As far as I've heard, the actors are given a copy of the manga that has their character in it and their asked to study the character's behavioural patterns and way of speech, should they wish to do so. It's a bit clear that almost everyone does that.
Look in andromeda881's videos; you may have to go back to page 2 or 3. Because the titles are kind of long, it may be a bit difficult, so I'll just tell you that part 1 is pretty noticable: the thumbnail is a green tree on a yellow background. If you had already found it, then sorry to bother you!
