what was your exact goal? Was the seller the representative for all of Germany? If you buy a car in Germany, it must be registered before you can drive it on German/European roads. You buy a car, you need a license plate and you have to register it. The car also needs a valid technical inspection from the "TÜV". The process, including license plates, can sometimes take days or weeks.
We went to the "used cars" showroom. We had already been there 2 or 3 times, and the last time we went, we finalized the car we wanted to buy. The car looked good, and the price was also fine for us, so we approached this person to ask about the process to start the purchase. Of course, I understand that I can't drive the car home the same day because of all the documentation needed. That's not the point here. The point is that to start the sales process, this person refused to assist us as he stated "He will just waste his time trying to talk to us in German". From that the only thing I can assume from this person is that he is ready to assit only if you are german or speak ""Muttersprache Deustch"
May be you guys find a place where they give appointment to you. Then the person will wait for you there to guide you. As you already live in Germany, you know that most people dont speak English, try to bring German friends with you if you are not confident of your language. Also the way you approach them is very important. I mean, what exactly your favourite brand, model you prefer, your budget.... etc As one of you is an Indian, you know how it works even if you move to a different state in India, you need local language or local people help to buy a car or rent a house. I accept some Germans are rude but most of them are very kind and helpful.
i dont think its racism, its they are not friendly (at highest level) does not respect customer, and it happens a lot in germany, I got similar experience from employe of DBahn. me myself also foreigner.
Take your business somewhere else. The loser is the salesperson. I have lived in US for 30 years and luckily live in a place where there is great cultural mix of different races ( California Bay Area) and experience much less of this. Life goes on. The world moves on. We all move on.
Good to hear that you don't face these problems. Yes, that is what we will do. Search for another place where they treat us with respect and hopefully can buy a car 🤞🏻
In the description you wrote " it is better to show both faces " Thus: I would like to hear the same story from the "other side". I bet it will be different. It seems you have some experience with other countries. There always will be pros and cons. Thus my question is: can you name three countries where you experienced more friendliness... (and to show both faces) also teach us what´s the drawback with them, why you did chose not to live there.
I agree with you that there will always be pros and cons for every country. However, Germany is one of the countries where I have felt a 'lack of friendliness' compared to other countries. In my country, if you are a foreigner and cannot speak Spanish, I am sure we would find another way to help you. That doesn't happen here very often. This is not to say that everything in Germany is bad. Just as I share many good things about Germany, I think it's fair to also share the things that "are not so good"
I think its like bad customer service in Germany. We had same problem when we want to buy new car 1 year before as well then little used cars from diffrent German brands and they have very cold customer service here. Everything works with appointment and secondly they don't have customer service culture. It seems like you are in need than us. Even my Taxi driver who is here from his 3 generation here and he is like native German but he can get same problem as we. Later we gave up to buy car from Germany and bought our car from other European country which was easier for us except long way to drive. But if you write to their HR or customer service in Germany then someone from their side will apologize which you may miss in other countries. I think Germany there are not such racism problem, atleast still in south if you compare to north european country, especially country side. There they can speak English there but can feel racism when they behave and talked/shout or pass comment (in public places) to you. As you may have noticed that political environments are changing in most of the european countries so you may notice those kind of reflection in future also.
This year 2024, car sale for German cars is slow, both in domestic and international markets. China is dumping cars at below production cost. In such slow market the sales person does not care about potential buyer is surprising! You can get use to getting “lower class” treatment, but Araceli, you are right, no one should treat you bad like this!
That's what I thought! Does this person not care at all about losing a customer or what? I'd rather find somewhere else where we are treated with respect and where we feel comfortable making a deal.
@@araceligonzaleza I think it is attitude of German raised people. I had experience at Munich airport about five years ago. I landed at the airport, found car rental place and showed my booking. Two girls sitting there chatting. They gave strange look. I raised my voice. Then she says- are you from America? I nodded, she said this is lunch break time. Pl come after 12:30! I had to wait for 45 mins after 8 hours flight.
It seems to me that you went their as if in market to buy potatoes. First of all in many such places , you have to go with appointsments and most of their clients are old customers who came to change their cars with new one in 3 to 5 years. Also the customers normally well informed about technical details about their purchase. Also normally the customer relationship manager does not talk so much other stuffs like in India and cold.
We were ready to start the process of buying a specific car from that place. We already knew the price, which was ok to us. The car looked great from the outside. However, since it was a used car, we needed to ask for the technical specifications or report, which I assume this salesman could help us with. However, he refused to assist us because he assumed we didn't speak German and that "he does not want to waste his time with us"
Ya..but if it was the case...the seller could Just explained that..." sorry, but we need to make an appointment, shall i do it now?!There you can ask all the questions"...that is how well educated countries operate.

Thank you for the tips! We will try to bring a German friend next time!

From the comments section I read that this happens to native Germans as well. Maybe it's something cultural 👎🏻

😮😮😮 it is exactly as you have described 🥲 Poos customer service ☹️

Give the car dealership bad rating on google and move on.. buy your car somewhere else.
Yes there are issues with foreigners trying to deal with native Germans. Not very friendly vibes.
As a native German, the same thing happened to me once. The guys were so rude, I just left and bought the car somewhere else.
I will do the same! Just check more options and buy a car somewhere else...

Exactly, in that case he could just explained to us that an appointment is needed. This person did not care at all about selling a car 🙃
