once migrated how can you then delete the emails from Outlook? If I remove the IMAP the emails will also be deleted from Gmail. How do I save them to Gmail and remove from Outlook using this method?
let me ponder, normally if you remove the IMAP will remove from outlook but not gmail as gmail is still hosting the emails unless you have it set to sync and sync and deleted option enabled and then what you delete in outlook will delete in gmail. So i suggest and check this option to disable - File-> Account Settings-> Account Settings… Double click on on your Gmail account to open its settings dialog. Press on the button More Settings… Select the Advanced tab. Turn this option off : Purge items when switching folders while online Press OK to apply the changes. Press Next to verify your changed account settings. Close the test dialog, press Finish and then Close to return back to the main Outlook window.
But then again you have to check your gmail settings maybe you have forwarding emailed and then you would have to follow this process - In previous versions of Outlook, you cannot set a Deleted Items folder for an IMAP account as deleting messages from an IMAP account actually works a bit different from other account types. In Gmail on the web, open your Settings dialog and select Forwarding and POP/IMAP or use this link may work - mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?shva=1#settings/fwdandpop that will take you to the settings of gmail In the IMAP Access section, select the following options: When I mark a message in IMAP as deleted: Auto-Expunge off - Wait for the client to update the server. When a message is marked as deleted and expunged from the last visible IMAP folder: Move the message to the Trash At the bottom press the button Save Changes Hope this helps like to know what happen
