As a Thai who also experience something like this while trying to rebuild a Civic EG4D, this is somehow common here in Thailand. My shop promise me 2 weeks of work which turns out to be 6 months of slacking and bullshit work. Even though I went to the shop almost everyday they won't do any work on my car but rather work on the car which they don't get any income from because they said the work on my car is boring even though I paid in full and go to the shop everyday. My advice is don't get to close to the shop or else they will feel like they are your friend and they don't have to do your work and you could wait. Finally when I got my car it was full of scratch and shit on it and also some parts were missing or damage. I can't say shit because if I did it would be like I would be the bad guy and lik chad said...defamatory laws in Thailand sucks. So now I'm selling my car because I can't afford the repair of my car and been burnout from it.
Sorry for the long comment, just wanna let out some steam.

That sucks man, have you considered maybe trying to work on the car yourself? I know people like to say "i'm no mechanic" but with all of the videos and information
on the internet you may just suprise yourself about what you can do to your car. It's not magic about how these things work, it is just nuts and bolts.

Reply to “take it to another shop” comments:
There are many shops that build the small racing boats in Thailand but only a few that are experienced with the big HP ones and they are all close friends. Me pulling the boat out of this shop just to take it to one of their friends shops, would not have turned out good. They are always going to side with their friend, not me.
Automotive shops won’t take this project and even if they did they wouldn’t store it for me, have the capability to transport it to canals, or be able to drive it in races for me.
I didn’t make this video asking for help. I would rather stab myself in the face with a fork than continue to talk about this boat. I’m done and moving on. This was not me asking for help or suggestions, it’s simply a story of what happened and what will happen in regards to the 250k subscriber giveaway. End of story.

I just have one question burning in my mind; since this is such a business/entrepreneurial value project, what was the reason you haven't been staking out at the shop for a few days/a week or something, to sort of 'force them' by your presence... I mean so much time passes means there must have been a window where that would be possible, or your friend? I'm puzzled. Would appreciate any form of explanation, I've been in the same 'boat' in fact. Just a much more boring one. Sorry you had to go through this man!

I understand your frustration with that project. About 10 years ago, I had a 350Z convertible, a 2004. I had it in a shop in Santee, California Speed Force Racing. The car had a built motor, twin turbo, I had spent 16k on that build, but as turbo builds go it had blown a head gasket.
I had it towed to SFR to do a complete rebuild, new Haltech EMS, I paid up front for all costs and was told 30 days… 3 years later I had it towed home and sold it for parts… so I understand your anger…

@ Frank Lentz, we an only imagine the frustration and anguish you went through with that 350z build you had. But lesson learnt, try not to stew on it and never pay anyone the whole amount upfront, because when they get the money, there goes the motivation to finish it to an agreed deadline and to a certain quality of work. I hope you have found something else to channel your energy into.

For those that have trouble understanding the "saving face" phenomenon, here's a very simple example of it: I used to employ a team of guys from a certain country and I'd continually say to them "if you break a drill bit or anything else, just let me know so I can pick up a replacement next time I'm out, no problem". Every single time there'd be a drill bit missing and I'd need that exact size and would have to make a special trip out to buy the drill bit (= lost time). In the afternoon I'd empty the waste bin and the broken drill bit was always there. They'd rather cause a crisis that can't be blamed on any individual than to lose face by admitting they broke a drill bit. I would always tell them not to worrry about the cost of the breakage as that was much cheaper than making a special trip to buy one, but, it made no difference.

Hey Chad, there’s absolutely nothing like beating a dead horse, and I’ll apologize in advance, but coming from a guy who spends too much time working alone, with all the time in the world to pull things apart piece by piece, it sounds to me, like everything that you had put into that boat was nothing but the best, Top notch, No expense soared to make sure you built the absolute BEST boat money could buy!?! Not only that, but used common sense in that having the Rotary Guru build a killer motor with comparable HP to what guys are pushing in their TDI builds, only lighter, as well as wanting the BEST Hull builders do what they do, but there is something on the tail end of this, that just doesn’t fit….. The Assemblers knew ALL too well how fired up you were to hear that motor run AND how CLEARLY motivated you were as to have a Thai friend call every week to check on progress, so, what doesn’t sit well with me is, it seems “odd” to me, that the ONE time you’re outta the country, is just “coincidentally” the EXACT moment when the entire build is suddenly wired, plumbed, tuned, built and ready for testing right then and there?! Again, the ONE time they know you’re back in the states?!?
And as the “Black Cloud” would have it, after the BEST ROTARY Engine Builder in the ENTIRE country, ALL of Thailand builds a motor that “Blows up” after 10 minutes?!
I’ll be blunt, and if you like, delete the comment, but I had to rattle this off to you, or it’d drive ME insane as well.. In the US Brother, that isn’t how we Roll!?!
Sounds to me, in fact, I’d damn near bet what you’ve got into that build, that by pushing this build down the road, and selling it, you’re literally doing 100% EXACTLY what the “Builders” want you to do…. See, they build these things for a living, in the same respect, they also KNOW these boats inside and out, unlike ANY other boat racer in the whole of Thailand, So, check this out Chad… By dragging their feet, giving you every BS excuse they could come up with, delay after delay, after setback, after BS excuse, Now, it’s a year later…. Now it’s 2 years later, and in that 2 years, is the SAME 2 years that a well-built, high HP, Lightweight Twin Turbo Rotary ROCKET built by THE most well-known rotary builder, yea man, I guarantee that these “Assemblers” were either doing everything they could to keep the competition off the rivers so the spotlight stays on ONLY them, or, they’re just plain jealous that a good guy, who’s having a blast, that built an amazing YT Channel that does well, in fact does well enough to build things like this, and able to afford to have a decent life for yourself, that YOU made for yourself, all the while they sweat their itty-bitty bean bags off, busting their asses doing the only thing they can, and probably aren’t getting rich doing it, but are stuck doing all they know, and simply, they let sheer jealousy get the best of em, and I have to say Chad, if they immediately wanted your boat gone, they have been WAITING for 2 years now, for you to get mad enough, or waiting for you to do something, ANYTHING so they could turn the tables back on you, to get your you finished boat GONE, because THAT was all the excuse they needed….. and from jealousy alone, is why you had such a shitty time dealing with these sad little ass-clowns who couldn’t deal with a little competition from a good guy straight from ‘MERICA!!
If I could afford it, I’d be out there in a heartbeat to do whatever it took just to get that thing DONE, only to stuff it down their throats, and, I’d finish the build 100% free, just to prove a point!
I’ve been a builder/fabricator my entire life, built boats, trucks, bikes, snowmobiles, half big-wheel, half snowblower-mobile, I’ve built 4-wheelers with GSXR motors on em, and once a child’s 4-wheeler with a 400cc 4cyl 6sp Honda motor, for THE ICE, and did 120+ first time out in a 1/4 mile!! Anyway, I’d be there for ya Chad, just to show these guys how we do, and get it DONE!!
Just my 2-cents….. but seems pretty plausible to me…. It all just kinda fits if you look at it in that crooked ass light…
I wish the best for ya buddy! It’s be great to see you stomp a mud hole in someone’s ass before you sent er down the road, but if get it….. a loss of the quality of life you’ve already tolerated isn’t even remotely worth that… good
Luck to ya brother, you deserve it!!

He shouldn’t have trusted that shop for this long. He should’ve pulled it from the shop and find a different shop. There’s no way that shop is the only shop in all of Thailand that can finish the boat. Also he should’ve gone with another motor. I’m pretty sure the shop was just scared of using a rotary. Idk it’s annoying that he’s not owning up to his part in all of this all while acting innocent. Lmao.

Electronics you have, it was already running. To a car mechanic it is the same thing, fuel ignition power out to a drive shaft. The car body just happens to look like a boat. I built Street Rods in my garage that was only a frame and an engine out of a Camaro. The engine harness and brain goes with the engine no matter what you put it in. 33 Ford or 54 Shoebox Chev, it makes no difference to the engine. Ask you car buddies what they think. With over 1900 comments and counting I don't expect you'll see this, but man does this illustrate Thailand on ALL levels. I've been coming here since 1986, many times and have lived here now for over 3 years (spent all of "the situation" here) haven't budged. I've done it all, including building a house I managed the building of (construction background, USA) out in Isan.
What you relay in this story, I can say, based on my experience, isn't doubtful by one word. You're probably being too kind.
I often say, it's not a question of whether or not Thais are lying to you.
    They're lying.
It's just how it is. Know the terrain.
Not even a motorsports enthusiast and I enjoy your videos. Started watching back when you were doing the tour of Thailand by motorbike.
One last thing; shouted high to you once a few months back, early Jan, you were walking and recording along Jomtien, I'm in a baht bus and I hear that unmistakable narration. Thanks for the shout back. Lived in Phuket at the time, now have moved back to Jomtien. Perhaps I'll run into you again one of these days.

One other thing to add. I had not yet seen the part of the FB post and result. 100% typical. This is how Thais lie to get out of anything, embarrassment, whatever. They create a problem with you, apologize, do it again, apologize, do it again, etc. They keep doing it until the one day you've finally had enough, and you SAY something they perceive as unkind.
Now, because you have said (or wrote, in your case) something "unkind," truth or not...MAGICAL TRANSFORMATION. You are now the bad guy, it's all your fault, they are the victim, and anything they have previously done or will do is automatically justified.
