Playing out in the streets till the street lights turned on and would walk to the dairy for $50c hot chips, didn't have a swimming pool so we would play with the outside hose😆 Otara Markets were always the best place to get cheap clothing and delicious food🤤 Grateful my parents bought our home where we grew up in, built our character's and molded us into the adults that we are today. Still beautiful to us and still home regardless of where we are in the world 👍🏼❤️

Islanders are lucky they have a good opportunity to get a citizenship in a country that is liveable the islands are a lot harder to earn money and create a better life then NZ that’s why they move to New Zealand for more and better opportunity’s

This is interesting. Our family moved into Otara 1979, so I grew up up there right through until mid 2000. Flat Bush Primary - Clover Park Intermediate School - TC. I had seen it all, violence, gangs, graffiti/tagging, spacies! I’m one of the lucky ones to progress to a better life
Worked at the power station in 1978 then again mid 80 to early 82 (those 6 chimneys). Often went to the East Tamaki (aka "the flying jug") for lunch. Nice toasties and the beer was cold.
Who remembers the SPACIE PARLOUR at the corner of Otara Town Centre, it was the only one back in the 80s? BMX bikes used to get stolen as the owners were too busy playing SPACIES! And back in those days there were lots of SCABBING at the entrance for coins to play SPACIES.
