Angelina Mango's first live preformance really sold it for me. She filled a virtually empty stage with just her presence on stage. No props, no backup dancers, no over the top visuals, just herself and a mic, yet she completely owned that stage.

Angelina's song is apparently a Cumbia, which is a Latin American dance/musical style. That must be why it sounds so unique and fun. The song says, "This is the Cumbia della Noia" (this is the boredom Cumbia).
Nice reactions Tom (as always). It looks more likely that Angelina will win Sanremo. She just had a standing ovation on the cover night singing a song from her late father (a well known singer in Italy). You will be also shocked how well she will perform La Noia at Sanremo, killing the stage by herself (with no dancers or props around).
For one glorious moment, Ricchi & Poveri were your favorite. ❤🎁❤ Still my number one. 😂 Many will laugh but I admire any woman in her 70’s not afraid to shake her bare arms. 🦇

"Governo Punk" talks about anonymous life in an Italian province and the dream of leaving it and making a change in your life. Ghali's song in Italy has sparked a lot of controversy, because in the lyrics there are references to the situation in Palestine.
3:38 You can easily find strings in studio versions as well, giving the songs went presented in Sanremo 35:36 LOL One of her success is a song about Ireland: I Cieli D'Irlanda (Irish Skies) by Fiorella Mannoia
Been watching for a few years now and ive literally only just realised you’re saying wanna know my secret bang before every song because I feel like you’ve said it slower this video? All the time I’ve been watching i assumed you were speaking Chinese or something 😭😂🤯
Angelina Mango is so great! As others have pointed out, her live performance really sold this. She was giving ATTITUDE. Also, I love how culturally rich the song is. I’m not sure where you heard circus sounds haha, but this type of sound is very common in the Mediterranean (specifically Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal).
@@ESCTom Yes, that as well, it’s even referenced in the lyrics. I just meant that this type of sound is generally common in certain European countries as well. When I think of Spain/ Italy and sort of ethnic pop, this is what comes to mind.
Actually Angelina comes from a small country in southern Italy, so the song and the music video talk about the boredom of life in small countries and the desire to turn boredom and heritage into a party, And the lyric text is also autobiographical because she has a past of depression due to the death of her father (a singer very famous in Italy) when she was a child
If you want to appreciate the intensity of Angelina’s voice I advise you to listen (and maybe react in a video) to her performance in the ‘cover night’ of Sanremo, where she sang one of her father’s last songs (he died on stage six years ago).... A unique emotion!
Because Italians understand what the San Remo ballads are about they also value these more than us from abroad. Hence stylistic different songs such as Angelina's and Mahmood make us extra happy while songs by Mr. Rain and Irama make us feel like we heard them before even though they hit harder lyrically. Meanwhile, Geolier might steal the win from any of the favourites which I wouldn't dislike. It might give us something fresh to the Eurovision stage: a local Italian dialect. For context: in Italy there is a division between North and South. The South considers itself the underdog and the North considers itself superior, at least, on average. It is quite an accomplishment for a 'southern song' to win a competition held in 'the North' in a time where a political coalition that historically mostly benefitted the North, currently governs the country. You could argue that winning a music competition through your background rather than the song is a bit silly, but it is not to all those who vote for Geolier or those who want a woman to win San Remo
If you like Angelina Mango you should watch her performance of her father's song 'il rondine' she was breathtaking such an emotional performance. I really hope she wins.
I know there is literally a 0% chance of it happening but I really want Ricchi e Poveri to win and go to Eurovision. That song is simply such a feel good piece and it does represent Italy in a very accurate way despite maybe not being very contemporary. Their live performance is great too - that woman has so much energy despite her age!
For me Mr Rain just captivated me with that performance. Wasn’t the biggest fan of his entry last year but this one was just captivating. The message is heartbreaking (it is about a father losing his two children, represented by the swings and one being empty that jumped out to me straightaway) and the song is absolutely lovely even though it doesn’t have a discernable hook which for a ballad isn’t the worst thing in the world. It genuinely made me cry first listen. It is my winner of this years Sanremo. I also really like Rose Villain, Angelina Mango, Fragili (even though it isn’t my typical vibe), Richhi i Poveri, Diodato and Santi Francessi. In the whole selection I am also really into Il Volo’s entry which is just epic for me, Mahmood is also amazing as are The Kolors and Dargen D’Amico. Sincèrement is also really strong as well. There are also a whole lot of strong songs that aren’t among my faves. I have always loved Sanremo and this selection was great as it always it. It always elevates every year and this year is no different.
Nooo, if you watch Rose Villain's live performance you will see that the verses and everything but the chorus are DIVINE and then the chorus comes in and ruins it 😂 She is such a good live performer, her vocals and the emotion she conveys are awesome, then the chorus hits and it's so jarring it takes us out of the emotion. A pity, with a better chorus this would be in my top 1 or 2 Sanremo performances for the year.
It's a pity you could not react to the live performances. The music videos distracted you so much from the actual songs 😂😂 and they don't use their visuals on stage
I'd say LA SAD is pop punk. It's definitely not Metal or rock imo, but I'm bad with genres. I'm a metalhead and it's too poppy for me, especially considering their styling. The topic is important (about s*icide) and I might like it more with subtitles, but live it didn't grab me. My favourites are Mahmood and La Noia aswell!
tactically speaking, now Angelina has two obstacles: Geolier, mass voted by his fans and radio jury, and the duel with Annalisa, that might seriously hamper her chances and both could lose to less interesting songs. It's not likely but if she falls off the first positions during Saturday, she cannot access the play-off (that I think she would have good chances to win, but again there is the duel with Annalisa). In a way, I wouldn't be in Geolier's shoes these nights, because I think he's being used as a spearhead too - and that's not a good thing in the long run, even if one has the experience of riding such phenomenons... Tribalization in our societies always sucks, even in less "critical" and more soave things like music...
Annalisa is also there on top....it should be a duel between 2 ladies this year. Both should do very well at Eurovision. I suggest another listening to BNKR44's Governo Punk - I dismissed like yourself initially but then it started growing on me - it's very uplifting.
It Is so cute your constant Surprise and commenta about female participation/appearance/etc in Italy. You must know that Italy Is a chauvinist country which loves the mucho culture. Even some women are chauvinist...
The problem with Angelina Mango's song is that it is extremely demanding while she is so very young. The first evening, she smashed it, on the third evening she was clearly tired and out of breath. This might be a problem for ESC too... if she's not at the top of her game she risks losing it all. Personally I adore Ricchi e Poveri. At their age they have managed to produce a real hit, catchy, fun, full of irony. They used to be looked down upon because theirs was always "popular" music, pure entertainment with no depth... That is partly true, but it doesn't mean they are worthless. The truth of the story is that in Sanremo there will always be room for a good voice singing a classical ballad. One gets to hope that the ballad is good, but even if it isn't new or fresh, the public will applaud. Mannoia is singing about personal empowerment: the perspective is that of an older woman who has lived exactly as she wished, she had to pay for this freedom, she was called names but in the end she's proud of what she did. In the end the deciding factor will be Geolier. He has that extremely strong fanbase that will vote compactly for him no matter what. I think Annalisa should win because she's more experienced than Angelina. I love Angelina's song, don't get me wrong.
While the song isn't moving me (haha), Diodato's music video is a masterpiece. I feel like if you enjoyed it, you might also like the video for Time Machine by Autoheart. It has a similar cozy, queer vibe, that theme of being in a public, boring situation and creating an alternate reality with expressive dancing and personal connection. That one is a bit more subdued, but my favourite MV ever. And the song is better too imo 😙
I must say I forwarded the video quite a bit to see the Ricchi e poveri and Angelina Mango reactions. These two songs are positively fabulous from this selection. I hope Angelina wins, since the song is something different. However, I like Annalisa and Mahmood, too. I will not die if Geolier wins but the song is inferior and I so want a female to win...
Angelina really doesn't do it for me, but I wouldn't mind her winning like I wouldn't mind Annalisa although her song is nowhere as good as all her recent hits. My winner is still Mahmood who is topping global Spotify chart, even ahead of Geolier, but is not considered as a potential winner by anybody (bookmakers\ music experts\press): how is that even possible? Mahmood's song would totally slay Eurovision although participating for the third time in such a short span looks a bit weird. Much love for Ricchi e Poveri (the remaining two of the original four): I love their song but they unfortunately have no chance.
I wish they had polished Angelina's song more. It's a bit too messy, the different sounds don't mesh perfectly, it's not a cohesive enough song, a bit Frankenstein-y. I think she is winning, but I don't think she deserves it. From the favourites, Mahmood and Annalisa have better songs. Also, her vocals in the end are quite bad and grating on the ears. Don't get me wrong, it's in my top10, but I don't get winning Sanremo.
