I came here after watching the prologue in english, and hearing Platina's terrible voice actress. Lucian's was also terrible, yet Platina's mother in english sounded as abusive as she could get, she was absolutely perfect, as she was here in japanese.
@@XxElCapxX It did sound like if some Japanese were given the job of english voice actors. Haven't played the game though, apart from watching the intro, so I don't know if it improved later...
Agreed with you re Mother (Laia). At least in this version, Platina sounds like a 14-year-old, and Lucian like a 15/16-year-old. Sadly the lady playing Platina in English made her sound too old, and the chap playing Lucian can't get away from doing Brock's voice.
@@KittyKatt_Luna80s I thought the English voice actors were bad, but they actually have a very long career, with Megan Hollingshead and Eric Stuart having been in countless Japanese media. It's just that the actors could not do the voice for the younger versions of their characters. I don't know if I should blame the VA or the one who hired them for that specific role. Haven't played the game yet, and just now listened to the following English voiced cutscenes. While I don't see the English voice acting as bad (barring the prologue), I do have a certain bias towards Japanese.
My only pitfall with Lucian's voice in the Japanese opening is the volume in the scene in Platina's bedroom. Platina is woken by Lucian, and she admonishes him: "Lucian? Do you know what time it is?" Lucian quite rightly tells her to be quieter. Then the VA YELLS the next line saying that Platina is due to be given to the Black-Clothed Men in the morning. To give Eric (Lucian's English-speaking VA) his due, he keeps his voice to a whisper.
As if this prologue didn't break my heart hard enough in english. The original voice acting added a whole new layer of sadness... TT3TT

English was great, not as the original but pretty good...
