Spanish speaker here 🙋🏻♂️. I can say for sure that learning other languages is an amazing experience. And even if you wish to that awkward experience never happened, the fact that it happened just gave you an acquaintance on South Korea, which is better than don't knowing anyone. In my case, just this year, by translating Spanish-English and vice versa, now I have an "american family" and a place to stay on vacation whenever I want to go to Texas, almost like your case (except for the awkward part, I really understand English 😏).
Then keep learning bro/sis! I'm learning Mandarin Chinese all by myself now, and it's really enjoyable. Never stop learning :D Edit: te hablo en inglés para que los demás usuarios entiendan ;)

im learning arabic rn and i kinda get you. It's so easy for you to understand someone that speaks it natively than yourself as they know all the proper grammer rules here, yet here here I am speaking with the wrong tense and wrong gender agreements... It probably doesnt help either with different dalects either. Arabic is a language that in which one dialect is like speaking a different language all together to a person that speaks a different dialect.
Keep practicing!!! Explore things that you like and enjoy to built your confidence, and listening is a huge key as well. These akward moments are priceless. Oh dear, I'm still learning a lot, even by myself. I love Japanese, I studied for some time in a course and today I am on my own. Being able to sing a few songs by heart makes me proud, but I know I still have a long way to go. English, Japanese, Italian maybe someday? See ya!!
I'm currently going to Japanese classes and I feel pretty comfortable because my teacher knows Bulgarian at a pretty good level which helps communication and teaching immensely despite Bulgarian grammar being a nightmare even for Europeans and thankfully knows English as well which helps with the few words and phrases that she can't translate and so far I can say least introduce myself like: こんばんは!わたしのなまえはディミタル・ヂムボフです。がくせいです。げんごりょうほうしもです。ブルガリアじんてす。えいごとスペインごができます。
As a bilingual I can relate. Like if I am speaking and thinking in one language for a long time and someone suddenly just approaches me and asks me in the other language I know, I can understand them fully but it takes a moment for me to reload the speaking. And for a brief moment (which feels like an eternity) I internally panic and form a toddler vocabulary sentence with stutter and then only can I fully reload my language skills (even my native tongue). This happens in such a short duration that people don't seek to notice but internally that it a long lasting feeling of hell that requires recovery after the conversation
Man you're lucky, my brain just brings up all the things I've done in the past that I regret and can easily be taken the wrong way by the internet to get me canceled... that event is so common now 😑

Cringe memories aside, I'm genuinely surprised to learn "sneakers" translates to "tennis" in Portuguese.
wonder what tennis translates into.
if you guys were curious i googled it and its just tênis
apparently we only started calling sneakers "tênis" because of the tennis shoes, kinda funny
Não sou muito bom em inglês, então desculpe
Mas sim, traduzimos "sneakers" para "tênis", entao tem que tomar cuidado com o "p" kkkkkkkk
sneakers are also called "tennis shoes" in English...
Nah, the actual translation is "sapatilhas"
