Super video. Very confusing part of Uk. I got on a wrong train around the 10th minute and ended up in Southampton! Not easy for a Yankee to undo that! Thanks so much.
Apart from the Victoria to Orpington stopping service, the calling pattern and routing of trains in this area still reflects that the lines were operated by two different companies that didn't like each other until 1899. 😂
The line between Bromley South and Bickley was quadruped 1893-94. There was a 5th line on the north side until the 1960s, actually a 1/2 mile long siding to Bromley gas works.
Thank you for this information. Much appreciated. Couldn't find anything about that section when doing my research, only the electrification related extension. Since making the video I have seen a photo taken between Shortlands and Bromley South before electrification that seems to show that the tracks were paired by direction rather than fast and slow. Presumably this gave cross platform interchange at Bromley South which must have been more convenient than the current arrangement.
@@BoogiesTrains That is correct. Previously the slow lines were on the outside and fast in the middle. The east end footbridge was built in 1961 when the lines were swapped over (to some people's annoyance) to assist changing platforms.
@@batman51. Thank you. The naming of the current track pairs is opposite to the actual usage. I had been told that this was because the usage had been swapped at the time of the Kent Coast electrification but that doesn't fit with what I now know. Any thoughts?
@@ianbouglas Th southern pair of lines, the Fast, were part of the No.1 boat train route from Victoria to Dover via Tonbridge and were used by them between Shortlands Jn. and Bickley Jn.(No.2 route via Chatham, No.3 via Maidstone).
Ah. The boat train routes. That makes sense now. Did Victoria to Western Docks in 1966 after an overnight coach down from Scotland. Don't remember much about the journey except passing through Beckenham Junction. Funny to think that I was living in a flat overlooking that station 10 years later.
Will Southeastern keep the Class 376s and to use them on services including Orpington, Sevenoaks, Hayes, Dartford and Bexleyheath once the Class 707s have been transferred from South Western Railway once the Class 701s have entered service. Or will the Class 707 replace the Class 376 and to cascade the Class 376 to Southern to replace the Class 455 and Class 313 used on the suburban services and the East Coastway Line and West Coastway Line services. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_376 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_707

What is the part of South Eastern units with red stripe above? I'm guessing wheelchair access but I honestly don't know?
Yes it is the area with the wheelchair space and accessible toilet.
