna do let me tell you. The whole band is going to make a square around the football field and play songs while dancing in one spot and the announcers gonna do more talking then the band playing. Then call it a halftime show. Boring as HELL

Modern. Marching Bands do patterns in motions,and that's Suns style if you don't like you go to the concession or something. We aren't going to change. I am a Band Director I can set there and enjoy your Band performance and any other good Band.your band appreciation need expanding.
Famu and su are both great bands. I think famu has the over all better sound and they're arrangements are different and over all style is different than su and that's the beauty of it all. However I prefer su style more meaning the arrangements style of marching and song choice. Also the dolls are dope. They ate that routine up.

I don't have a problem with a band being big. You have more options when you have more people. I really think some bands could really put on a show with the numbers of a band like FAMU, BCC, Ohio, or Texas A&M. Pageantry and gimmicks are cool, but you can't go over the top with them. They can't be your whole show. You need to come out there and drill and show that you are a marching band. More bands I agree do need to focus on entertaining and crowd appeal though.

Nice solid show from Southern..one of my favorite SWAC bands, but I gotta go with FAMU. Their show was hot from top to bottom and the crowd came alive when they stepped on the field. They left out the dance routine where SU was booed for a minute for mimicing FAMU. But still a good show, Southern always represent...when it comes to halftime, you have to bring your A game against the 100,...not being biased because I dont go to either school...I just call it as I see it.

We are in the era of big boring bands. I remember a time when most bands, except FAMU, marched 128 to 160, were tight as hell and exciting. Now it's all about how big you are. Bands need to get back to finding the true excitement of HBCU halftimes. Most good HBCU bands will produce one damn good exciting show within one season and the rest of there shows are ok, good, or alright at best. Bring back the gimmicks, pageantry, and flare!

Still watching in 2024 👀 Whoever said that the dolls outfits look like diapers that may be true but they still looked cute wearing them. The routine was on point I don't care how dated it might have been. And you're right SU is predictable now as opposed to back in the 70's and 80's where they would tear the field apart. Things changed a lot after hip hop came into play and I didn't receive it well. It sure fucked up my club life that's for sure.
JSU Sonic Boom of the South has the best entrance and fans when they march in the whole stadium just lights up with cheers from both teams but when southern comes o you already know we gotta show out even though im just in high school but the boom is the truth but there is no competition i like all bands so whats the point
I would love to see a compilation, sort of "the best of". I've had the opportunity to view quite a bit of video this season, the best I've view were: Southern & Jackson State. Southern in my opinion w as the best, because it was executed well. The "SonicBoom" was not as well executed, but more interesting. FA &M needs a new one.
Of course the crowd was hot from the beginning. Another poster said ATL is like a second FAMU. The same thing happens to JSU in Memphis. Plus size alone helps FAMU and BCC. People get excited seeing all those people before they even do anything. Not saying FAMU wasn't good because it was. I'm just saying let's not read too much into a popular band performing in one of the places it's most popular.

Why is it that this particular viewing missed a key piece of the show? Even with the deleted portion it was still no contest. SU Marches, they're drills are precise. Famu just moves back and forth and dance around a lot. No contest!
It's funny that only JSU or SU can't get credit for just doing a good show. It's either as good as your best shows or it's a bad show. It was that same bull last week for JSU in Memphis. It might not have been on of SU's best shows, but to say it was a bad or only decent show is just crazy, and you know I'm not a fan of SU at all. Yes Southern has had some legendary shows, but that was then. It doesn't take away from when the current band has a good performance. Anyway see ya next week.

As usual, the SU marching band performed extremely well. (NOTE: the camera staff should stay off the field. They are a major distraction.)
